    I love the Dashes... They're a joy to fly on. I could watch the gears go up and down all day long! 😄
    Its very rare 2 runways in use like that. I'm am an ex air traffic controller, I can tell you just the thought of that makes my palm sweat.

      Ha! You certainly feel like you're flying in an airplane compared to some of the larger jets.
      I didn't know those parallel operations were so rare. Wow - working as an air traffic controller would have been an incredible experience!

      I've flown on the Dashes out of Mildura & they are one of my favorite aircrafts It can be a bit Interesting In summer Mildura gets well into the 40s so the air can be a bit bumpy.

    Nice video! I like the window views on your flight! Qantaslink's Dash-8s reminds me Dash-8s of Austrian Airlines. Unfortunately, here in Europe, many airlines are retiring these aircraft and replacing them by jets.

      Thanks Pete! :)
      That's interesting - on the one hand, I can understand it, on the other, for short distances, turboprops are far more efficient than jets (and I imagine, also better for the environment given fuel consumption).

    Great review. I love the views on those flights up and down the NSW coast, especially when you’re cruising at a lower altitude. FYI the NSW town of Forster (also the name of the aircraft) is pronounced Foster.

      Thank you so much! Damn - I thought I'd mastered Australian town names - ha! There's always another one that catches you out. Well, now I know - cheers! ;)

    I love Port Macquarie. The north coast of New South Wales is so beautiful.

    Nice ride.
    Some geographical features for reference:
    8:13 - Broken Bay (mouth of the Hawkesbury River) at left, Brisbane Water at right
    8:19 - The flat built-up area is the Woy Woy Peninsula (Woy Woy, Umina, Ettalong)
    9:08 - Lake Macquarie

    • @FromtheWindowSeat
      @FromtheWindowSeat  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you - really appreciate that! I'm sometimes tempted to add extra geographical features into the video using Google Maps to work it out, but worry I'll get something wrong. ;)

      @@FromtheWindowSeat You're welcome. Given that you'd labelled other features in the video I figured that you weren't sure what they were. And yes, it can be easy to get them wrong when seeing them from unusual angles. I'm familiar with those areas on the ground but still double-checked Lake Macquarie on a map.

    Thankful that Port Macquarie did a refurb of their airport in the last few years. Prior to about 2018/2019 there wasn't a luggage belt in arrivals, so it was collection from the back of a cart pulled trolley. Rather strange it took them so long to build.

  • @aussiestudenttraveller

    Port Macquarie is so underrated! Great review :)

    Thanks Adam for sharing this & your other travel experiences. Love the Q400, such a great run up to Port. we lived there for 10 years, seen plenty of aircraft at Port Macquarie airport, including the Embraer E170 & E190's when Virgin introduced them to the market.

    • @FromtheWindowSeat

      Thank you - glad you enjoyed it! Yes, the E190 and E170 are great little aircraft ... I'm glad that QantasLink is flying them through their partnership with Alliance.

    Apparently virgin and alliance have another codeshare agreement, to operate these ex virgin Australia routes with there f70’s and f100’s. I am a local to port, great to see more content!

    • @FromtheWindowSeat
      @FromtheWindowSeat  Před 3 lety

      Yes, I read that the ACCC approved codeshares for 41 regional routes but I don't think Virgin has confirmed any of them yet. Hopefully soon. :) Lucky you - Port is lovely (although I think if I was a local, I might get frustrated by all the tourists - haha!).

    Air New Zealand operate the Q300. I believe these are not being manufactured and what they will replace these with, goodness knows
