    •  Před 3 lety +6

      @Jack Well, this was shot on 35 mm film, not the best available then, but very close. With 35 mm film of that quality you can get images with little grain even when scanning it at 4K (as the film width increases the grain does the opposite), so it would just need some soft de-noising to do the trick.
      And by that point lenses were very advanced too: just a few years later Stanley Kubrick shot Barry Lyndon, its indoor scenes illuminated only by natural light (although, to be fair, he employed lenses that were developed for the NASA and heavely modified his cameras to accomodate the lenses).
      @Karl Neith That was done by adjusting the depth of fild of the objective of the lense.
      Overall, both analog and digital photography have their pros and cons. Editing in analog is much of a hussle, and when copying and image there will always be a loss of information. The main problem of digital photography resides in the static spacial resolution (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spatial_resolution) of the images (someway alleviated with the more modern upscalling AI's, although they need to be refined; and with the increased resolution of digital cameras (dependent of the scale of the photosensors)) and the artifacts resulted data compression.

    I've listened now to over 35 different treatments of Ludwig's mystical 7th/2nd, and there is no comparison to Herbert's powerful interpretation. I can't remember ever hearing a musician whose eyes were closed give us anything but something special. Music is visceral...why not shut everything out and FEEL the vibrations. I love it.

      It’s probably the most exquisite piece of music I have ever heard in my life. From a Soul/Rock/Pop fan. I adore it and the string arrangement is from the heavens. I usually listen to full 8 minutes odd but this gives anybody an idea of how good classical music is.

    • @elmerglue21
      @elmerglue21 Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@geoffrennox9539 you should listen to the full symphony! Beethoven himself said it was one of his best. The opening is incredible, with an expansive feeling, and the latter two movements are so full of energy and life (needed, I think, after the devastating 2nd movement..) as well as, as Wagner said, the apotheosis of dance…

    A lot of people criticize Karajan for putting himself into the center of these visual performances, but look how much he makes you understand the spirit of the music with his movements and expressions! It is absolutely inspiring and moving to see this vital aspect of music. The tempo is perfect (it's "Allegretto" after all), the melodic phrasing is refined and thoughtful, the atmosphere has almost some kind of divine character ("divine" as a form of emotion that goes beyond simple impetuosity). It's unbelievable how one is able to express so many feelings through music. Recordings like these are the reason I love Beethoven and Karajan. They fit together perfectly.

      People critisize Karajan for a reason we both know. They'll find anything to deny his genius. Yes he was a member of the Nazi party but all of non Jewish Germany's elite was as well. See Heidegger as an other example. Something he never was proud of and he certainly did not know about the Shoha.
