I moved from Cuba to the UK in 1996, my mother in law introduced me to classic British comedy, I love them all, but open all hours is the one I find myself watching over and over again, I love it, Ronnie Barker was a genius!!.

TV comedy is not what it was. Someone somewhere will be upset and offended today. I’m just glad that there are still some of us who can enjoy these great funny programmes

There is something warming and homely about these pure comedies. It was a play on words , expression on faces... unlike today's " comedies " oh to have the Dr's Tartis and go back to where a cuppa was always on offer, a smile and hello from your neighbour and Sunday was truly a family day.

When Granville runs in with the book saying " there's lots of diseases in here you could use " while Arkwright talking to the nurse always has me roaring...the timing is superb and it's moments like that that have this show standing apart and lasting so well thru time. One of the best episodes in the series over all too!

WHAT amazes me is how different Ronnie Barker looks in Open all Hours and Porridge which were filmed about the same time.
I think porridge was early 70s and open all hours was mid 70s, I think he went strait from porridge to this then did going strait I between

The thing is I have the DVD set of it, but you have to change the DVD all the time this way I don;t worry about which order they are in..

Nabsolutely love the series. The actors are just great with their dialogue delivery. Mirth at its best.
I have a stutter too and this show got it spot on that Arkwright hates it and gets angry when people try to finish his sentences for him and that's also the case with me and probably with everyone else who stutters.

Did anyone ever notice that the title of the show is not accurate, because it is not a 24-hour shop? They do close it down at night, and re-open it in the morning. There is no night shift. It’s still a great show, though!
12 midnight to 9pm closes for 2 hours arkwright lists in in the episode with the robbers in his store well 3hrs and Granville commented after saying a whole hour and a quarter at the ducle vita ( srry idk how to spell it but sounds like it) rather arkwright says i got 9 to 12 and u got 12 to 9
@@MrVavant yes. It makes the title of the show rather inaccurate, since the term “open ALL hours” would indicate a 24hour store.
