- The Autumn term has started, can I get a hallelujah from all parents on here? 😂 Back to school means back to school morning routine and remembering everything that needs to be organised in order to get to school on time and with all the special needs equipment that has to come with.
I'm a special needs mum vlogger in the UK with two daughters, one of whom is severely disabled. Elin is a girl with quadriplegic cerebral palsy, she has a feeding tube, is a wheelchair user and as she can't use the toilet independently she is in a nappy / diaper.
Apart from cerebral palsy, Elin has complex medical needs and seizure disorder. She has tonic clonic, or grand mal seizures, partial focal seizures and absence seizures. She is on multiple medications every day, for her spastic muscles, for her reflux disorder and for her epilepsy. Elin is on a blended diet, which we give her through her feeding tube, and I share tips, how to and recipes.
On this channel I share our day to day life, our morning, feeding, medication and bedtime routines, feeding techniques, how Elin communicates, etc. I also showcase the relationship between Elin and her sister Alice, and how they play and interact with each other.

Elin certainly likes to make herself felt doesn’t she? I was wondering, as Elin enjoys your singing so much, whether you’d ever considered recording your voice for her? I was going to say taping, but that just shows my age!! I’m glad you find this vlogging helps you. It helps me through the day too. It makes me chuckle and their antics and your comments.
I'm glad I can help put a smile on your face. I have recorded my voice in the past but honestly, it's just as easy to simply sing to her. Every carer who has ever worked with her started by saying "I don't sing" and every single one was singing within a fortnight 🤣.

HiTova, Elin, Elin had such a great smile, I love seeing her smiling when you ding to her. Shame, she sounds sooo sad, when she cries. I hope you don't mind me asking, when you are feeding Elin, does she feel the food going into her stomach? Please forgive me, if the question, is too personal. Hi Cheryl, please do keep asking questions like these. I think it's important to answer them (and it gives me fab ideas for vlogs). Yes, she definitely feels the food going into her stomach and she somehow tastes it too. I have a friend with a feeding tube who tells me she can taste everything, and Elin certainly reacts differently to different flavours. I also think she notices different textures in food. Now she has the mic-key button we can give her much thicker blends, think baby purèe consistency rather than formula consistency, and she vomits a lot less. I think the thicker food settles in her tummy better.

How long does it take to feed Elin?
It really depends on the day. Today lunch only took 20 minutes, other days it takes 40.
Omg I am not trying to be rude but my mind was asking when she open her mouth is it because she is breathing or smiling and she need a towel cuz she might throw up right please tell me and can u tell me when is her birthday .:-)
Oh that's ok, I really don't mind the questions 🙂.
The towel is to catch any vomit so I don't have to change all her clothes and clean the wheelchair up every morning. Her mouth movements are, erm, well, part of how she acts. Sometimes it's smiles, sometimes it's concentration, sometimes it's because she's working up to another vomit....

There's a time when doors open but the whole process of getting all pupils in and managing the school transports etc take a while so we have a flexible window.

I love how you did her hair! Can they not give her meds to help with her vomiting all the time? Wonderful video.
She is on the only reflux medicine still available, and when things are really bad we have an anti-emetic to give her. But sadly the only real solution to the vomiting is surgery and it's a procedure with very dodgy odds for success.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. If you refer to how she holds her hands that is fairly typical for the kind of cerebral palsy she has.
