Dear Amelia, I am watching your channel from Germany. Here around 80% of the horses are concave to the right. It is easier to ride them on a circle to he right. They want to come in on the right and go out on the left. While riding it is more difficult to make them look to the inside on the left hand. It needs to bend the body to the left first by using the inside leg and then ask with the inside rein. If you use the inside rein to much before having archived the right bend they kind of "break " around the withers and tend to have problems with rhythm which can look like a lameness. I teach to better let them look to the right for a moment after changing from right to left circle and first take care of the right bend in the body and then carefully use the left rein. When I watch such horses being lunged they still want to come in on the right and drift out on the left. But very often I see their head going to the left on the right hand. My question is why they look easier to the right under the saddle and tend to look to the left when they are lunged. Do yo have any idea?

I definitely think the topic oriented Q&A was a great idea. Keeps us all thinking about the same subject . So many ways to frame a question and answer on one topic . This often leads to a revelation . " Oh now I ger it" !! Thanks Amelia and German.

Maybe replace “straightness” with “alignment.” Straight on a circle is a contradiction in terms. When I heard alignment on a circle or curved line for the first time, I understood. You used the word alignment in your answer and I think the emphasis should be on that term. Also, to feel alignment. How do you explain this? When the horse is correctly aligned let’s say on a circle, we feel him become fully upright for the first time. All the body parts line up and you feel him “click” into position that you haven’t felt before. How do you explain this? I don’t know. You have to feel it. Then the hard part is to find it again when you lose it and to maintain it in all movements and gaits. This is why we say “ignorance is bliss” LOL. But if you define bliss, knowledge is the essential element. Very helpful video. You’re right about visual examples. A picture says a thousand words.

Here's an idea to make these q&as more comprehensive!! Can you guys try one time doing a q&a with a live horse out in your arena that way you can do demonstrations with German teaching you Amelia what to do as you guys are doing the q&a that way we can watch and a lot of us learn faster by watching the activity.

That's a cool idea! We've thought of doing something similar before but the service/wifi at the barn isn't good enough right now :(

Maybe that level of the training scale should be called symmetry instead of straightness? And half halts rebalances or commas.
