  • We're talking Star Trek & theology today!
Taking the Star Trek aliens known as Klingons as an archetype, Dr. Swamidass and Mike Heiser discuss how Christians should approach the concept of discovering intelligent life in the universe. The ethics of interbreeding is evaluated, as well as the question of whether or not Klingons would need to be saved in the traditional sense. Are Klingons under the curse of Adam? Should we worry that Klingons are demons? Dr. Swamidass and Mike Heiser emphasize the need for imagination in Christian theology as they project what theological questions would arise if extra terrestrials are found.

Would mythical/fantasy people like elves, dwarfs, fairies, trolls, nymphs, skin walkers, yeti, werewolves and vampires count as people too?

Interesting you mentioned structuralism, convergence, and rare earth - any chance you can get Simon Conway Morris on sometime? :)

This was a great conversation, keep it up!
Mike's audio was way quieter than Josh's though, which made it hard to listen to.
Do you think you can start putting out your videos in podcast format too?

22:00 Mike argues along the lines of a legitimate vs. illegitate use of reproduction. This seems to compare closely with the “sons of God/ daughters of man Nephilim” account. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should or that it was God-intended.

Really love Dr Heiser but this seems a bit out of his usual content, but interesting though

If my daughter came home with a "Kling-on"? Nothing new about that. I guess I'd be interested in getting hold of her light speed travel device.
