Thanks for watching for 50 episodes! Btw, I want to shout out www.diskman.com/presents/gamecom/ for being an amazing source on all things GameCom.
Stay powerful, more episodes are coming! ➕🔥🔥
You're welcome uncle Derek, It's you Derek!
do games you hate exist?
DiskMan a.k.a. the Lost Mega Man Boss
Banane
Can we get punching weight: watara Supervision?
Those glasses have evolved Uncle Derek into Papa Derrick
😄😄
"Hi, I'm Derrick, it's me, your Papa Derrick-"
He literally does look like my father with those glasses.
Hey Nitro! Didn't know you watched SSFF!
Look it’s Antdude making a surprise appearance after his sonic story book series episode.
Most people on the internet "Here's something i hate and why i hate it and you should too!"
Uncle Derek "Here's something that is bad and why I LOVE IT!" all with the biggest smile...this is the content we need right now!
I can't agree with this enough. My entire youtube feed right now is full of "The Last of Us Part 2 is terrible and you should feel bad for liking it" videos for example, bless Derek and his videos full of fun and positivity.
@@tylosaurusrex101 i feel like alot of the YT algorithm is now geared towards negative content, so it's much more prevalent, whereas this is something that should be negative and giving it a joyous fun spin...but then most of SSFF stuff is geared that way and it's so refreshing!
Derek be needin to talk about Last of Us 2. Only he and CinemaWins can make stupid opinions turn into slightly less stupid opinions, worst case scenario.
everyone wants to be avgn
@@Haysey_Draws you're not wrong. So much of CZcams is just angry content. Gamers are too angry these days. Take a chill pill.
"Unbelievably bad and highly recommended."
Now there's a box quote for the Tiger GameCom.
I've got some really bad news Derek, I looked into the voice from Duke Nukem, unfortunately it's an emulator bug, the voice is fine when played on a real Gamecom.
Learning this made me really sad, it was just too good to be true I guess.
"How could you screw up this bad!? I love it!!" -Derek
Derek's taste boiled down to a single quote
It's funny that the GameCom can fit 1/10 of its library inside it.
@Marcus Mysteriously Putting a whole new meaning to, "THIS THING HAS MORE GAMES THAN YOU IDIOTS HAVE BRAIN CELLS"
How many could you fit if you hollowed out the innards? SCIENCE DEMANDS TO KNOW!
Hey cut it some slack it was only around for 3 years
💀
Correction: It's not impossible to run up the tree. The trick is to let go of the dad as you make contact. If you press anything else you will disrupt the animation and fall. I've beaten each game with each character. That's how dedicated I was to ringing enjoyment out of this. :)
Ok, I never would've tried letting go of the dad (my own dad, I assume?) to beat a Sonic game. But then again, that would've been a pretty big sacrifice to let go of my dad just to finish a game that's part of the series that I don't even like.
And what do you do if you don't have a dad
Do you get an advantage or it will become impossible
@@aleanddragonITA it will become impossible. Unless you make someone adopt you only to let go of them or something. Or perform a sacred ritual of soulbonding with someone who has a dad and then make that person let go of him, but I would not recommended that (unless they're your enemy and you wanna hit two birds with one stone by making them feel abandoned).
what if I buffer the dad drop and it comes out early?
Papa can you hear me?
Dont worry Uncle Derek from 2020, we are laughing at the Symphony of the night gamecom ost together on 2022
" Amazing Tiger com Game Ports" are words never thought I'd ever hear .
7:33 I like how they tried to include the period after P in "R.P.D." but it just makes Leon's shirt say "RAD" while he gives you a look like an Easter Island Moai statue.
The duality of man on Resident Evil 2:
The channel "Rerez": It leaves one of the characters out, it controls real bad, "it's a straight up bio-hazard"
Derek: It can talk, controls bad but you can go anywhere, it's decent!
Derek's enthusiasm for garbage is infectious lol.
The *glee* with which you say "and it would have been terrible" perfectly sums up why I love this channel.
All I really remember about this thing is that a kid in Sunday School said he would take it with him on a deserted island, with the justification that it could send email, and could therefore be used to call for help.
Nevermind that satellite phones were already a thing by 1997 or that the Game.com could only connect to the internet using an external modem that had to be plugged into the wall, nope, let’s go with Tiger’s second failed attempt at competing with the Game Boy. XD
Duke Nukem over here sounding like “Oh Yeah” by Yello.
The sound emulation isn't doing well that it pitches down the sound for every game
He kept failing the Gran Turismo 4 license tests.
FYI: The emulation for game com isn't perfect, so that's why the voices are so slow
It's actually not as bad on the real thing
So you either have ghosting and weird green tint ... or slow sounds ?
No, it's worse. The ghosting on this system can be quite horrific and worse than any slowdown. This emulation is showing up the device in a much better light than it actually is.
It's better on MAME
Emulators really don't capture the utter crap-ness of that miserable screen, either.
@bigevilworldwide1 nah its a developers debug emulator, thank goodness; a lot of people live sad lives but i dont think anyone would stoop this low
Having owned one of these, my two critiques are...
1) It’s basically a Nintendo DS before the tech was there to achieve it.
2) It’s totally a natural progression from the Tiger handheld LCD games.
Tech for touch screen was bouncing around way before Gamecom, PDAs were a thing after all. More than likely Nintendo was probably prototyping or checking that stuff out, but I'm guessing like always, they were waiting until the tech was dirt cheap enough to license or implement.
SaintAlia_of_the_Games I don’t really think it’s fair to compare PDA touch screens to the DS. They are night and day different. Tiger tried to come out with a black and white touch screen interface when other handheld consoles like the GameBoy and Game Gear were already in color without touch screen capability. That alone would have been enough to doom the console. That’s exactly what I meant though. The DS benefited greatly from just under a decade of tech advancement in both color touch screens AND internet connectivity. Not to mention processing power. You can see how much the Game.Com struggles to run even a dumbed down version of Sonic. Of course money was an issue too. Companies aren’t going to release a product that costs $1000 because of its components when the market won’t pay for it.
@@ruekurei88 The Lady of the Knife taking Occam's Razor to this is great. But my opinion on the DS/3DS screen is that they were waiting for it to be reliable and maintainable rather than cheap.
Accurate comment.
5:34 its like the world's saddest marimba cover of a Sonic game
I had a gamecom when I was a kid. We got it from a kaybee toys bargain bin and I had Duke nukem and wheel of fortune. The system was 20 and the games were 5 dollars each. At the time it was actually pretty cool
Game.com for life!
hey it's Shane from Rerez!
Woah.
Shane!
Hi
I love that website!
"I don't know if this is a bug or feature of capitalism."
Yes.
The Duke voice in AVGN's copy doesn't sound like that
I think that might be because it's emulated in this video.
“How did this happen?!” Tiger leveraged existing relationships from their LCD handheld business with license holders and promised easy money by taking all development and marketing in house.
These emulated video clips betray the complete unplayability of these games, especially Sonic lol. The screen refresh rate on the actual hardware is probably the worst of all time. Cannot see a thing when any game is in motion!
But I love this handheld. I got it for Christmas in 1997. I actually ASKED for it. I wanted it. I bought a whole mess of games for it. A beautiful train crash.
I legit spent like a solid minute laughing at the idea of freaking Command&Conquer on this thing.
Also, I just wanna say that your videos full of genuine fun and joy are a stark contrast to the standard "I hate this and here's why you should too!" on CZcams.
Thanks for doing what you do man, yours is one of my favorite channels.
I hope it would have been a game along the line of Gameboy Wars.
Amazing and Gamecom should not be in the same damn sentence lol
I loved Duke 3D, Resident Evil 2 and Fighters Megamix on the gamecom. The official emulator runs at speed that is kinda slow compared to the actual hardware. I set the speed to 120 in the config file. The emu will error but will still proceed with emulation. Not exactly the definitive way to play the games but being able to see what's going on it a big help. Also, in that tree you were stuck on in sonic jam...run full speed to the right and let go of on road in the tree. Holding right sends you back to the right. Odd to say the least.
Imagine a classic sonic games collection with just sonic genesis for sonic 1 and the tiger gamecom ports of sonic 2, 3, and knuckles
sad part is that's probably the only way they would ever release 3 and knuckles again lol.
Can't wait for the Gizmondo video, the behind the scenes shenanigans are something else.
Congrats on 50 episodes!! Here's to 50 more!
I'm impressed that you managed to A: fit 5 glasses on your face at once, and B: take them off all together in one swift movement. Well done sir.
Jesus, I already can't find my comment from like 5 minutes ago where I mentioned that the emulation here is wrong and the Duke voice should sound like the pc one actually, not all slowed down. I assume the Resident Evil 2 one should as well then. (The music is still... just ... spot on...). I came back to mention that I actually owned one of these as a kid and can confirm that I actually DID have friends HOWEVER, I did give it to my friends little sister with Batman and Robin, Duke 3d, and Lights Out and ... despite having seen her since then at events where you would think we should exchange a few words she's never spoken to me again and I'd like to think this is why. GROOOOOOOOVY.
Oh my god those Duke voice lines are amazing. They sound like a YTP from 2010
I love all the gamecom talk lately on CZcams. Keep it coming!
I have one of these still. Couldn’t bring myself to get rid of it. 🤦♂️
I wish I hadn't gotten rid of mine
I love just how legitimately excited you get about these topics man, it's so infectious, keep it up
Hey, I don't know if anyone else has commented about this, but Namco/M2 recently released a new NES port of Gaplus and a demake of Pac Man Championship Edition, also for NES!
Love watchin y'all. Y'all got me through so much boredom since last November. Headin on over to that patreon and I can't wait for more stuff from you guys.
I miss the old intro with the kick ass music and SSFF animation.
Lighting looking good again. Quick swaps between cameras is *chefs kiss* and matches that manic energy. My dream is you unravelling a conspiracy over 15-20 minutes in between 5 cameras with frantic shifts to match your eye contact.
Man, this channel just keeps getting better. Love you guys!
Thank you for making videos, you really brighten the day for many people. Have a nice 2023 and take care!
I really love how much you love this stuff. Keeps me coming back. Congratulations for your 50th episode.
Woohoo!! Happy 50th! Love the series, have watched them all multiple times, and can't wait to watch the next 50!
i asked for this for its christmas release when i was in 6th grade, and I got it. I was so stoked based on the ads, and I spent so much time exploring all on the non-game functions. One thing you missed was the Jeopardy game. It came with a book with 100 pages of "answers" that the game would direct you to. It was so weird and unique, truly a device ahead of its time.
Imagine this: a GameCom event for EVO...
I'd love to see an EVO moment # 37 for this thing!!!
I wanted to say that this type of video is the exact reason I have been revisiting and binging on the Punching Weight (and SSFF in general) playlist. To find a level of joy and positivity in the face of some combination of incompetence, hubris, and negligence.
My life is kind of feeling like that right now, and I was semi-consciously drawn back to SSFF because I remembered just how good it made me feel even when talking about things that were terrible disasters. People are going to screw up. But instead of getting angry or being filled with hate, maybe take a step back to appreciate the scope of what was attempted. Not everything can turn out perfectly, and in a lot of situations, important lessons (and even joy!) can be learned along the way.
Thanks, SSFF.
Your happiness and enthusiasm are a gift. Thank you sir!
I’ll never forget the day Uncle Derek invited me to the “Bone Dungeon”.
I would never again see life through the same eyes I had seen it before that day.
And never sat down the same again.
As the owner of a game.com, I would pay a lot of money to be able to play that cancelled SotN port.
Genuinely one of the best episodes yall have made!!
Happy 50th, Uncle Derek and Producer Grace! Thanks for all your hard work!
Man, I love so much Punching Weight, honestly one of my favorite sections across the whole you tube content.
Nothing makes my day better than seeing Uncle Derek and Producer Grace upload a video ❤️ amazing video as always!
God I love you guys. You always brighten my day when I see you in my feed!
50 episodes already?? Time flies, Unkie Dewwick! Thank you as always for making such interesting and entertaining content
I love Uncle Derk! I'd love to see you cover some other forgotten hand helds. Like the Neo Geo Pocket! I still remember TV ads for the Neo Geo Pocket Color. The Pocket Color ad even shows Sonic the Hedgehog!
Love the shirt, Derek.
HOUSE!!!
It's Hausu mixed with something else's art style. It's on the tip of my tongue, but I don't know what it is? Does anyone here know?
Had to rewatch this video after the recent discovery of the SOTN Game Com port prototype reminded me of it
This might be one of the best episodes you’ve done! Top
I feel like SSFF has definitely found its tone. These videos have been killer lately.
Congrats on the big 50 episodes! This series is great!
I once found a brochure for the Game Com that featured an advertisement for a Batman and Robin game, saying it was based "on the soon to be a classic Warner Brothers film."
Man I love waiting and anticipating these videos. Such quality and detail.
This has become my favorite "retro-gaming" channel, I really dig the style. New AVGN video - meh; new SSFF - f*** yeah!
I had this bad boy. But the only game I had was Mortal Kombat. And of course the Lights Out game that comes loaded with it. Thanks for always being here having fun and being positive, Uncle Derek. You make me genuinely happy.
I was that kid who brought the GameCom to recess, I had mortal kombat and jeopardy which was amazing because you had to spell the answer and not given multiple choice “answers in form of questions”
Love weird game ports. This is also why I love the Switch for similar reasons. These vids always keep me coming back!
Seeing Dereck so happy and excited to talk about the game com is amazing !
When you showed this on your Twitter I could not wait for this video!
That GDQ poster :O I love it!
Great video! I sadly bought one of these on purpose. It's so awful and I love it haha.
Yes! I was hoping that you would do an episode on this!
As soon as video started I shouted "HOUSE" upon seeing the shirt
The Sonic Jam music sounds like a shop theme from some old JRPG
I don't remember Duke 3D's sounds being so slow and deep on the actual hardware. Wonder if it's an emulation thing.
Yes first thing I thought of when watching the video. Sound nothing like that on the original.
Hey Derek, it’s me Steve / this is an Absolute class video!!!! Woop woop to Derek & grace!!! Much salutes to you both from the UK!
Hey DerekItsYouDerek! Grats to you and Producer Grace on 50 friggin episodes. I remember those commercials but never knew any one who ever actually had or even seen a GameCom. We all still new it was bad. So many weird random handhelds over the years, especially in that era. Only ever seen the WonderSwan in screenshots, and wasn't until a few years back I actually saw a real life Nokia N_Gage.. No clue what some of these companies were thinking.. What a time to be a gamer. :p
This is the exact kind of dumb and obscure nonsense I subscribed for, love you guys!
I've been watching video game content on CZcams since the Angry Nintendo Nerd days. You guys easily put out some of the best video game content I've ever seen.
DEREK, SOTN FOR THIS THING GOT LEAKED, I WANT YOU TO EXPERIENCE IT
Duke sounds like he's lounging in the Pepsi For TV Game living room
I actually had this as a kid and it was the model with two game ports. I remember getting a Batman game and some quiz game you used the pen with. I never knew anybody who had one lol
Awww yeah! Punchin Weight is my favorite segment here at SSFF!!!!
I bought Duke and the system on extreme clearance, and the voice was surprisingly accurate on original hardware. Still very crunchy, but the tone and tempo were right. Makes me want to dig mine out to hear it!
Congrats on 50 episodes! It's hard to believe the Game.Com was a real system. Also, for years I thought you were supposed to call it the Game dot Com because the internet
I had a Gamecom. I adored it for a short while. The only game I recall having for it was some sort of arcade collection, and it had Joust on it. It's probably, hopefully, buried somewhere in a box at my mom's house.
Congrats on 50 episodes!
I had a gameCom, I still have it in its original box somewhere. It was cool that the box had a handle so you could travel with it. No matter how many games I had for that thing... I got the most play out of "Lights Out" haha! I remember when the DS first came out and I thought, oh it's like the GameCom....
Dude! You are my favorite creater on CZcams! Hands down! But you need more Producer Grace on camera. You guys have a great dynamic! And an episode on the Neo Geo Pocket Color would be awesome! Thanks to you both for all the great vids!
Hey Derek, are you ever going to cover the Neo-Geo Pocket or WonderSwan? or have you already and I missed it?
Love your work Derek. Never change.
The trick to running up the tree in Sonic 3 is to let go of the DPad.
I had to learn that on my own as a kid
Amazing shirt, thanks for crediting the artist. I already have a Hausu shirt, but a Hausu/Cheshire cat mashup? Yes please.
Edit: or wait, is thins a Sweet Home thing, too?
i wish i had the passionate glee for anything as much as derek does for terrible ports. he's so happy!
congrats on 50 episodes!
Congrats on episode 50! Here to more 50!
This was one of your best episodes friend
Fun Fact - Resident Evil 2 Game. Com and RE2 Tiger 99X were 2 different games! The 99x had friggin Deathmatch and level skips!
Hey, since I have your attention for a brief moment, just want to let you know that I love your content! As a 90s kid it's nice to see some of this stuff I grew up with appreciated and not laughed at. There will always be room in my heart for Tiger Handhelds, R Zone, and all those cool RadioShack LCD games.
I'd love it if the game . com eventually gets a homebrew community that figures out it's actually an amazing machine and most developers loaded and redrew sprites inefficiently and never explored the extensive sound api.
Great episode guys!
