What car are you using? I recommend using a FF, break before the main corners and during the main downhill section where he increases speed left foot brake, it helped me win.
Takumi starts catching up to my 86 before and at the corner at 2:35 and starts falling behind after the corner lol. My 86 is fully tuned and i take that corner at 130 (still Takumi catches up lol)

Takumi Fujiwara is easy to beat in hard mode, but he always chases me at 2:11 corner, 5 consecutive corner, 3:55 corner and I get only 3:16:786 time (I used the stock car)
Well i guess that's one skill issue,cuz sometimes that happens to me to. Btw i defeated him with various cars and the most effective one is the fully tuned keiske's rx7 and fully tuned takumi 86
Tilent Gamer this is in ppsspp so its hard to slide your hand to shift gear when turning but in arcade they have shifter,steering wheel so you can easily shift gesrs when turning
The initial d weirdness is even you even drive the same speed as the cpu is, the gap always keep getting wider

I feel like the stock normal AE86 (not Takumi's) is fast when you don't tune it at all even the engine

You tune your car with cards. After getting tuning cards you can apply them in the menu.
