Believe MORE than you believed before ! :-D That specific live rendition is an absolute mankind's treasure ! After tens and tens of this video viewing, James' phlegm and humor still make me laugh out loud.
I never thought i would be able to learn this. But you made it so simple and easy. Me and a friend who are both sophmores in highschool started a ukulele club and are teaching people how to play ululele. I cannot wait to show these tutorials to the class and extend out ukulele skills. Thank you for all you do man.
Lo and BEHOLD, Apollo, the God of music, has made known the sweet seductive savory secrets of stringed songs! How blessed we truly are!! P.S. You are a phenomenal musician and I recall that your Billie Jean song was what really inspired me to take ukulele to the next level. I even have your Duet for one book...that I haven't been able to accomplish...😅. Thank you for helping me on my journey of the ukulele.
Crux, I found Duets for One to be very challenging until I started doing The Ukulele Way. The learning progressions give you the tools to take on Duets for One-armed and ready to go. They are still challenging but now I know how to approach the pieces and have more experience playing in the solo framework. If you haven't checked out The Ukulele Way over at Uketropolis yet I highly recommend it. www.uketropolis.com
Yes it does hurts but it’s so much fun! Again, I was hitting bridge for bass, index for snare, middle for chord but now I got it! It became much more simple and certain. Thank you James! Uke on!
James, thank you so much for making this series. Ive been hoping for this since the first time I saw you play this years ago. You are a great teacher that expands the possibilities.
The fact that your videos are in such high quality, makes me wanna learn more and more and more (from you). It makes it easy and fun to watch!!!!! the audio is incredibly good, by the way.
Thank you with all my heart and finally a teacher at a level who shares his talent with others. When I listen to you ... I fly and time slows down ... People are often petty and jealous, they don't show their secrets, you share warmth and positive energy with the whole world. Did you get it in this last year? I started practicing yesterday, everything it's okay outside of playing the bassline while strumming, Which the hardest thing, cause you need to let the bassline sound while stopping the three others string
On the video oh his concert it seems he doesn't move his hand as much as in the tutorial for the bass, so I wonder if he uses a low G string, I guess that might help with playing all the parts at the same time
This is absolutely fantastic. Watched your Video playing in front of the crowd an fell in love with you (and your Uke) instantly! Bless you, and thanks for making us all a littel happier!
Thanks heaps James for this amazing step by step tutorial! Still needs a lot of practice and dedication but at least now it’s possible to play it! Cheers!
This really inspire me again, I tried to learn guitar before but my hands and fingers could not keep up. Then I realized how cool Ukeleles are, I’ll see how it goes and be patient. Also noticed that calmness is key to play, just enjoy it and don’t strain yourself
How can anyone dislike this video? Bunch of AH's. Boy, i was waiting for this tutorial for a long long time and finally today it just showed up. Thanks man, thanks for playing such good music and creating this tutorial. Love from India.
I’ve saved this video for over a year and thought I was finally ready for it. It’s somehow a lot harder than it seems when you teach it. It feels like a tongue twister. But I’m gonna keep practicing it, breaking it into small pieces. I did find that it sounds fine and feels easier for my brain to just use the 567 finger position of the Gm throughout and only add the pinkie finger to the 7th & then 8th fret on the A string to make the Am7 & Gm7. But maybe I’ll work up to doing it the proper way... And you are an excellent teacher. I think I’m gonna sign up for UkuleleX...
Far off my skill/capabilities (at the moment) but nice/calm explaination and awesome to watch. But I think you lied when you spoke about "feeling like giving away a stage secret" - the real secret is how you disassemble a riff into these groups (drums, baseline, chords) and arrange them in a way that makes them come together in a playable way on the uke....
can you make a 3rd part please? I've been practicing for the 2nd part for a long time now, but I can't figure out how to do the bassline, chords and strumming .... even though I put the video on the slowest ... I don't find the trick. please make a 3rd part. it's such a cool song!
Okay say this next part out loud, and try to feel the rhythm. Strum pick pick strum pick pick pick pick strum pick pick strum pick pick pick pick. Do you feel the rhythm? Now change the strums for the chords you learned, and practice in your head again. Gminor, Aminor7, Gminor7, Aminor7 again. Just play those chords and pick an open string, doesn't matter which yet. If you got that you can slow if down, and try the notes. This is the tab: (Gm)--2--5--(Am7)--5--2--0--2--(Gm7)--2--5--(Am7)--5--2--0--2--Repeat Master this and you got the song basically ;)
Thank you. Very informative. I'm just starting out learning percussion. All I need now is to get up a list of songs I want to do percussion to so I can vary my practice time. I'll keep checking out your other you tubes.
Hello James, thank you for your amazing lesson, I have a quick question if that's ok : do you need an plug in uke to do beatbox I m guessing it's a yes ? I have an acoustic. Merci 🎉 Lina
Thank you so much for being such an inspiration man! I have always dreamed of being able to play at such a level as yourself, and now I have a fighting chance. I'm definitely registering for those UkuleleX tutorials ASAP! Keep doing what you're doing man, it's people like you who keep me intrigued with "the dark side of the ukulele," it really is an extreme sport haha. Can't wait for what's next! Also, what kind of ukulele is that? I have a pretty average ukulele, but I like the crisp sound of yours. Maybe it's the uke, or the strings but all I know is that I need it. (I definitely have ukulele acquisition syndrome)
Thanks for such a great lessons..it is such an eye opening but can you please help me with the chords that part bridge "people always told me be careful" because I need to sing alone and play thank you so much stay blessed
At this point, I think we have all heard you do Billie Jean so many times that while we absolutely love it - literally every time... we are DYING for you to do something new. By new, I mean... I'd give the world to see you do "Devil Went Down To Georgia" by Charlie Daniels!! If anyone can do it all on one ukulele without accompanying instruments, it's you!! AND, you know we're going to want a tutorial too so just go ahead and do that as well. LOL! I'm paying for your online lessons right now and probably will be for a while since my hope and dream is to get the teacher certification as well so consider this my paid subscription request. LOL! No joke.
You can explain it all you want James, but this is still essentially serious mystical voodoo Jedi ukulele magic.
Yeah but if you BELIEVE

Lol. I think I can handle this kind of mystical voodoo. James actually makes it look easy (but I haven't started practicing it yet).

Why do I feel like you've read Percy Jackson?😂😂
Duet for one book? Hmmm - sounds interesting. What songs are in it?
I love how you break these down! Without graphics or anything, and still easier to follow than most tutorials
This piece of music will have a place in my heart.
And where's the part 3 where you reveal the secret of adding the baseline toh the drum and chord combo?come on reveal the whole secret
You just gave away your trade secret. So generous! I am a beginner, but one day will get to this for sure. Thank you!
I BELIEVE!!!!!
But whats with the baseline and the drums?
10 years since I first saw you perform Billy Jean. I learned this by slowing your videos down :D
