    The Dung needs an airduct from the roof to the turbo, and an expasion tank for the coolant. Also the fuel tank needs to be 4" further back. Additional ducting would help the radiator, but how to build it is a bit trickier than usual.. Lifting the frunk from the hinges for about 2" would be a decent start.

      200 is about normal for Subaru motors, also the OE pump might be struggling to move water to the front radiator setup, could go completely electric relatively easily and have complete control over flow/volume. All in all I’d say it’s healthy and you really don’t have to worry until it’s in the upper 220s and not coming back down

    Hah hah, the Dung Beetle lives!! Considering the outside air temp, I'm surprised it stayed as cool as it did! You may need to make a shroud of sorts to direct more air into that radiator and maybe a stronger fan. And for Pete's sake, get that fuel pump in some rubber mounts. Gawd, that thing is *LOUD!!* You'll definitely need some wheelie bars once you get the kinks out and start making some good power with that Subie motor! Heck, you can pull the front wheels with a well-built 2130 cc bug engine! You can pretty much predict what a Subaru engine will do making close to twice the horsepower!!😂👍 It already sounds pretty healthy up on the pipe, just in the short pull you did! Nice work guys!!😁

    Sure you guys are working out the kinks by now! I’m doing this conversion on my own beetle and what I learnt about the cooling system is with a radiator it’s more important getting air out of the back than in the front of it if that makes sense

    • @ashenthrenchetty7
      @ashenthrenchetty7 Pƙed 2 lety +3

      It makes sense because f more air is leaving the back it creates a negative air pressure inside(ie a vaccume) which inturn sucks more air in from the front

      Yea I'm doing a vr6 swap I'm planning on running radiator up front cut a grill. But put a cylinder fuel cell up on the Frunks "firewall" and weld nuts on the bottom and have a screen insert over the front steering mechanisms. That should do the trick.

    • @tuonglukim8973
      @tuonglukim8973 Pƙed rokem

      @@chrissweetavena Why a VR6? Sounds like a lot of work for minimal returns fitting that large engine in a bug. Seems like you'd have to take the entire firewall out because it's so high... or stick it way out the back.
      I think you'd be better off with the 2.5 flat 6 from a bus, that engine bolts right in the back of a bug, is air-cooled so no need for a radiator, they make bore kits for it... even 4 valve per cylinder kits so you could probably make it way faster..
      If you're after power, a flat 6 with a 3.0 bore kit and 24 valves would blow the doors off a 12 valve 2.8 VR6. Even if they make the same power and torque the air-cooled engine will be much lighter.
      Liquid cooled is cool but then the boxer 4 turbo from a Subaru would fit easier and be an easier swap that's less intrusive to build into your chassis..
      Not knocking btw, it's your car and you should do whatever you want to your stuff off course so if you want to do the LC conversion with the vr6 more power to you... just wondering.

    Old VW guy here -- Seen the Subi swaps a lot --- The best way is to move the rear fire wall forward 10-12" and move the radiator into that new area -- supply some fresh air ducting into that and almost all your cooling problems will be over.... you'll be fighting that front radiator and air bubbles forever... Do a little youtube research and you'll find some Assie guys that have done that to get you some video help.

    One thing that comes to my mind with the cooling is the one thing that many people overlook. I have saw cars that did not have a thermostat in overheat, and run cooler once the thermostat was in just because the thermostat made a resistance that kept the water in the radiator longer. When dealing with temperature problems on custom cars it's very easy to not think about the fact that water has to stay in your radiator long enough to get cool. Not sure what the situation is because you have a rear engine car which I normally would know to be air-cooled but I know you have a radiator up front with a lot of hoses. Whatever your setup is you guys are smart just remember to make sure that your your water is staying in the radiator long enough to get cooled down.

    Need to set the fuel tank back as far as possible or go to a shallower depth but wider tank, the fuel tank is definitely having an effect on the air flow out of the rad.
    Mount the fan as a puller not a pusher unit to draw cold air in....now all that air that's passed through the radiator also has to be funnelled out.
    If you follow the chrome side trim, there's a small triangular area behind the front guard that finishes at the panel gap. I'd cut out this area as much as possible and then weld in some mesh, it'll help with moving air through the rad. allowing it to exhaust.
    If the under bonnet/hood temps. Are still high you could add a small thermo fan, biggest that'll fit, to the inside of the mesh area to force that hot air out. You could set them up to turn on via relays switched to ignition, on a stand alone thematic switch or pinned in to the haltech using an IAT sensor set at the desired temp.
    Fitting a header/coolant expansion tank would also be a worthwhile idea, find one that has the right amount/sized outlets for your application.
    I've personally fitted/used, with fantastic results, vw/Audi expansion tanks with the mounting hardware sourced from a wrecking yard.
