Spray paint gets a bad reputation for being flaky, but that's usually a result of poor prep work before painting, and for finished plastics like the one's in your car's interior, that prep work is essential to a good paint job.
Getting good results is actually really easy, it just requires a little extra work and using primer and clear along with whatever paint you intend to use.

This man woke up one day and chose "chill Jamaican hood" as his lifestyle
I don’t even know what that means, but that honestly had me cracking up!
Looks awesome, especially around the gauges!
Thanks man! Really happy with how it turned out, and had a lot of fun doing it
Thanks bro for the info about spray painting keep up the great work
Glad you found it helpful! Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave some feedback!
This is one of the best spray painting tutorials I've seen. Well done my friend! Thanks!
Thanks man I really appreciate that! Just trying to help folks get some decent results
Sage advice from such a young man
👍😎🤙
I appreciate that! I'm not quite as young as I look, but I'll definitely still take it while I can
Pumped to see you finally uploading again, Hope you can make more content consistent in the future
Maaan you and me both! I’m trying to develop a smoother workflow so that they don’t take so long. I really appreciate the patience tho!
Imma figure out the consistency formula!!
This was such a dope explanation and process breakdown my dude. I've got an 08 xB myself and I'm looking at finally getting some interior pieces touched up the same color as my wrap (glossy lime green).
Got yourself another subscriber! 👏🏿
Thanks! I just noticed spray painting gets a bad reputation (mostly because of the abundance of poor paint jobs), and wanted to help people get the best results if they decided to go this route.
For a quick lil update, work was done about 2 years ago, and other than a few spots that got banged up, the paint is still holding up super nice.
Good luck on your project, and thanks for the sub!
You're a very good teacher! Thanks for the tutorial! I feel a lot better about spray painting my van interior now! 😊👍
Thank you so much! That means a lot! I’m just trying to share what I know! If you have any questions during the process, please don’t hesitate to ask. Good luck with your van’s interior!
@@DaBadNewz Thank you! That's an exceptionally kind offer!
Great video! Your are extremely articulate in you explanations. Much love!
Thank you for that! I put some effort into trying to make sure I was as clear as I could be
@@DaBadNewz Good Job!
Great info! Thanks.
Happy to help! Thanks for checking it out
very helpful thank you
Glad you found it helpful!
Thanks for the feedback
This is some good shit, that green looks very sleek, it also pops siiiiick!
Thanks man! Just wait until I actually know what I’m doing!
That ball cap though!
Thank you!! That one been in the collection for a minute!
Finally finished everything, I spray painted everything glossy black and it looks so much better, but there were a few imperfections with the stuff I couldn’t easily take off, transmission, ac nobs, right fan cover thingy, etc. So it looks good but it could look better lol. If I wasn’t so busy and lazy with my editing I would edit the video abt it and the whole process but yk lol
Yea I had similar issues on the hard to remove pieces. Up close there are some scratches and imperfections, but it comes with the territory!
Glad it worked out for you!
And I absolutely understand the editing struggle! Just do what you can, when you can, and little by little it will get done when it’s ready
Good videos bro. I bought a 2012 Scion XB I'm doing a full interior restore. Sound deadening and interior paint. I'm using Colorbond paint made for interior parts. I'm stealthing it out all black. The silver pieces around the gear shifter I wet sanded with 1200 Grit and used krylon fusion paint which turned out amazing. All of the upper parts will be all black instead of grey. I also put in a black headliner. I am going to replace the factory stereo with an alpine ILX-650. I bought this model because it's a stick shift which is going away. Removing the entire dash and front was a challenge as there is not a lot of information out there. I'm also gonna add RGB lighting on the inside that will also follow the music. Like you said, with all the sound deadening material it's not going to be a race box, but a bass box. LOL I haven't decided on a proper amp or speaker upgrades yet.
Thanks man! I bet that actual interior paint is gonna be nice. I’m thinking about blacking out all the grey too, it just looks bad with the green and black now. I still have yet to fully remove the dash, but it needs to come out next. Sounds like you’re gonna have a pretty dope build!
Color is poppN!
Thanks! It's still holding up pretty good about 2 years later
just came across your channel. great video. now if you want to not paint on a table and get a better result you can get some old wire coat hangers and hang them from something so you don't tilt your can. and paint is safe to touch after 48 hours but it can take up to 30 days to completely cure. but your work looks great.
Thanks man!
And yea I remember wanting to hang stuff at the time, but didn’t really have a means to do so. Definitely going to be trying that out next time, thanks for the tip!
Save all you subwoofer cardboard boxes to use as spray paint props plus you can psint your plastic pises inside a big cardboard box to keep overspray down if you inside. I save alot of cardboard boxes lol when I spray paint. Plus krylon fusion is made for plastic it works great after prep.
That’s not a bad idea at all to help cut down on the wind for outdoor painting! And yea I always keep sturdy cardboard for all kinds of stuff around the garage.
And I never tried that Krylon yet, but I’m always checking out what colors they got available. Might have to try them out some time.
Thanks for your suggestions!
How did you get the right most fan out to spray-paint the outside yk like how you did. I have all the pry tools but it’s very difficult, could be that I’m just 17 and not smart enough but I got all the other ones to work.
Nah honestly that one is just a bitch! I ended up buying a stubby screwdriver and also a tiny right angle screwdriver and just pulled the dash up enough to get my hand in there. It was not comfortable, but it’s not impossible.
You kinda just wedge you hand in there and do it blind…or you take off the dash, but who has time for that?
Sorry I couldn’t be more informative, that one is just really a pain.
Good luck!
@@DaBadNewz I’m going to try that but if I can’t I might just put duct tape all around it and just spray paint it while it’s on the car after I sand it down, I’ll lyk if it works lol
Hahahaha hey you gotta do what you gotta do! Just make sure you let it air out plenty if it comes to that
My interior is black. I have a white car and I want to change the interior to beige do you think I can do that? I want to swap out the carpet and roof and seats with beige and repair the door and dashboard interior
That is 100% possible! (It IS quite a bit of work, but I think the results are worth it if they’re something you really want). Getting the seats, floor, and headliner reupholstered are all just a matter of budget/time and fixing up and changing the color of the plastics is all just good prep work and taking your time on the painting.
It’s very doable, and you have options about how you go about it. Hope it works out for you!
I just bought primer, clear, sand paper, and paint and plan on doing this in my TC. Has your paint job you did held up good this far?
As long as you take your time, and then let it dry for a few days before you touch it, it should be good for a while. Mine is still holding strong, even in the areas that get used. Good luck with yours!
@@DaBadNewz thank you man, definitely earned my follow and support. I spent like $80.00 in supply for this. But hopefully the grit I got on the sanding will be good. Someone recommend I used 5000 grit. But if you have a different preference please do let me know.
5000 would be good for after you spray the clear (to polish it up for the extra shine). Tbh I never even did that part. For sanding the pieces before you paint, i use 400 grit most of the time. Basically just want it evenly scuffed up. If you go too low, you’ll put scratches, but if it’s too high then it wont really do what you need it to.
Hope this helps! And thanks for the follow!
Wad up
What’s up man?! Hope things been well out there!
How’s your sound-deadening holding up?
Hanging in there just fine! Tbh I haven’t looked at the roof in a while, but I’m taking the lack of sagging as a good sign.
Everywhere else and where I can actually see it it’s doing great! Still very much in favor!
@@DaBadNewzAny tips on sound deadening? Thinking of adding a little to the box to cut some road noise
I would definitely recommend it! I have a couple videos of the process (doing the doors, floor, and roof).
You don’t need to completely cover an area for it to make a noticeable difference.
And I definitely recommend getting a roller (I would get either one with bearings OR a metal roller). Just makes the process much easier.
@@DaBadNewz thanks man is there an area you think will make the most difference? Like if you had to choose one?
Really depends on the car. In mine, the whole car was noisy from the jump, so everywhere needed a bit, but I started with the doors to try to minimize the road noise a bit.
When I added the sub, the roof was vibrating so loud you could hear it over the bass sometimes, so that was what I addressed next.
You kinda just need to listen around to what is shaking the worse and work from there.
But be warned! Chasing rattles literally never ends! Just work from worst offenders first.
Good luck man!
