I really like the idea that they go back and play the games that the Nerd reviewed. It's like a different point of view from James and Mike.
Challaxe Luithiadir I know. James does incorporate truth into his reviews though. He has gotten more calm in his reviews and not as energetic. He has gone threw maturity. I remember when he redid Back to the Future and other older reviews, it really did make them better. When they played Friday the 13th, James was taking up for it until it got to a point were they couldn't stand it. Friday the 13th is mediocre at best, but it is playable. You can see where the developers where going with it. Same thing with Silver Surfer, a really hard, mediocre bullethell. I rather play Ikaruga or Gradius because they are better games, but that doesn't mean Silver Surfer shouldn't be picked on, there are other worse games that deserve it..

Challaxe Luithiadir One distinguish difference is that AVGN is generally seventeen minute reviews of the flaws in a game. James and Mike Mondays are twenty to forty minute playthroughs of games. They may point out some flaws, but overall they play to beat a game and not review it.

The one thing I'd change with this game is that I would make the terrain not kill you but instead just block you. Like normal terrain in any game. I'd make it clear which kind of terrain blocks you and which one doesn't.
Any terrain in side scrolling shooter will kill you

Elias R. The terrain in Gradius games is very lethal. Some Gradius games have a "speed-up" stage designed to make you bob and weave terrain.

Pretty much, even though silver surfer is hard as well. There is speed up stage that nearly impossible you too dodge it without rapidly dying in gradius/salamander

I finally beat this game yesterday, it was a grand achievement. After so much stress and aggravation it is over. One of the hardest games I have ever played, without a doubt.

+Jake Sanderson (Film Composer) I beat it too. Since I don't have an NES I used an Emulator with a turbo button but no saving or anything. The day before I played it without the turbo option and I got a cramp in my back and shoulder so that I couldn't move for a day. Had to go to the pharmacy.

I think it's a pretty good ending for a NES game. Cut scenes, pictures. So often you get just a few letters.
On the other hand, the ending is you saying "no" to Galactus, and he doesn't get another word in. I mean, does he just go "eh fine, oh well I kinda wanted that but there's nothing I can do if you refuse to hand it over, it's not like I'm some kind of space god or anything."
BaufenBeast I do not mean the "ending story line", I mean "the sequence of graphical and audio information that is played after you beat the game". I think that's also what James and Mike meant.
I agree. I mean, when you think of a typical NES gaem ending, you don't typically think of this, you typically think of "THIS STORY IS HAPPY END CONGLATURATION".

James says he didn't realize he could shoot backwards with that power up, but when he reviewed this game in 2007 he demonstrated it to us that you could do that. Did he forget? He must have forgotten that he knew that at one point haha

If I can change one thing about this game it would be.
1. Add a health bar ( 3 hit max)
2. Allow your character to touch the walls and survive. (Just as long as that wall has no spikes, fire etc.. )
That was way impressive. I remember beating this game as a kid... No way would I have the patience nowadays.

Looks like you can tell what you can pass through and what you can't depending on whether your bullets pass through or get blocked.
Silver surfer is a lot like gradius where you have to get the power ups in the easier stages and just not die somehow. If you die it's almost impossible to get your power ups later on
I love it when you guys include Bootsy. Not being much of a gamer myself, his skills leave me in awe.
I like this series a lot. It's cool seeing James and Mike play the games the AVGN played, and seeing how similar the experiences are

Love this dude. Bringing in Bootsy is a great idea. Not only does he have interesting stuff to say when he talks, he lets Mike and James have a more organic conversation because they aren't so focused on playing the game.
Cinemassacre: I figured out how you can tell what you can and can't go through in this game. Pay attention to which objects stop your bullets.
And simultaneously pay attention to where the enemies are, and their projectiles...

Probably heard it before but, the reason for the Silver Surfer being on a surf board is that Jack Kirby was sick of drawing space ships... so, he gave his new character a different form of space travel.

I beat this game back in the day, but not gonna lie...it pretty much took months and months of trail and error, memorizing every stage, performing every stage to absolute perfection and of course...lots of stress, cursing and almost taking a hammer to the game a few times. Still...when I beat it finally and saw the ending....it was like climbing K2, only to trip and fall into a frozen turd at the top.
When you start up a Cinemassacre video and Bootsy is sitting on the couch, you know some shit is about to go down.

You can distinguish foreground from background by shooting. If your shot hits an object you will run into it; If it passes through you will too.
I also dont understand why everyone says this game is do shitty. Its like any side scrolling/top down shooter. They genre js difficult in general.

I'm not sure on the exact time of completion, so I've just decided to say 130 min / 2hrs & 10 min about right?? I'm not sure if the taps per second is accurate either, but hey. Mike was close if this is right:

15 x 9 =
135 sec downtime
130 min x 60 = overall time to complete in seconds
7800 seconds - 135 sec downtime =
7665 X 5tps =
