I took guitar lessons from Sid back in Prince George, VA in the late 70s and early 80s. He was one of a kind and about the nicest guy you could ever meet. He had incredible patience with my ham-handed adolescent playing, and I learned so much from him. I still play things he taught me 40 years ago. RIP, Sid.

I saw Barbara and her sisters do a Sunday matinee in an NCO club in Germany summer of 1970. Taped the show, everyone autographed the tape box but a "friend" stole it. Barbara was 5 months pregnant and joked about having trouble placing the banjo. She played banjo, fiddle, steel guitar (Proud Mary and killed it), was over 50 years ago and still a strong fond memory, even met them all back stage.
I saw Barbara in concert around 1982 in Fayetteville, NC. She played every instrument on the stage and played them all well. She is an absolute American Gem and very sweet lady. Got to meet her and Steve Wariner after the show as Steve opened for her.

I liked Steve Wariner as well and he struck up a conversation with me as I was waiting in line to get your autograph after the show. I asked you to make it out to my mother on the Mandrell Family Album I purchased that night and you did. You also wrote a message to my mom telling her that you were very proud of me. God Bless you and your family!

RIP Sid. This guitar player just passed away Febuary 28, 2018 at only 62. Barbara's steel guitar player mike "cookie monster Jones passed Febuary 8, 2018. He was 65. So young and very much lived christian lives.
Very sad indeed - I wonder why musicians pass away so young? Musicians also have a much higher rate of depression than the general public??
