      Hey bro just looking for some advice in regards to which questions/question sets that I should look to skip and come back to in QR? Like what sort of stuff should say to me: Ok I will skip this then come back after ive completed the easier questions. Cheers

    • @valuebuck4987
      @valuebuck4987 Před rokem

      @@tomn4483 Hey there! When it comes to the Quantitative Reasoning (QR) section of the UCAT, it's important to manage your time effectively. Here are a few tips to help you decide which questions to skip and come back to:
      Identify complex or time-consuming questions: If you come across a question that appears to be particularly complex or requires a lot of calculations, it may be a good idea to skip it temporarily. Focus on answering the easier, more straightforward questions first to ensure you make the most of your time.
      Prioritize familiar topics: If you encounter a question set that covers a topic or concept you are less comfortable with, you might consider leaving it for later. Instead, tackle question sets that cover topics you are more confident in. This way, you can maximize your efficiency and accuracy.
      Watch out for tricky wording: Some questions might be designed to confuse or mislead you. If you encounter a question that seems ambiguous or unclear, it may be wise to skip it initially and return to it later with a fresh perspective. This can help you avoid wasting time on challenging questions that could potentially impact your overall performance.
      Remember, the key is to manage your time effectively and answer as many questions as possible within the allocated time. Develop a strategy that works best for you, practice with sample questions to get a feel for different question types, and stay calm and focused during the exam. Best of luck with your QR preparation!

Then I used medify (initially starting with the practice questions and the section specific mocks then closer to my exam I started to do full mocks. Don’t do full mocks at the start as it will likely make you stressed if you don’t get the results you want) and in the last week MedEntry. 100% recommend medify and MedEntry the book was good but not a necessity. I have noticed that during your VR section, you're ability to skim read the passage and then retain the information is really good. do you have any tips on how to retain information after reading it. i personally feel that i cannot retain information and have to keep on re-skimming the passage to look for the answer (wasting precious time).

    • @EmilEddy
      @EmilEddy  Před 2 lety +30

      Definitely! The main thing is to set out with the intention to remember the passage that you're reading. If it takes you slightly longer to read the passage, don't worry about that, because the improvement to your accuracy is far more important. Ways to improve doing this is to look, cover and practice summarising a practice passage on a piece of paper. Outside of the UCAT, try reading as much as possible and get comfortable with holding your concentration while reading.

      Thank you! I skip the standalone questions because they have a similar amount of information associated with them compared to a set. When I'm running out of time at the end, I'm trying to answer as many questions as possible, so the best thing is to do the sets over the standalones, even if the sets might appear harder

      Hey!, for DM i found that skipping the longer sillage questions usually in the middle of the subtest allowed me to score higher as I would have more time for the easier questions like the venn diagrams and probability ones. For the 'select the strongest argument questions' I would recommend choosing the option that kind of rewords the statement given. I know this sounds stupid but the whole point of picking a strong argument is for it to address almost every concern given in the statement. Often, when I skip sillage questions, I will have 5 mins at the end to go back. For QR, skip the harder ones and this includes anything that is taking you longer than 1 minute to work out, and remember to take an educated guess for QR questions that you are skipping if you find that you dont have time at the end to go back, this way you have at least answered them all and hopefully get some right. Also, the easier questions are ALWAYS at the end, so focus on getting those right and then review your flagged, just practice and practice. AND THE MOST IMPORTANT TIP FOR QR: GET A KEYBOARD WITH THE SQUARE NUMBER PADS ON THE RIGHT, this makes calculations so much faster

    Hello just a question! In decision making if you come across a question such as.
    A group of teenagers all dislike ice-cream. then the question asks if some teenagers dislike ice cream. Would the answer be no as there is a chance that all teenagers in the world dislike ice-cream and since some doesn't include all it is incorrect? could you explain because i'm getting mixed messages thank you!

      The answer would still be "yes." "Some" implies at least one or more teenagers, and it does not exclude the possibility of including all of them. Therefore, even if there is a group of teenagers who all dislike ice cream, it is still true that some teenagers dislike it.

      If the question asks whether "some" teenagers dislike ice cream, the answer would still be "yes" even if there is a group of teenagers who all dislike ice cream. The term "some" refers to an unspecified or unknown quantity, indicating that at least one teenager dislikes ice cream. In this case, the group of teenagers who dislike ice cream would fall under the category of "some," as it is not specified whether there are more teenagers who dislike ice cream or not.
      It's important to note that "some" does not imply a specific number or proportion, nor does it exclude the possibility of "all." So, even if all the teenagers in the world dislike ice cream, the statement that "some teenagers dislike ice cream" would still be true because it encompasses the group of teenagers who do not like it.
      In summary, "some" means at least one or more, and it does not exclude the possibility of including all members of a group. Therefore, the answer to the question would be "yes," some teenagers do dislike ice cream, regardless of whether there is a group of teenagers who all dislike it.

    In VR, how do you maintain such a hugh rate of retention? Any tricks for retaining content so you don’t need to reread

      I usually read a lot in my spare time, which helps. Practicing reading and recalling from passages can be really helpful (e.g read a passage and blurt out as much as you can remember onto a page). Also practice getting into the flow state when reading

    37:08 You accidently put the wrong answer for the third question even after saying the correct answer out loud, RIP.

    58:14 How do you divide/multiply without pressing the calculator, is there a keyboard shortcut for it? I have to manually press those buttons on the calculator and it wastes so much time. It's not on the number pad for my keyboard.

      Your number pad should have / (divide) and * (multiply)

    Hey Emil, thank you so much for the helpful video!! Just in regards to VR, is your strategy for those comprehension questions (so not T/F/C) that you try to retain the answer options then simultaneously scan for all 4 when reading the passage? (As currently I focus on one because I find it hard to retain all that info and then I go through the passage 4 times to scan for all 4 which is very inefficient). So instead of scanning for keywords, you actually try to understand the passage or ?

    • @EmilEddy
      @EmilEddy  Před 2 lety +2

      Hi Grace! Yes, I try to read all 4 answer options and read through the passage trying to understand it. This works better as you don't need to read the passage multiple times, and you can easily recall where information is in future questions. I try to retain as much info from the passage as I can, and go back and forth between the passage and the questions
