@@BYLRPhil You can't find an 03 utv so that is not a fair comparison, but you can find a 2014 for less than 5k. With regards to price of course the best ones are going to be expensive, the ones from back in the day were way cheaper, but they were slower, less reliable, less capable, and most people are looking at sxs's with four doors which also increases price by 20%

Sure the side by side is more capable at scampering along in tight places, but when the temp drops, the snow and rain hit or it is blistering hot, I would rather be in an enclosed cab. ;) This fire road is hardly dramatic enough to warrant a side by side.

So is a 2-door Jeep Wrangler "unstoppable," and HAS been -- for decades! ;-)
Of course, NO vehicle is 100% "unstoppable" but the Wrangle isn't bested by the Bronco except on-paper...which won't last long when next model Jeeps beat it on-paper as well, and so the Bronco vs. Jeep see-saw/back & forth will continue into the future.
IMO, in the real world they are pretty much equal capability/performance-wise, and likely will continue to be, with neither of them being clearly/substantially dominant. OR "better" in-general than the other.

But like I said, I'm not in the mid-size SUV segment as I have a Gladiator Rubicon, and there's NO competition for it presently or for some time, given Ford's default.

One of my buddies in Quebec, Canada (where Can-Am is headquartered) just saw on the trails in the Laurentian mountains a high end FACTORY TEST MULE Maverick X3r with a FULLY-ELECTRIC skateboard motor setup. He took photos but hasn't shared yet but he did say it was was the quietest side-by-side he has EVER HEARD !!!!! it also had PHENOMENAL acceleration that just blew waaaaaaaaay ahead of his own fast Maverick in mere seconds!
And range-wise, he was hearing from others nearby of at least 250 Miles (402 km) to as much as 280 miles total driving range with the largest skateboard battery configurations! That is TWICE the range of the gas models! They must be using the fancy new high-power LG Li-Ion cells and filling the entire back and underside with batteries in order to get that sort of range!
So it DOES LOOK LIKE Can-Am is working on an all-electric Maverick in the great Canadian north woodlands and it looked pretty finished, so I would say 18 months to two years to retail production for the all-electric Can-Am Maverick AND probably also all-electric versions of the Can-Am Defender 4x4 and 6x6 models with the truck bed!

Because that is LITERALLY the point. To test the vehicles capabilities... I mean isn't that what y'all are..? A vehicle reviewing and TESTING channel..? And sure. Offroading is gonna damage your vehicle. But you can be careful and still test the vehicles actual capabilities.

In terms of actual OFF-ROAD ability the Can-Am Maverick WINS HANDS DOWN!
The ONLY issue I have with it is its range is only 125 miles (201 km) which basically SUCKS!
I would have actually brought the Can-Am Defender Max Limited with the fully enclosed (and WARM!) cab, the truck-like bed in the back AND I can put in an extra in-bed fuel tank for huge driving range!
This is an interesting demo but they need to compare the high-altitude performance of Ford F150 RAPTOR, Ford Bronco, RAM TRX, Toyota TRD Pro, Nissan Frontier Pro4x and Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison Edition trucks ALL using the same tires (Goodyear Duratracs or Nitto Ridge Grapplers) including total driving range to empty AND THEN relegate the Can-Am to a Razr and Honda comparison INCLUDING total driving range with and without an IN-BED EXTRA FUEL TANK (120 litres aka 45 gallons minimum extra tank size).
The above noted comparison types are MUCH MORE usable by the average user than this video!

One thing to add is you have comforts in the Bronco or Jeep that you don't get in the Maveric. Like HVAC. Or protection if it starts snowing, raining, etc. Maveric is probably still the cheapest option, but I'm sure it's not super cheap. So tough one.

I'm curious how much of this trail I could do in a 4 cylinder raisin body taco. I wish you would have kept that Tacoma for reference or just buy a taco and the only mods are dirt cheap mods we can do at home, spacer lift, tires, steel rims. Seeing how much of this trail is a challenge for a cheap 4 cylinder 4x4 truck for reference. Considering it's 13k ft elevation and most of the vehicles you take there are boosted or very powerful regardless.

I’m in the market for a badass truck or SUV. But I can also be patient while waiting for some of these releases.
Can the new 2022 Tundra TRD Pro handle this course? How about current gen Taco? Would a Raptor handle this course about the same as the TRX did? Is the new Hummer way too wide for this course? Is the new Hummer wider than the TRX?
(curious to see the Raptor R and also to see what the next gen Taco TRD Pro will look like based on the new Tundra)

    • @StarGateSG7
      @StarGateSG7 Před 2 lety

Both the NEW and previous generation Toyota Tundra AND Tacoma TRD Pros can and will be able to handle this terrain quite easily SO LONG you put on 33 or 35 inch tires such as Goodyear Duratracs or Nitto Ridge Grapplers!
      No problem at all!
AND ... even the Ford F150 Tremor can do it with 35 inch tires and a lift on it!
