How much money did they reimburse him, please tell me bro this hurts
He should receive 40 million 1 million for every year he was incarcerated. All those years of being locked up he'll never get back
Hope he gets revenge by killing those who are responsible for this! That is what I would want to do at least if it was me.
How does anyone live with killing another even in an execution as it is still murder only the lsw protects them which it shouldnt as they are murderers.

That man deserves every minute of peace he can squeeze out of life. Respect.
I don’t think most people really even fathom this. Very few can actually relate to this man and truly understand the insane hardships he had to overcome to come out like he has.

I am amazed at how much peace he exudes and so happy that he doesn't seem to be wasting the rest of his life with anger that would finish him off. Sure there were innocent ppl who faced the death penalty as well.
Guy got out about a year or so ago here in Jacksonville did 42 and was proven innocent.
Exactly! Thanks for pointing out the fallacious claim
@@michaelspencer3369 you do realize this video was posted almost 3 years ago (Dec 07, 2018) and Ricky was exonerated on Nov 21, 2014 (nearly 7 years ago). At the time, he probably was the longest serving innocent person in US prison. This isn't some Guinness World Record contest, show some respect for the story they're sharing with us.
@@1oldskoolluvr Nothing BUT respect and abject empathy for those wrongfully convicted and sentenced. I once wrote a paper on the right of Habeas Corpus in regards to wrongfully convicted persons in the history of the American penal system, and was absolutely appalled during research to discover that HUNDREDS of people have been proven to have been wrongfully convicted, even executed...THAT WE KNOW OF...and this was my point. We cannot logically know who was the LONGEST, because it is not possible that we know of them all. Nothing but respect, and all who are proven to have wrongfully spent incarceration time should automatically get compensation in the Millions in my opinion. Meant no disrespect.
I did 11 years and got out when they realized I was innocent. Went in at 15 years old and got out at 26. I got a life sentence for something I didn’t do so I know how this feels.

In JESUS Name amen
Just happy Ohio finally paid him and the other two who were convicted with him. He has 7.2 million for 39 years in prison. Decent payday but not worth it to give up almost 40 years of your life.

@@billsmlth5381 What crack are you on? Also, you should probably learn by now that any statistic can be manipulated. If your society puts more effort into arresting black people over white people, guess what, that'll inflate the numbers of black arrests vs white arrests. If your society convict more black people than you do white people, guess what, that'll inflate the numbers of black convictions vs white convictions. If you're out looking for a particular type of person (black vs white) to commit a crime, well then, it's only natural that you'll be missing all the others (e.g. a long while back I remember watching a video showing racial profiling simulated, with employees following black people, but totally missing and not seeing the white people stealing because they were so focused on the black customers). Statistics are numbers capturing a detail in a very specific moment in time. Without context for how those numbers were achieved, where it derived, or what factors went into the situations creating these numbers, it's meaningless. It is still useful information but it is not God, it is not all-knowing, or all-seeing and cannot represent the totality of our lives. Just remember that. Stats only tell us a very, very small part of the story. The manipulation is not always intentional. There's a lot of unintentional bias in statistics because we are flawed human beings.

so impressive
As sad as it is, he's right. Look at the people who've been put to death and later found to be innocent. Or those that died in prison before they could be cleared. Then you've got others who spend decades of their lives in prison and are in states that have caps on how someone can be compensated. For example, here's a story of a man named Rickey Jackson that was cleared after nearly 3 decades. He's in Oklahoma, which only allows up to 175k in compensation

This should be mandatory viewing for every single proponent of the death penalty. You have to wonder how many similar cases ended in innocent people being murdered by the state...
Thousands most likely....
Not to sound like Jordan Peterson but go read The Gulag Archipelago. To understand what prison is is to understand what pure cruelty and inhumanity people can do to other people and feel no burden on their conscience. It's weird that the people who were accomplice to kidnapping and torturing this guy for nearly 40 years aren't punished.
The arrival of DNA profiling has exonerated some and brought other guilty verdicts into doubt in a number of cases _after_ the sentencing had already been carried out. It's haunting. Can't imagine what was going through their minds at the end.
You are setting yourself up to be surprised and disappointed with the reality of your fellow Americans. If you believe there are those that will see this vid and have some epiphany as to the flaws, lethally flawed truth of our system, be prepared to cry.
The guy was still in prison for 39 years. I still support the death penalty and if anything know we need to make the system cheaper and more efficient.
I am not going to pretend like a system created by man will be perfect. But we are still accountable to uphold the law and punish those who break them. We know there are risks but that is why we constantly try to make it better.
I still support war to protect Western interests and general liberalism/anti-totalitarianism even knowing that innocent civilian casualties usually end up being a victim.
The world sucks, we do our best to get by and normally we do not go out of our way to be cruel. If it means we execute horrendous people with a margin of error in wrongful conviction I say it is a tradeoff I personally am willing to accept, at least for now.

What would he tell? This crazy and cruel civilization took most of it away from him !
I’m so glad he was released and has no hatred in his heart ❤️..
May his days continue to be blessed and prosperous!
What’s even sadder is that none of the people who put him there will ever be held accountable.
He's taking it pretty well, he's got wisdom in his veins. Incredible.
40 years!!!,?? I don't know how
you can only be angry for so long.
He had to let that anger go!

Why are the prosecutors always free of any wrongdoing ?
They did thits on purpose, they should be in jail.
Prosecutors & all judicial judges have Immunity. I attempted to sue a judge once for Legal Malpractice and couldn't due to the laws protect them from such claims.
@@MemoGrafix laws need to be changed this can't go on.
l doubt if they are still alive. He's in his 60's now and was 18 when he got locked up. Sad story.
@@hellokitty2397 well Thats just a pretty shitty explanation. Great job referencing Emmett though, really showed your intelligence.
@Mr. R what truth? My mother who is white should be rich and have no permanent record according to these imaginary rules that y'all made up.
It takes a strong man to not give up, in the face of such a great injustice.
This man is in great shape for a guy in his 60s that in itself is inspiring 👏 🙌
NO amount of monetary compensation would be enough.
Agreed. 20 million or 200 million isn't enough.
He seems to have a ton of grace though and let the anger of the first decade go away.
What terrifies me is an innocent man goes to prison.
In order to stay alive himself he may or may not have to do things to protect himself.
What would have happened if after 40 years he picked up new charges.
@@missmissy_90 time served hopefully. But we are not good at being just in this country.

citizenofnowhere777 The state has to start somewhere, they cannot take his prime, productive years for free.
This man was awarded $1.6 million dollars for his wrongful imprisonment. I do not believe ANYONE in their right mind would take 1.6 million dollars in exchange for spending 40 years in prison. What is life and time worth? Much more than 1.6 million dollars, that’s what I believe. 1.6 BILLION???? NO WAY...what is the point of being a billionaire at the end of your life, with perhaps, 10 or 15 decent years remaining.
Idiot Savant i
Idiot Servant, there millions of people people his age or older that have never been incarcerated, been working all there adult life but don't have even 1000$ in savings, myself inclusive. He who laughs last, laughs best.
Not accepting it would make life even more shity.
Even on minimum wage. 40 years you can make way more than that. so for compensation and justice it needs to be in the hundreds of millions.
He still got a lot of life to live even at that age!
This is beautiful to see him living life how he derserves too
What a beautiful family, philosophy and video - i'm so glad I watched this
I broke into tears watching this,i just wanted to hug this bratha.
me too. it's soo painful
It’s scary how your freedom can be taken for 20+ years for something you didn’t do
Some people get framed. It is another way to kill someone
BaeBae ThaDon I agree
@BaeBae ThaDon or poor
Yes. But what's worse in my opinion is it takes a couple of years to prove his innocence. But 20 more years to acknowledge his innocence in higher court with the exact evidence that proven his innocence 20 before. System fudged up
@@purplebutterfly1040 yea is very sad smh 👎🏾
I do not know what to say to this strong and eloquent man but....
I so love watching you cutting your grass out in the sunshine knowing you now have the sound of children's laughter in your heart and your wife to love and hold.
Just happy to see the brother is now free and living his dream. It appears he was also financially compensated for what that's worth.
"The day they told me my mother died it was like telling me they ran out of mashed potatoes. That's how removed I was from it emotionally because I couldn't even show emotion." God bless you man! Strong and brave.
That happened when my older brother died. I was deeply affected, but I plastered over it, or something. Like I went numb.
I know that feeling my father died when I was in prison it broke my heart I miss my dad so bad I've been out for 20 years living on right side enjoying life
'You went in there as Rickey Jackson, you better come out of there as Rickey Jackson'
"went to sleep at 18 woke up at 60" those words made me cry
Isn’t it amazing how someone can go through such an injustice in their life yet have such a great internal peace of mind?💎
His story made me cry, grateful and thankful for freedom. Fighters keep fighting
And, I never heard him speak of vengeance.
What an amazing guy!
Myself I could be planning for one
No one should waste someone's precious time
He doesn't want to go to jail for a reason this time.
What kind of vengeance can he get? There is no point
FACT
That's the problem...
He deserves a mansion and a yacht! They certainly can't give him 40 years back, so they should make his life left sweet! Blessings to him!
He already got $2.6 million back in 2016. That should be plenty for whatever he wants, even if he never works for the rest of his life.
@@stephencoldbear not enough, but this is great news.

@@TheHebrewidow no, It's not "enough" whatever that means; the most important thing is that all that happened could not make him bitter. I don't know why I was meant to watch this, but j cried the whole time. This man is my Hero, I know of none stronger... Love U my brother, thank U💜

I spent 6 years in prison and I have been home since 2004. To this day I look at my life as before and after because the experience changed me. This man's story is powerful. I can only imagine the anger in him knowing that he was innocent for 40 years!!!! He should never want for anything for the rest of his days and even then he is owed more than could ever be given. God bless you brother, your strength is inspiring.
Just hearing you and watching this give me a sense of gratitude. You don't know me but you have changed my life!
No matter the struggles we endure, this goes to show that overcoming them is possible.
That's crazy, he said not everyone in life got the breaks he got. He's tough.
He is a very strong person. They took his freedom but not his spirit and reverence for life.
He's probably just thankful in a huge way, that he ddnt die in prison...I can almost bet, unless The Most High gave him a sign, he thought of course he was gonna die there...My heart sank from this story...
@@lasetlivingstin7752 God did give him a sign when he dreamed how he would live and it happened.

Without a doubt, this man fully understands the meaning of "live everyday to the fullest". That scene with him on his lawn mower is cathartic.

@IVAN KRAWEC that's his point fool, who knows how many people this has happened to
You’re absolutely correct. I’m sure there have been dozens others who went to their graves after serving longer sentences for committing no crime. God Damn America for her sins, lest she turns from her evil ways and makes reconciliation and reparations for them.
Thank you!
FACT
I bet there is another
For someone that has been in prison for 40 years he sure can articulate his words to paint a picture of feeling. Sounded like I was listening to a poem
My God. I cannot even fathom what this poor man has endured. If I had the chance to meet him, I think the first thing I would do, is to give him the biggest hug....for as long as he needed...because he seems like he's truly one of the most beautiful individuals I've ever seen or heard of. And, I would think that, after going thru what he's gone thru, that one of the things that they need, more than anything else, once they get out, is just a big, tight, hug...just to let them know that there's love for them. There's always love. What a phenomenal person.
