- WWE 2K Battlegrounds can be fun on a very casual level for a short amount of time if you've got a group of friends to play with, and it's not quite a disaster on the level of WWE 2K20, but it is nonetheless another in a growing series of misses for WWE video games.

THQ was the publisher, developer Yuke's did the meat and potatoes, their last game being 2K19. They're working on something now and hired one of the main THQ designers, Bryan Williams who talks about all the games he was involved with on the Everything Pro Wrestling podcast. The last THQ game was WWE '13, it was 2K in name only.

After 2K took over WWE games, wwe games died. They wanted to make them just like NBA games and it didn’t workout.

Honestly other game developers should step up for the wrestling genre. What I would give to enjoy wrestling games as much as I did in the smackdown vs raw era

Still think this was a mobile game pushed up to consoles to replace the missing WWE 2K21. What a waste of an opportunity.
It was a switch title back in 2016 when they started development to release for the platform. Last minute decision to put on all platforms explains the issues currently with it
to each its own, i feel like this is a great change of pace and is pretty decent for a alpha build. Beta build coming soon with everything fixed and patched. It's an easy 8.5 for me but we all have our opinions.

As someone who bought it cuz I was drunk af one night and figured it would be worth it, it is not, this game is about as fun as getting free tickets to a WWE RAW featuring a main event of anyone vs Baron Corbin in any match.

@@djaafardjaafar7381 2K is owned by one of the biggest gaming companies in the world Take 2 and Take 2 also own a couple of companies an example is the gold mine Rockstar games, so microsoft or sony owning Take 2 would be a unrealistic low chance.
I actually quite like the style of this game. The animations look suitably cartoony. Shame about everything else... All-Stars was amazing

After a couple online games and a few story missions you can get multiple wrestlers. It’s pretty easy work tbf.
Yeah its actually not hard at all to get all the wrestlers at least i didnt find it grindy at all.
Within an hour you can have your 2 fav. Superstars, not the littlest problem

I'm sorry everyone but I just do not find games like this to be my go-to that I must buy it. I don't not like to support games that offer microtransactions out the wazzo for people to just bypass their way to the end. If gaming developers wanted to make a grindy type game then make one, why does real money have to be involved, just have us all work for the wrestlers we want to achieve. Ok so the grinding is easy, great wonderful, why am I still given the opportunity option to buy the wrestlers I want with real currency. What a waste of time implementing something like that. Such a poor choice when all they could have done is just take out MTX and let us grind for the wresters the right way. Phooey that's what I say. At least it's not as bad as say like Madden and NBA. But still, come on man. So dumb.

Ranallo was the best they had. The best 3 person team they could have put together for a game was Graves, Ranallo, and Renee and they drove 2/3 now all they have is Cole and a bunch of his clones he trained. At least AEW has some dope ones.

Some of the animations, like the chokeslam animation looked like they were ripped straight out of all stars
I will wait for a price drop/sale before I even consider getting this. Heck might even purchase this on eBay down the road so 2k doesn't even see a dime for their microtransaction filled mess.

Right it’s cool for a Nintendo game
It's a quick fun game with the kids. We are having fun building our characters. My only disappointment is that Royal Rumble is only 1 player and once eliminated the rumble ends.
Thank you, IGN for giving an honest review. WWE needs to find someone else to publish & develop their games unless they don't care about failing year after year while losing more supporters.

Summary: My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.

I mean it's nothing like the old gold svr series but still, i appreciate freestyle games in our days even when they have their design issues. also the menus are pretty cool with the toy boxes and i really liked the comic book instead of cutscenes. idk what is up with the ign guy lol

After playing for a few hours, the gameplay reminds me of Powerstone on the Dreamcast. Easy to pick up and play.
Sadly it is loaded with glitches, hit detection problems, and game crashes. We deserve better quality games from 2K.

I actually had some hopes for this. Wrestling in general is cartoony goofy fun so having a video game embrace that and go to the extreme with that concept seems more appealing to me than a so called sim version. Too bad they blew it.
I loved the WWE All Stars demo on PS3. This is a bit worse but I still appreciate the effort.

WCW vs NWO games on the N64 were peak Wrestling games. WWF No Mercy is similar if you prefer WWE.
Bought it, played it, beat the campaign. Really tried to like the game. It feels unfinished, no grapple moves on the ground besides the poor submission move, no superplexes/corner grapples, just a lousy face pole slam, bugs everywhere, just frustrating on a higher difficulty (every move gets countered). It’s only fun with friends in a cage match but gets old fast due to limited match types.
Meh, I'm enjoying it for what it is, a budget arcadey wrestling game. Also, I'm glad the game gives you things to actually buy with the in game currency. Gives me a reason to play

Well I wasn't shocked either because of the subtitle battlegrounds which remind me of NBA 2k playgrounds 2 which the first game wasn't owned by 2k and made the sequel microtransactions and long grind system. Sad that thq doesn't hold the license to wwe anymore ever since the wwe 2k17 game I stopped liking the series
They're not micro transactions. You earn virtual currency BY PLAYING, to unlock things. You don't have to actually buy anything. There's no paywall.

I wouldn't say fortnite makes anyone buy things though. All you had to do was buy the battle pass for 950 vbucks ( less than 10 bucks) and you get every battle pass ever. You get 1500 vbucks out of the battle pass. Buy it once and you can buy the battle pass every season and spend 550 vbucks per season on whatever. Not very greedy if you ask me for a free to download game.
