- 1930s COMPRESSION AND VACUUM TESTER RESTORATION. Joseph Weidenhoff. Art Deco Style . This was definitely a challenge to restore. It took several months to complete this restoration. It was a type of restoration that nothing went right. It was definitely a challenge. It seemed totally impossible. This company produced engine testing equipment from the 1930s to the 1950s and was purchased by snap on in the 1950s. I sent the severely oxidated and damaged Chrome pieces to Red's Parts Attic in Texas to be rechromed. I would definitely recommend them to anyone that has parts that need to be rechromed. The results of the rechroming are spectacular. This is their website www.redspartsattic.com

Don’t you just love Art Deco . A stunning era that has yet to be repeated . Great job
The OCD side of me smiled when you aligned the slots of your screws all in the same direction. My wife thinks I'm nuts because I did that to all the switch plates and receptacle covers in our home. I had to explain to her that that's the way God intended things to be and I was only making sure things were straight so the universe didn't unravel. 🤪
Beautiful job. Thanks for sharing.
Yes I did notice that as well. My OCD would have aligned them vertically though. Same idea, different OCD! lol
Any good electrician will line the screws up vertically on all wall plates when wiring a house.
I once cherry picked through about 20 sets of 1911 grip screws and then shimmed them to align with the grip angle, so I'm with you.
Here, I was thinking I was the only one that noticed that detail. Silly me !
Richard Bee ...a good electrician will only tighten wallplate screws to the point that it hold the plate securely, without distorting the shape of the wallplate... Never seen one align all the screws in the same orientation because the torque needed is a variable...
Beautiful work, it would be cool to see it function again.
Outstanding work. The unit is powered by the car being tested, hence no battery or power cord needed. Since no moving parts, it probably works fine. Check it on a 6v ignition. I'll bet the tube still works. Kind of like restoring an antique airplane--if you don't fly it, all you have is a full-scale model. Best wishes.
Since it is compression and vacuum, it does not need any power
Absolutely beautiful!!! I see it hooked up to a black red and chrome hotrod!!!
You should show it operating after restoration.
It won't be operating after this restoration. The electonics in it will most certainly have failed, especially the caps. Without replacing them for new ones, this device won't function.
There are a minimum amount of parts... The big silver capacitor can be gutted and a modern cap can be inserted inside so the device maintains the look. The resistors can be replaced as well. The vacuum tube looks like some sort of spark-gap device and might be difficult to replace if this one is bad.
Vintage 30's (and older) radios use the same components and there's plenty of videos on YT showing their ressurection, including the woodwork! Do a search for Philco & see what you get...
@@zman4150 that's not a capacitor it's a coil, it's a spark tester and the valve provides the switching to make a rapid spark
Also you'd need an old engine, the compression only went to about 120lbs, which was good 80 years ago, A modern engine about 190 and would ruin the gauge
@@jusb1066 With a simple syringe you can do both tests, vacuum and compression. just to show that the instruments work.
Wow, beautiful work! A pleasure to watch!
WOW you have done a top notch restoration on this rare automotive tool. My hat is off to you BRAVO.
Unbelievable job of restoration. Better than new, I'm sure, especially with new chrome plating of the trim. Thanks for a great video.
A salute to your perseverance. WELL DONE!!!
It may have been a pain-in-the-butt to restore, but WOW! Fantastic! I loved the attention to detail, including down to which direction the screw slots aligned! Great work!
Great video! I did not think it possible for this dreadfully degraded old device to come out looking so very fine.
Stunning! What a beautiful job on equally beautiful machine. 💕
Incrível, ótimo serviço, parabéns.
Definitely one of the best restorations/videos i have seen; hats off; special salute to the screws slot alignments; that is certainly admirable.
What a great restoration. This, to me, is your best so far.
That turned out amazing 🔥
Real nice restoration.
Wow❗ what a transformation. Love it.
I really can't add anything that hasn't been said. Its a piece of history that young people can look at and compare to todays tools of trade. Nice job
I tip my hat to your work. VERY nice job! Love these vids!!!
Beyond beautiful!!!
Beautiful bro, it's awesome. Great job
Awesome job - I loved the final result and the intro.
I love it . If it was mine, it would be on the shelf ready to use (next to the OBD reader!) i love finding and using old cool tools.
This is absolutely one of best restoration i have seen! That first immage i would say: did you found it on the moon? The end result is nostalgic with a kiss!
Thanks I really appreciate that
Invest in a miniature blaster is my advice . Extremely relaxing
Awsome job. Love it
The art deco features are gorgeous, and those gauges! Very nicely done!
Nicely done
Fantastic job!
Beautiful! Fantastic Restoration! 😃👏🏻
awesome restoration man !
the way the screws were done . . . perfect. it keeps everything level and in order. if it were vertical then it would feel as if everything would be up on end, and out of control.
3000 thumbs up !!
Hi Get Go Tv👋👋👋very good restoration 👍👍👍
Красивая вещь получилась !
Спасибо за видео !
Well I am not sure if this...whatever it is, works, but you sure made it look amazing. Thumbs Up for your efforts!
I have liked a lot of your videos, this one moved into 1st place.🙂
that turned out amazing!
Unbelievable and amazing restoration. 😀
I had a screwdriver solid with wood inside the casting. My favorite but lost years ago... anyway beautiful paint and rechroming georgous.
Excellent restoration job!
Mechanic side : perfect
Electronic side : ???
Excelente trabajo felicidades!
Saludos desde Tijuana Baja California, Gracias por compartir.
Very good job brother
Wow, very nice restoration ! Thanks
Great restoration !!
A beautiful restoration GetGoTV. Looking at the comments below I now know why you wrote "Impossible Restoration" as it doesn't actually work but as a a piece of history to look at 'Beautiful'
Great job!
Great video and work 👍👍
now that is one nice looking random machine that i would never use but love to have.
I truly love this unit!
Beautiful..have to appreciate such things because it’s been a long time since things were manufactured that way..all cheap LED displays & plastic shite nowadays..good job dude 😁🙏🏻
Nothing is impossible, as you wouldn't have been able to do it. And a fine job you have made of this.
Invest in a sand-blaster, best tool for restoration ever.
Beautiful!
Great job.
AWESOME !!!!
Curious painting technique😁
Отличная работа!
Nice restration!
Excelente trabalho, primoroso. Parabéns 🇧🇷
Great Job !!!.
Looks very nice. Was it possible to restore these tester working too. It would be interessting to see, how it works. If not, you safed a nice part of historicle design.
A Cracking job 👍🏅
Excelente trabajo, lo felicito
Bon bouleau j’aurais jamais cru que c’était possible de le récupérer aussi bien 👍
Very well done !
Very nice job, does it work? what is it for? Thanks for sharing.
Excellent 👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
So very impressed with this restoration right down to the lined up screw slots. Your attention to detail is great. I subbed you.
At 6:53 I caught myself holding my breath as you ran the wire wheel through the rust build-up. Haha!
It was a bit lazy.
@@DaleDix I was thinking more along the lines of the plume of rust that shot out. Yuck!
I didn't think it would be possible. Nice job.
Does it work?
Thanks for the video.
Quem disse que era impossível restaurar? Ficou muito bom.
Onee este aparelho estava? No fundo do mar? Um belo trabalho. Parabens!!!!
Parabéns pelo primor de restauração!
Dang. Awesome
I like the Art Deco handle.
looks great
De toute beauté! Mais... ça a du coûter cher! Merci!
Nice!
Nice item to restore! Would be cool to do a collaboration with Mr Carlson's Lab and have him do the electrical explanation and restoration and demo usage.
yes
Veery nice restoration, better than new! That tube which resembles a radio tube seems to have a spark gap inside to test coil high voltage, hence the two small metal balls inside. And I agree with some posters here: The capacitors need replacement and resistors have to be measured for correct value. It could even work then..
Nice restoration
Wow amazing
Still figuring out how it works, power wise....does the plug lead connect into the bakelite connector ?
very good
Great job and patience
I love how this bloke doesn't have all the fancy goucci gear and is still able to produce superb results
You mean one of those new fangled $100 blast cabinets? He spent more on Dremel wire brushes than a Harbor Freight cabinet would have cost...It was like seeing someone clean a gymnasium floor with a tooth brush. Totally unnecessary. .Sent the parts off to be rechromed..And don't tell me the red bezels came out looking like that from rattle can spray paint....It looks great but there was waaay to much that was done that wasn't shown in the video to assume it was all refurbed in house. Me thinks there is a little deception about the complete process...But like I said, it looks great however it was done. I guess that's the bottom line.
excelente trabajo Saludos desde Argentina
Nice resto and interesting device. Very nostalgic. I guess the “tube” was to see the spark from the ignition lead attached to the brown nipple. In the early years mechanics were like wizards, using equipment that looked like it was from Dr. Frankenstein’s lab. “Good” for a compression test was 95-120 psi. I bet a lot of those old flatties came a little short of that mark. Nice revenue generator for the shop using the device.
You are awesome !
good job
very impressed
That would look cool in a glass case (along with other restored devices) in the waiting room of a Hot Rod repair and restoration shop.
It would indeed..or in my home garage..lol 😉👍
Stupendo !!!
10 out of 10
Muy buena restauración!... felicidades!... pero que hace ése aparato?
It's 1931 in Chicago. Scarface Al needs to have his armored Model A serviced. He sends Vinnie the Face and Three-Fingered Louie to take care of it. The mechanic (who owes Al a favor) would have used this on the engine.
I agree with Gabrel . . . however you did a pretty good job on the unit.
super impressive.
