Amazing video! Love learning more about the roasting process and what it can do to your final experience.

You mention 425 as a charge temp, but the log window in the upper right shows 409 and I don't see 425 on any of the lines on the graph or the BT or ET readout in the little dark box in the lower right hand corner of the graph. Are the digital readouts being sent to the computer different than what is shown on the control panel? I ask because last weekend I did my first two (6 lb) roasts on a Mill City 10 kg that I will be renting time on. We charged at 420 BT, which some say is too high. I need to somehow transfer profiles from my Artisan 3e fluid bed air roaster to the Mill City, since I have no sample drum roaster, so I'm trying to watch your roast along videos to get an idea on how to do that.

We usually charge based on the machine temperature controller displayed on the control panel. This is a center line thermocouple and least affected by changes in airflow. The BT reading is about 15F lower on this machine. We've relatively recently upgraded the temperature controller to add this reading to our logging system.

@@MillCityRoastersMN Is the temp controller reading logged in all the new 2kg machines being sold now? I will likely need to upgrade to a bigger roaster that I can keep for later profile roasting. If the 2kg can do a 300g charge, that would work for most of my sample roast needs.

For 5 kilos do you recommend the same charge time or higher?

Too many variables to provide a real answer. Register for class and we'll teach you how to figure it out for any coffee on any roaster for any batch size.
