@@viviangall1786Very true. Just recently Fidelity said they have been accumulating bitcoin since 2014, then again, it was announced that the SEC will likely heed to calls for BTC approval come 2023. This shows that whales and smart funds are buying bitcoin quietly, but they won't let the public know. It's such a pity that people are worried about btc not reaching a particular price at a given period instead of securing their place in the future with btc.

This session reminded me of my Libertarian conference attending days. Back in 2017 when I talked to people at those events they smiled politely and asked me to be more realistic. They kept harping the "Blockchain not Bitcoin" mantra. I guess they were too addicted to donor money.

Yes.
Hate to be sceptical. Even though I'd love to see Bitcoin empower the millions of people who are suffering from financial exclusion, I don't see what is stopping the already corrupt entities from scooping up Bitcoin by the dozens. Doesn't this just exacerbate the existing inequality? Sure, for "early adopters" - especially in those regions - it could prove a life-changing means, but I can't help feeling its window of opportunity is very small and for those to whom it matters the most, it might prove too small...
I sincerely hope time will tell I'm wrong though!

Just because someone has more bitcoin than you they do not have more influence over the rules.
Bitcoin’s rules are fixed for our lifetime (or more) and no one person wields more power than another.
Price goes up,
Freedom goes up!
Price appreciation is not what the people in these countries are benefitting from. Yes, the non-inflationary aspect is definitely beneficial when compared to a nation with a fiscal policy that has rampant inflation. In that sense for everyone in any country, even the US or another first world country, it preserves wealth and that is good. However, in these nations money is used to control people by restricting access to goods and services through freezing bank accounts, devaluing the currency or otherwise taking away a persons ability to interact with any operation that would allow them to exit the authoritarian government. This is because it takes resources, food, shelter etc. in order to escape or fight a regime. If someone can access a store of value that can not be controlled or restricted and can be used to fund their actions then they can effectively resist the control. That is how bitcoin helps in these situations. It doesn't matter what bitcoins value is or who else holds bitcoin. As long as no one can stop the freedom fighters and activists from holding bitcoin than they can not stop them from having a means to purchase the resources necessary to escape or resist being oppressed. That is the power of decentralisation and why bitcoin is so effective in providing aid to people in these situations.

The big problem with all of this is that any monetary "proxy" like Bitcoin, Gold, Silver, Artwork, NFT... is only as good as the currency that it's traded in. For people in countries outside the "privileged few" (this guilt shaming is getting pretty old, without such privileged few supporting proxies, you'd have nothing) you are buying a proxy of U.S. or other countries' currency that not only has its own ups and downs, but now you add the volatility of Bitcoin on top of the base currency volatility, just like buying stocks in U.S. dollars. You are 100% subject to what a market does. The difference is that proxies like gold and silver are actually worth something if everything else went away. Not so with Bitcoin. If everything else collapses, you have nothing whatsoever. What Buffet and others object to is treating Bitcoin as if it exists completely on it's own. This is false.
I'm no expert in bitcoin i have read how it works and from my understanding which is bit out of topic from your point is doesn't bitcoin required a miner fee (tip they call it). It might be less for countries like America to pay some tip to the miner but isn't it too much for the countries with lower currencies value? Just curious to know how it might solve this?
