I invited on a successful self-taught developer to share how he became not only a freelance developer, but a nomad as well. It’s rare to hear real success stories like this, especially ones that allow developers to achieve true financial freedom. Whether you want to work for a company or not, he shared tons of advice for all self-taught developers alike. Enjoy!

Solid advice! I've always wondered what the best approach to a dev career would be.
I've considered working at a start-up for more opportunities and scope earlier on.
In my past 11 years as a UI designer, I've only worked for companies. It can take a while to get products out the door plus large teams mean more competition for promotions.

@@DonTheDeveloper The first podcast that really caught my attention when I first got into coding was CodeNewbie.
A few touches I think set them apart in terms of attracting my attention.
      Great intros (mainly):
      - a brief summary of the show
      - quick description of the guest, their experience, what about them is interesting in the episode etc.,
      - just a tad more production value in the intro that was similar to what you might expect from an NPR segment
I think the main thing about that show that makes it easy to click on is you have a sense of what you're getting into from the start. Sometimes I'd click on a show whose title sounded interesting, but whose intro revealed it wasn't for me, and I could quickly move onto the next.
I listen to your pod because it's usually very interesting to me and I expect to learn something. But I might click more if it were easier to get a feel for what to expect from a given episode.
Hope this might lead to some inspiration. Love the show man keep it up!

The best way to learn is to make mistakes. Just do it, never give up and make mistakes in an environment that's save to do so. I first learned this in college for audio engineering and I'm looking forward to using this advice while coding. Hopefully I'll be able to make my own video game within the next 10 or 20 years. (It's an ambitious project.) Maybe I will focus on another smaller project first.

I also got a full stack position once and I still couldn't write a loop! But after that job I saw the light!

I just enjoyed this video, you're doing a great job with your channel.
I guess the main thing ( according to me ) that may hold one back is that if he / she starts working as freelancer, he\she doesn't know how to properly structure the code and the whole job itself.
Or at least this is what I think, that's why before starting freelancing I guess it's better to work with some expert, cuz one can learn all the things related to the "best practices", how to write good code, how to write great OOP, mockup etc.
This is just my personal opinion.
What do you think about this Don ?
