This was only 6 months after Freddie died. It was at Wembley Stadium, site of Live Aid, to honor Freddie & raise money to research & fight AIDS. So many huge artists participated..Elton John, Guns n Roses, Robert Plant, George Michael. Many of them were friends of Freddie's & the whole band. Fun fact, Plant said many of them had to change the key they sang in on a lot of the songs cause they couldn't "pull a Freddie". Someone sent you the dvd. There's backstage footage, rehearsals etc. Elton said it was an emotional experience for everyone but especially for Brian, Roger & Deaky. And even so, there were moments of joy & exuberance. And it's amazing to watch the crowd of 72,000 show such love & often sing along.đđżđ
A punch in the face gave David Bowie his famously mismatched eyes. Childhood pal George Underwood says the rock icon thanked him for the decking that happened when they were both romantically interested in the same girl as teenagers.
Exactly what I came here to share Jamie,... David received a serious injury at school in 1962 when his friend George Underwood punched him in the left eye during a fight over a girl. After a series of operations during a four-month hospitalization, his doctors determined that the damage could not be fully repaired and Bowie was left with faulty depth perception and anisocoria (a permanently dilated pupil), which gave a false impression of a change in the iris's color, erroneously suggesting he had heterochromia iridium (one iris a different color to the other); the eye later became one of Bowie's most recognizable features.Despite their altercation, Bowie remained on good terms with Underwood, who went on to create the artwork for Bowie's early albums. :-)
Again George was pouring his heart into it not only for Freddie. He was waiting on test results from his first love. He was singing his gut out for a legend who had died from a horrible disease that his first love may be diagnosed with. Can't you hear the pleading?
@@sheliahtahaalaoui1035 His impassioned and sobering real-talk appeal to the audience before the music started sticks in the memory (and indeed can be found on here with a bit of digging around). Best audio quality is the one on Eagle Rock's official page, but GM's spoken bit is missing from it.
Bowie wrote the song and Freddie made it his own as they were great friends, and I can still feel Freddie's power as Annie and Bowie sing this amazing song and do it perfect justice. Annie was amazing that night and the band were awesome. The love Freddie still commands with people is incredible.
Annie Lennox was so lovely. She was so nervous perfoming with Bowie who was her idol. There's a great scene where she and Dave Stewart took requests by phone for a welfare event and Bowie calls in to joke. She is too nervous to talk and he is just being goofey and joking as always and eventually talking mostly to Dave Stewart and then requesting a song. So nice to see them performing together. Incredible stage energy between the two.
Oh, man. That whole Tribute concert is golden. So many kick-ass performances by some of the greatest names in rock and pop music at the time. It's so good. Another fun fact...Elton John & Axl Rose didn't get along but ended up arm in arm & downright affectionate before their duet was over. Everyone was surprised when at one point, unexpectedly, Bowie dropped to one knee & led the crowd in a prayer. Very moving. Annie Lennox's painted on eye mask is a reference to a Queen video where the model (later Roger's girlfriend) was made up the same way.đđżđ
David Bowie's left eye was injured in a childhood fight with his best friend over a girl and the pupil was permanently dilated as a result of the injury.
Complete heterochromia is a fairly rare condition (in humans) whereby each iris is a distinctly different colour, such as having one blue iris and the other brown. But this isn't why Bowie's eyes looked different. Instead, the unusual appearance of Bowie's eyes were due to a condition called anisocoria.Jan 11, 2016 ïżŒ The Independent âș uk
Both Bowie and Queen performed the original. What you previously saw and thought was a mashup is the original recording, but with the visual mash up of two different gigs.
Freddie Mercury passed away in 1991. In 1992 a Tribute Concert was staged in Freddie's name. This was a charity concert where the money raised was given to the AIDS Awareness Foundation. All the acts gave their time to perform 'Queen's Music'. The concert was held at Wembley Stadium, London (72,000 people packed the stadium). This is the same Stadium where Freddie and Queen out-performed other acts (in 1985) who had given their time for a charity called 'Live-Aid' to 'Feed the Children in Africa'. David Bowie was one of the most important and influential musicians/songwriters of all time he was a star and an artist he had a paralyzed pupil in his left eye because of a punch he received when he was 15 so his eyes looked of different colors. And I find very sad that nobody had the idea to make a tribute concert for him when he died of cancer in 2016. by the way Annie is a great Bowie fan and they knew and appreciated each other. David Bowie suffered from anisocoria after being hit in a fight when he was younger. Both eyes were blue but the left eye was left permanently dilated making it appear it was a different color.
The accident caused Bowieâs left eye appear to change colour to brown due to the injury, whilst his right stayed its natural blue. It went perfectly with his chameleon persona and somehow just added to his presence. He, like George Michael died in 2016 - a bad year for losing musical heroes.

Let's not forget Howie actually co-wrote this song with Mercury / Queen and he performed this when touring in later years with the stunningly brilliant Gail Ann Dorsey. MUST check out one of those videos, Bowie was incandescent performing through the late 90's till his heart attack in 2004 stopped him from touring. Heart broken when he passed...still!
The song "belongs" to Queen. Freddie and the band recorded it with David originally. The video was a mashup but the song was always as you hear(d) it. Annie is paying tribute to Freddie. Doing it proud as anyone can...(no one can duplicate)
I remember watching this on tv when they did it. Under pressure was David Bowie and Freddie Mercury, this was a tribute to Freddie Mercury several months after he past away. It make me even more sad now that David is gone.
Jamel you need to sit down & watch this concert in its entirety. It's too long for a reaction but it was an amazing show with the surviving members of Queen playing with 17 different lead singers to cover Freddie's range. Fantastic lineup including Elton John, Axl Rose, James Hetfield (Metallica), George Michael, David Bowie & a whole lot more
David Bowie has a condition that causes his eye to be a lighter color. The genius that he is, was and always will be. Offering the same to Ms. Annie Lennox! xoXOXox
This was the tribute show for Freddieâs Mercury Phoenix Trust that was formed after he passed away to fight AIDS & support those that are positive. It was also the last time that John Deacon played live with Roger & Brian. It was just too hard for him and he found it hard enough when they were all together as he has a family etc ..... so this is his swan song too .... xx
I enjoyed your reaction to Annie and David singing "Under Pressure". I liked the duet so much, because they are both very theatrical and put their hearts into this tribute to Freddie you can tell. I subscribed. take care
Note John Decan is playing in the band. He stopped playing with the death of Freddy. He never did any tours as the band would have various leads. So it is wonderful to see the whole band minus Freddy for this tribute. Anne and David looked like they were going to the Oscar's. Their style is impeccable.
The original song was done between Queen and David Bowie. This video is from the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert where musicians joined the remaining members, Brian, Roger and John which I believe this was the last time he performed with the band, to honor Freddie's life and legacy. Quite the show!
Queen and David Bowie colaborated for the original version. Bowie turned up at Queen's studio in Montreaux one day and they had a wee jam session, which produced Under Pressure. This one with Annie was at the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert.
Dude, this concert was insane, it was the Freddie tribute, right after he died, there were so many stellar performances. I was a 12 year old kid in West Virginia that was forever changed. You should check out Elton John and Axle Rose from this show! Yes, you read that right, Elton John and Axle Rose!
Hi Jamal, on the beginning of the song you paused the video and commented on Bowie's eyes being different colour, what Bowie actually suffered from is called anisocoria: namely that one pupil was bigger than the other. It means that the iris - the coloured bit - canât react to light in the same way as its fellow, so the area appears to be darker, this means it looks like one eye is a different colour to the other.
@@elodieschindelheim611 a lot of people thought he had two different colours eyes, me too, then I learned in an interview he said that as a teenager he got into a fight and took a hard punch to the eye causing the permanent dilation, hence the âaccidentâ

Just watched Annie Lennox talking about this show, she says she's portraying death as a seductive virus, more or less. Always thought this was a great performance but hearing that makes it just spine-chillingly awesome.
I have seen Queen with Freddie many times. The last time I saw Queen was the Game Tour You have said music unites us. The evidence is in the crowd and these were only the fans able to get in, imagine those watching live on MTV ( when it was actually music television) Stadiums are not filled like this anymore because the talent, music and lyrics are no longer. Thanks
I'm a new subscriber today. I searched Bowie Reactions and I dug your shirt. We all need to be good humans. Not boasting. Just a fanatic. Beginning with Diamond Dogs tour in NY in 1974, I saw Bowie 11 times. I tell you this because I will probably bug you. Not many Bowie reactions, and I like yours. The 2020 RnR Hall 'o Fame is now airing. I watched Trent Reznor / NIN get inducted . Bowie and NIN toured extensively and this is the best song they did together; Hallo Spaceboy. Search for the one that says (Live). This is a rock god 25 years in. He just kept moving and changing.
You need to review Annie Lennox at opening ceremony of 2012 Olympics, where she sang Little Bird. Absolutely outstanding. Annie knows how to put on a show!!
Actually, Freddie and David wrote this together at a studio one day on the fly. There is a doc about it. This is the concert they gave after Freddie had Passed. This is the last time Deaky, bass player, played with Queen. John had played that bass beat at the studio and Freddie and David wrote the song from that. Rip guys.
This version is so moving! And yes, it was a tribute concert made in 1992 to honor Freddie who passed away 6 months earlier, and to raise awareness & money to AIDS. I love it. Annie is deeply influenced by Bowie. She is dressed as "death" on this performance, that's why she has that black outfit and eye makeup and that's why she is "creeping seductively" on David at the end. David Bowie was born with blue eyes, but after a fight over a girl with his childhood friend George Underwood, who punched him on the eye with a ring, one of his pupils became permanently dilated. That injury left him without depth perception on that eye and the dilated pupil created the visual illusion of him having two different colored eyes, one blue, one brown (but both eyes are actually blue). After Freddie's death and the "Outside" tour in 1995, Bowie performed the song at virtually every one of his shows. His live version during his "Reality" tour is super emotional too, his bass player, the great Gail Ann Dorsey, does Freddie's part. And she is AMAZING
Quite enjoyed the impromptu tribute when the crowd at a Greenday concert sang all of Bohemian Rhapsody while waiting for the gig to start, in 2017 more than 25 years after he died. The music just continues to live on. Vid somewhere on YT of course.

George Michael (Amazing "Somebody To Love" performance), Elton John ("Mamaaaa" need i say more), Metallica, Extreme, Def Leppard, Bob Geldof, Spinal Trap, U2, Mango Groove, Guns N' Roses, Tony Iommi, Roger Daltrey, Zucchero, Robert Plant, Paul Young, Seal, Lisa Stansfield, Annie Lennox, David Bowie, Mick Ronson, Ian Hunter, Lisa Minelli and more.
Btw. David Bowie has two eye colours for a medical reason. One eye is darker than the other.
I remember watching this live. Simply amazing.
This is my favorite concert ever. Freddie's tribute concert. For reference, Metallica, Guns N Roses and Def Leppard opened up this show.
With no disrespect to other people in other nations around the globe I'm sooooo proud to be British when I keep seeing and enjoying what we, in this small country, give to the world!
Queen, David Bowie, and the lovely Annie Lennox đ€đ¶đžđđ„đ€©đ„ RIP đFreddie
wow! đ€ this is the 1992 tribute to Freddie Mercury.. Wikipedia says this is the biggest tribute concert for a deceased musician... many great singers were there, you might like react to... George Michael nailing Somebody to love, Seal - who wants to live forever, Metallica's James H - Stone cold crazy, The Extreme did theirs very well too.. Robert Plant, Axl Rose, Elton John, Robert Daltrey, many others..đ
Both Anne and David Bowie....đđwere a force to be reckoned with.
David Bowie wrote this song and performed it with Freddie. It was used by Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby" and sampled by many others.
The song "belongs" to Queen. Freddie and the band recorded it with David originally. The video was a mashup but the song was always as you hear(d) it. Annie is paying tribute to Freddie. Doing it proud as anyone can...(no one can duplicate)
There's a video of Lennox and Bowie rehearsing this, but he had no clue what was going to happen on the big stage. She rocked his eyeballs.
It was just too hard for him and he found it hard enough when they were all together as he has a family etc ..... so this is his swan song too .... xx
Awesome song. LOVE YOU JAMAL
Under Pressure is a Queen song with Bowie guesting. This is a live tribute to Freddie at the concert in his honour.
Eurythmics - Thorn in my side - Would I lie to you - I need a man - Missionary Man - There must be an Angel
when tomorrow comes :)
Great concert tribute for Freddie and to raise awareness and funds for AIDS....đ¶đ”đ¶đ”đ¶đ”
the crowd is great, god bless'em
Hi Jamal, on the beginning of the song you paused the video and commented on Bowie's eyes being different colour, what Bowie actually suffered from is called anisocoria: namely that one pupil was bigger than the other. It means that the iris - the coloured bit - canât react to light in the same way as its fellow, so the area appears to be darker, this means it looks like one eye is a different colour to the other.
His pupil was dilated from an accident. He spoke about if often
laurel Hardy I had been told he had eyes of different colors. He was an amazing performer as well as Mr. Mercury miss miss them!
@@elodieschindelheim611 a lot of people thought he had two different colours eyes, me too, then I learned in an interview he said that as a teenager he got into a fight and took a hard punch to the eye causing the permanent dilation, hence the âaccidentâ
What a great duo- they sound so smooth together. & Annie looks to do a true curtsy! You. Try. This in a full ball gown! Try it in a dress!
That was great thank you big brother I never seen that before or heard about it you're giving the Commodities great shine ! That's your talent DJ just
like Wolfman Jack I love you thank you
Look at the size of that crowd - what a sing-a-long that concert must have been!!!
You really need to see George Michael singing somebody to love, he did Freddie proud!! He rehearsed for 2 weeks before the gig & said he was so nervous & didnât want to let Freddie down.
Also watch his rehearsal, youâll see Bowie in the wings smoking & just being cool
Annie Lennox and Al Greenâs âPut A Little Love in Your Heartâ is another great duet from Annie â„ïž
Annie and Aretha Franklin singing âSisters are doin it for themselvesâ is great as well.
Music hasn't started and I'm already excited!!!
Just watched Annie Lennox talking about this show, she says she's portraying death as a seductive virus, more or less. Always thought this was a great performance but hearing that makes it just spine-chillingly awesome.
Concert for Life. I watched it live. That is when I fell in love with Queen
I have seen Queen with Freddie many times. The last time I saw Queen was the Game Tour
You have said music unites us. The evidence is in the crowd and these were only the fans able to get in, imagine those watching live on MTV ( when it was actually music television)
Stadiums are not filled like this anymore because the talent, music and lyrics are no longer.
Thanks
God how I love them both.
This is better than I remember! Some really great Annie Lenox singing in this, but itâs great all around đž
Two beautiful souls
What a great pairing! Both of these were so androgynous - Annie often came off as masculine, and David feminine. They both pushed so many boundaries.
You need to review Annie Lennox at opening ceremony of 2012 Olympics, where she sang Little Bird. Absolutely outstanding. Annie knows how to put on a show!!
Actually, Freddie and David wrote this together at a studio one day on the fly. There is a doc about it. This is the concert they gave after Freddie had
Passed. This is the last time Deaky, bass player, played with Queen. John had played that bass beat at the studio and Freddie and David wrote the song from that. Rip guys.
I was on holiday in Innsbruck when this concert happened and watched it from start to end. It was a good time.
6:16 Bowie gives his approbation since he wrote this song and that is why Annie Lennox looks to him for approval.
And the audience singing background vocals! How much love can one take? Brilliant! Thank you for sharing! Xod
Wow.... greetings from KIel , germany , Baltic sea â€
David Bowie and his female incarnation, Annie Lennox. So much more than just singer/songwriters.
True originals.
Quite enjoyed the impromptu tribute when the crowd at a Greenday concert sang all of Bohemian Rhapsody while waiting for the gig to start, in 2017 more than 25 years after he died. The music just continues to live on. Vid somewhere on YT of course.
This was the tribute concert held at Wembley Stadium in London, simulcast all over the world. I was working at a little convenience store in Montréal and we had it playing on the radio. Some customers came in just as this song started - we all just stood there listening together, no-one moved until it ended. Then they paid for their cigarettes, we all hugged and they headed out into the night. Thanks for bringing that memory back, Jamel - another great vid, as always!
Somewhere there's a video of a rehearsal of this with Annie and it's amazing. Just a rehearsal!
I'm glad you enjoyed it!!!! I know you're just getting to know both of them and see them perform together! Legendary, both of em! And you as well my brotha!
Jamel - Davidâs eyes Are DIFFERENT COLORS!
Thank you. đ There are so many artists whose music is intertwined over time. I just love that you are doing this. And it is such a joy watching your discovery and making the connections! You are keeping great music alive! đ
WOOOOHHHOOOO!!! I've Been Sharing this Link for MONTHS... They are Royalty, Honoring Royaltyđ and Now He is Gone toođą
Fun watching the Video of David AUDITIONING Annie for this
Those were the days when concerts were spectacular events. It was the best. We used to sleep outside the ticket box office overnight to get good tickets. They were reasonably priced too. $16-25.
