  • 📖 👉 We’re about to turn several Report pages, see the ghetto insurgents who fought against the odds, explain aspects of the German-perpetrated murder of Jews in occupied Warsaw, and look the Report protagonists, both perpetrators and victims, in the eyes. In episode 1, we’re focusing on the iconic photograph of a boy held at gunpoint by an SS-man.
ℹ️ In April 1943, German troops commanded by SS-Brigadeführer Jürgen Stroop went about emptying the Warsaw Ghetto. The Jews fought back, and Stroop needed four weeks to overcome their resistance, all the while burning, killing and sending trainloads of people to Treblinka gas chambers. The liquidation was documented in famous "The Jewish Quarter of Warsaw is No More" album, known as the Stroop Report. Its significance as a unique source of knowledge on the Holocaust was recognized by UNESCO, which included the document, kept in the IPN Archive, into its Memory of the World program.
