It's often expressed in a more passive way, for example being extremely, overly proud of your heritage. Like white people who say "we invented the modern world". I think we can all agree that this man, Jim Brown, has most certainly validated himself. What a great man, we should all strive to be like him. These strong black figures though out history have been cut down repeatedly by reactionary groups of whites whenever they take a stand against racial injustice and these black men and women repeatedly stand up, straighten their back, and stand proud for what they believe in. All while not reacting violently toward the racism they faced, they did so with nobility, humility and pride in their in cause and for their people who they were standing up for and they all should be commended for their noble actions.
For the record, I'm white, born and still living in Los Angeles, I hate white supremacy but I do have racist tendencies because of my white west side of LA up bringing. But the racial injustices we have all witnessed in the last 150 years in this country make me sick, from whites only anything to slavery to small pox blankets to Tuskegee experiments to lynchings to constant killing of unarmed black men by police to the blue line that then protects those same racist cops and puts them back out on patrol, from MLK to Medgar Evers to Malcolm X to Mike Brown to Trayvon Martin to Eric Garner to Ahmaud Arbery to George Floyd and on and on and on....

Jim Brown has forgotten more about the subject of racism than most people will ever know or learn. He, too, was ahead of his time, and he is the only NFL player, black, white, or other, who gave the "Big Middle Finger" to the NFL, and pulled it off. Brown was the NFLs primary star in 1966 when he was threatened with fines for remaining in Europe on the set of filming "The Dirty Dozen." He said he would make more doing movies, and that it was much easier on the knees. The NFL really dug in it's collective heels after that, and the recent targeting of Jon Gruden as the only person who expressed racist views, reflects the degree to which the NFL will go to protect its shield.

Grew up watching Jim Brown every Sunday during football season, and still consider him the greatest running back of all time. And I sincerely respect what he's done in the last 40 years, working with the gangs and trying to instill black pride and industry. There is no doubt racism is as widespread today as it was 60 years ago; just not as overt. But what Brown doesn't mention is that racism is a two-way street, and if he's going to make generalizations about whites as he did here, and claiming to know what is in their mind and heart, then he's being as racist as the people he's accusing. I still believe you have to take each person as they are without prejudging them. After working in tough inner city neighborhoods for 40 years, I know it goes both ways, but I also know there are people of both races with good hearts and open minds. Making the kind of comments Brown made here do damage.

For me, this is quite sad. As a boy, I loved the NY Giants, but the day I savored was when they played the Clev. Browns on T.V.. I had trouble watching a whole game = I would be excited & at 1/2 time i'd gather some friends to play football. But, when Browns played, i'd watch entire game to see as much of the amazing Jim Brown as I could. When I played I made believe I was him. He was most important sports figure of my life (Willie Mays was 2nd). But, Jim does not make sense here. 2 major reasons: The great sin of Slavery in America is long gone (any racism u perceive today cannot come close that) & we have a Black president = he received 43% of White & 96% of Black votes in 2008 (this means his white opponent only rec'd 4%). It is absurd to assert that a nation, whose majority is White & elects a Black as it's President, is more racist now. If there is a racial bias or a degree of racism here, it is Black not White. No, White racism is a pittance of what it was & it is less than Black racism. This can be blamed on on our past sins against Blacks, but it is real. Jim's entire charge of White racism is a fallacy that perpetuates a false stereotype that hurts our nation which despeately needs to heal. Taking this speech as fact only hurts all of us. Sorry to see Jim's mind was in decline. He never needed to be validated by whites. He knew he was the best there ever was & that 1,000's of White males knew this & adored & wished they were him. Such a shame. If he & scores of other big past & present Black athletes & other achievers would tell the truth to their people, how much better they r treated, all the opportunity & help there is in America for those who want to earn their way up, the $Billions of tax payer & donated funds that have been & still r given to help them over the years & on & on, we would see a better life for all of us, in peace & harmony. Who you are as a human being, a man, is already validated and needs no validation by myself or any other white person for that matter. But I need validation. As a white man who was raised in a society that ingrained into my mind that black people were not like us, were less than us, could never be our equals; I need validation. As a white man who is aware of what black people went through, from the days of slavery and through jim crow, and being terrorized by murderous racists. And as a white man that is aware of what is still going on today, the racism and how it affects the lives and minds of black people everywhere. I need validation, Mr. Brown. I very much need for you, and all black people to know, that I can never be complete - not as a white man, but as a man , a human being, a fellow person - unless I separate myself from the indoctrination of white supremacy, to affirm not your humanity, but my own. I need validation, for you to know, that I don't see you as a black man. I see you as a man. I need validation, because whiteness and humanity cannot coexist. It is the casting off of whiteness and the taking up of humanity that is my validation. Not as a privilege or honor for people of color, but for myself. My own validation, repudiation of white supremacy, and birth into the human race. It is myself, and all so-called "white people", who are in need of validation.

Jim knows his shit! He been one of most the socially conscious athletes the history of sports. As old as he's his knowledge is profound. Just look how that young white reporter was in awe of the wisdom he knew. M

Love Jim Brown and most everything he says but I didn’t necessarily personally agree with this, as a white male I can’t say I personally feel or have ever felt any superiority simply because of that, for one because I didn’t have anything to do with what color or gender I came out when I was born so deserve no credit for it, and two that there are so many horrible things white males have done in the recent history of our country alone that if anything that would make me feel inferior or at least feel the opposite of pride. Do love the discussion though and I hope we are at least headed in the right direction of everyone just being a person and us as a whole just being people. The best paintings are ones that have lots of different awesome colors coming together to make one great thing, as opposed to the paintings that are just grey and colorless. Agree or disagree, best wishes to all my fellow human beings out there. Put positivity out to all living things in life, because that’s what we all would like in return.

probably the part that I did not want to see in America is the black part plus some of the Jews, however, the African literacy has affected some of the white which made great problem. so it hasn't affected uneducated individuals but rather have affected great number of people.
