@ThePanzerWarMachine Those were one hell of a ride, really awesome the way these critters speed across the terrain, definetly getting another ride on one next year.
my boss has a mate that found one of these. he was in France and found a Kettenkrad under a shed, it was flat as a pancake but he got it repaired. he now uses it as a run-a-bout on his scrap yard. he also has a pair of Sherman's that he is restoring.
sadly there extremely rare. i believe the few kettenkraud that are up for auction go up for about $65,000 and upwards because of there rarity and superior German engineering.
Seeing this in action I have to wonder, does the front wheel really do anything? It doesn't look like it is bearing any weight and looks flimsy compared to the rest of the vehicle, if the vehicle pushes onto its front wheel it might look like it will warp from all that mass and speed. I mean, doesn't it rather use different speeds for each track to steer? The handlebars for steering just look like an easier interface than having levers for each track.
The front wheel "tells" the tracks to turn. That's its function. It was designed so that soldiers that knew how to drive a motorcycle could drive it. The vehicle can also run without it, but it's harder to steer.
tekis0 The tracks have only one function is to move forward/backward. There is no turning function for the tracks. Only the front wheel will control the sterring of kettenkrad.
Think it has hydraulic brakes to turn.the handlebars and wheel are part of a mechanism that slows one side like turn right:slows right track to turn. turn left:slows left track to turn
wish i had one of these... i love these things :(

Yellow Submarine wrong
Yellow Submarine If only the front wheel steered the thing then how did farmers buy these, remove the front wheel and use them as tractors?

она поворачивает и за счет колеса, и может как танк, с помощью гусениц
