- Learn how to make a very simple but effective Prophet patch with J3PO that will give you lots of possibilities for being expressive on the instrument! "Prophet Brass" is inspired by good friend Nicholas Semrad's (Cory Henry, Lauryn Hill, The Lesson) concept. This sound can be heard on many of J3PO's productions and is constantly used in live performance settings.
Every time I need to make a brass patch, I watch your video. Thanks a bunch!
@4:12 really reminded me of the keyboard sound of "Everything In Its Place" by Radiohead off Kid A. Really nice sound.
Thank you! Those are def the "Everything In Its Place" chords ;)
Amazing how when something familiar is played it put a patch like this into context. Soon as I heard them chords your ears prick up :P
Arh... I was about to write the same! :-) :-)
that section was kind of mind-blowingly awesome!
@@carstencolberg1427 Same thing x)
Thanks for this simple tutorial! Great sound!
JuLIAN YOU THE PROPHET!!!! THE CHORDS THE SOUND DESIGN> YOU HAVE IT ALL ON LOCKDOWN.. Thanx Dude!!!
Thanks for putting these vids together.
Thank you for this tutorial, I'll definitely try recreating it in Arturia's Prophet VST!
This sound is what made me love your playing, since I found you through The Lesson GK - The Weekend!
How did it go? I don't own a Pro6 but interested to see how close you managed to get in sound
Thank you so much for sharing! You are amazing.

Hello j3po I follow all your tutorials and I really love the style of harmonizing, I am learning a lot with you, it is very inspiring, so much so that I bought the Prophet 8 used in very good condition, I want to get that brass sound with that soft and nuanced touch that have you got, how could you help me? Thanks in advance ...
Cool stuff! Thanx!
You got it! Thanks for watching. :)
Is it possible to recreate the brass part in Blue Monday by New Order with this synthesizer? I read somewhere that they used a Prophet 5 for the brass part (right around the beginning of the lyrics "To treat my like you do".
Iike.ur pianos ur nicrand good playing that very nice boss
A e s t h e t i c synth
man u made me buy prophet 6
what kind of sustain pedal do you use? im going to buy a prophet cuz of your videos!!!
woauh! so simple and sound so good! better than the presests onboard ;)
great! I'm glad it's working for you! :)
Wow! Love the warmth in the filter. Can you tell me how I can get into those lovely chords you are using?
Thank you! And yes...I'm actually putting out a tutorial very soon that has an exercise for coming up with these types of progressions. :)
Business Intelligence and Analytics nice! Can't wait :)
J3PO you done this tutorial yet? :)
one of those sounds like the brass from 'The Terminator main title theme'
Sound, and also your play are so so good!!
That sound is a lot used in many production, but... What is the true effect name?
It’s a brass synth bro
Hey! Great work, i love this sound. Im currently debating whether to get the Prophet 6 or the new Rev2. On paper the Rev2 seems so much better (less expensive, more voices, more modulation capabilities, etc) but theres just something about the P6 that seems so inviting. I don't know if its the VCO sound or it's simple interface, but I was wondering what your suggestion would be? For you, are there things about the P6 that you wouldn't trade for the Rev2's extra capabilities? Or do you think the Rev2 is the smarter choice?
Thank you!
The '08 and the new Rev2 are amazing synths and offer more modulation options than the P6. However, the simplicity and lushness of the all analog P6 is what attracted me to it at first. I'd actually love to have both. You can't really go wrong with either. If you're an analog purist, go with the P6. If you want some more options, go with the Rev2. Hope that helps!
Thanks for your thoughts man! Do you also own an OB6?
I do. It's an amazing synth as well. Having it and the P6 together is a great combination. It's like having a Rhodes and a Wurlitzer, or a Strat and Les Paul. If you know how to use the P6, you can easily switch to the OB-6.
Damn, I'm at such a crossroads lol...I know I'd be happy with any of them but I can only afford one and I'm being so indecisive
get one and try it out! As I said...you can't go wrong with any of those.
Will you program he intro sound to let it whip Daz band?
@J3PO can the dave smith rev2 also make these super beautiful brass sounds ? . i find the 16 voice more interesting and therefore can not decide what i should buy
I've had the rev2, no it can't. Prophet 6 sounds a lot warmer and richer. Rev 2 can do a lot of stuff but only sounds good on a small portion vs the Prophet 6. Much happier with the prophet 6.
@@quarkyzarky I disagree... I own a rev 2. It is more capable than the prophet 6. More options... the routing can be difficult, but there is definitely a way to get the tones you want. Not as easy as creating on prophet 6 tho
Not the slightest bit inspired by Nick Semrad? ;) Love this patch. I do something very similar but I love to add some pan spread, which gives a lush depth if you play arpeggiated chords.
Nick is a good friend! I filled in for him for the band Gentei Kaijo (The Lesson) when he left to go to LA. My goal was to learn some of his concepts so that I could fit into the band! I love pan spread, too, in certain situations.
@@j3po784 Curious, what situations do you like pan spread for?
👌✨✨👌
Is there any pretty similar VST to it?
Hey! Do you think the prophet 6 could recreate the 24k magic by Bruno mars brass synth sound ?
Absolutely, all the synth stuff including the bass patches.
J3PO do you think you could do a little demo showcasing how to create that sound ? Like a little tutorial for the brass and bass sound ? All the filters and mods ? I'll email money transfer you or PayPal you for your time . Not joking
I just grabbed the prophet 6 and I got a sub 37 too.. could you do the bass on the moog ? Up to you brother , if you got the time and are interested in a few extra bucks , let me know
Once I get back to my studio in a couple weeks after this run of gigs, let's get in touch! :) Congrats on the Prophet 6 and Sub 37! Two AMAZING instruments...you're going to have so much fun.
How will it sound if we layer this with piano??? Will it kinda become lush ? Plz make some vids on some cool layers ...😊
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE MAKE A VST PATCH OF THIS PLEASE !!!
Really nice, nice playing. I doesn't sound as good here though :S :)
@ 0:22 - Somewhere Joe Zawinul is smiling...
Are you running this clean here? My patch sounds a little off. Working with reverb?
Yes, there is a touch of reverb! But that's about it. Some compression on the way out of the audio for mastering the tutorial audio for CZcams ;)
Nice simple patch ! A little tweak : a second OSC a little detune and/or a little Slop, not full volume.
