My daughter and I backpacked into a primitive camping site.
Yes, it was all booked up except the handicap spot. They were not allowed to book it till closing. At 4:45, they allowed us to book the handicap spot.
Of course, all booked up, but we were the only ones at the site. All no shows.
It was an awesome experience and would love to camp out, again.

i love staying down towards jackson hole wyoming and then drive to yellowstone. been there 15 times.
Great drive. The South end will be under construction this year. Jackson Hole was packed last year.
Wow, huge area , Good info. , how are gas prices in the area ?
They are high like everywhere else. But there are gas stations within the Park.

i have stayed at colter campground in cook city. it is a bit of a little drive from there to yellowstone national park. there is quit a bit of free camping just south of yellow stone in wyoming.
Only 5 miles from the entrance. Coulter is a nice campground. There are a few sites on the Chief Joseph Hwy also coming up from Cody.
