Perhaps you frequently fly between a city pair and have noticed that the type of aircraft you fly on changes from time to time, or the amount of time spent in flight varies significantly. In today’s video, we’ll discuss just a few of the many considerations airlines make when dispatching aircraft on a particular route.

Didn't expect a longer video on this channel as longer videos are usually on the Long-Haul channel, great to see though!

I know at RDU, in 2016, it was rumored the London flight would be upgraded to the 787 from 767. Instead, they opted for the 772 because the aircraft seats more in upper classes, and has a high cargo capacity (both of which are high demands at RDU).

That is true about the wide-bodies from the US east and west coasts. I remember being on a 767 with Delta to New York from Los Angeles The return leg was on an A330

I remember back in 2012-2013 flying back from Florida to Detroit I think it’s been so long and I was only 7 years old we flew on a Boeing 767-300 which was unusual because mostly delta flew 757’s

Considering E-170/175/190/195 fleet but I can’t compete in the mainline. If I want mainline then what is recommended?

0:43 Jetstreams do not always flow West to East. During the monsoon season an easterly jetstream develops from Southeast Asia all the way to Africa.

How does an airline route network work? Does an aircraft fly to one destination all the time until it is retired or does it fly to multiple locations before regurning to the hub airport?

Also figure on the airfields themselves. You aren’t going to get a 767 into LaGuardia, you aren’t going to see an E170 in Telluride. They just don’t fit. Same reason (at least partially) many cities have lost service, the airlines retire the only aircraft capable of serving them. And with cancellation of production of most regional aircraft, there isn’t much between a Caravan and an A220.
