  • We’re giving you a behind the scenes look at the design of the Zoo’s new Asian small-clawed otter habitat!
Follow along with our experts to learn more about this complex and intricate build. Their stunning habitat includes a flowing stream for swimming in, a myriad of places for the otters to nest and hide in - including both real and fabricated tree stumps, and a state-of-the-art indoor area which enables our keepers to provide the very best care to this raft of otters.
Our carnivore team leader Lauren explains, “Some of the aspects of the design that were really important to me were all based on otter behaviour. What is interesting about Asian small-clawed otters is that they're actually more terrestrial and more land-based than many other otters, so one thing that people will notice that there is a large land area.”
If you missed the previous episodes in this series, you can watch them in our 'Science of Care' playlist.
