    Thank you so much for these videos. My synco flame motor was going bad as flames were "frozen" . I disconnected the brown wire to the flame circuit on the circuit board. Also cleaned my fan good. Tested and is working! Put all screws back in and back into cabinet. My flames won't roll like a real fire, but it's ok . My 91 year old dad mostly uses for the heater. Lights still give the look of a fire, just not flames rolling. Thanks so much for your help.

    I found one of these curbside today. It is very clean, doesn't power on, and has no tension in the reset button. I am assuming at this moment that the button needs to be replaced. But I've only been diagnosing the problem for 15 minutes so far. I haven't even taken it apart yet. This video is very helpful regardless. Thank you

    I have 2 of these heat surge units both 2008 model year bought them both at an estate sale for $75 for both they both work. But have some minor issues this video is very helpful I will contact Dave for parts these units are worth fixing I believe there very nice

  • @scottfirman
    @scottfirman Před 5 lety +2

    I will be putting a dust filter on my unit. A filter is certainly much cheaper than replacing a blower motor. I have already repaired two of those stand alone units . I was told there were no user replacable parts inside but its funny because I found a place that sells all the parts needed. The price has gone down greatly on those smaller portable units anyways. As you stated, Dust, hair( dog hair) can cause these units to go into a thermal shut down. I have had that happen several times. A thick matt of dog hair is usually covering the intake.

    • @PhaedraDarwish
      @PhaedraDarwish Před 7 měsíci

      So do you just have to blow out the fan and clean or do you have to replace a part

    • @scottfirman
      @scottfirman Před 7 měsíci

      @PhaedraDarwish As with any normal maintenance routine, you should blow out the unit, removing any buildup on areas you can reach. I have found fan blades caked with animal fur. This can cause an imbalance on the fan blades, putting strain on the bushings on the motor shaft. Anything you can do to help prevent those conditions helps HOWEVER, keep in mind, you never want to block airflow to the unit. If you decide to add any kind of additional filtration, make sure you clean that filter often or change it. If the filter gets too full, it will reduce recommended air flow and possible can even get sucked into the airflow area, blocking a large percentage of airflow. Do not ignore the unit. Proper maintenance is a must.

  • @SuperJ213
    @SuperJ213 Před 3 lety +1

    This video inspired me to take my heater apart and see if cleaning things out would help. My fireplace is model 26ef023grg that came as part of a TV stand.
    I used compressed air to clean everything out which I'm sure was necessary, but I ultimately found the issue with my heater: the fan wasn't turning! When I first turned it on this season it made an awful noise then stopped quickly (both the noise and the fan itself). That sound, I came to find, was a bushing (on the end opposite the motor) that was rubbing inside a rubber boot/grommet.
    I disassembled the boot and the bushing, and it was apparent the boot was seizing on the shaft of the fan blade assembly. I removed the bushing and cleaned the inside of it as well as the shaft. I used some white lithium grease I have on hand to lubricate it, and I packed the boot with more grease. I inserted the bushing into the boot (it seats in a groove) then slid it back on to the fan shaft and seated the boot in the fan housing.
    The fan is spinning very smooth now! I ran the fan for an hour last night to see how how my fix would pan out and it was just like old times. I guess I'll see how long this holds up. Maybe it will become a periodic maintenance thing I have to do. I've been using my heater for five years now, so a five year interval isn't too bad I suppose (assuming I can go that long again).

    Sounds like the fan to me. When the fan is not working properly the heater element will overheat and make the smell you are talking about. The unit will usually shut down at that point as a result. The heater relies on the air flow from the fan to keep it at its operating temperature. If you are going to do the work yourself you can purchase the fan on our web site at myvacuumplace,com or by calling us at 253-474-9468 or 855-VACUUM-1 (855-822-8861)

      I found that after looking into it further without your valued assistance.
      I also noticed that in the video you mentioned for the replacement of the motor, there is evidence of burning on a number of certain plugs that carry high voltage to the board, and other places.
      Those plugs are clear when new, and black when heat burns them.
      But then, you knew that.
      Also, that motor can be serviced in about ten minutes from the bottom, and two screws, two wire nuts (supplied) and a cotter pin are all that is needed to deal with that entire operation.
      But thanks for the help. :/

    His fingers are in the way of some of the wiring examples. And, He should fast forward some of the (un)screwing. The video is too long. Not enough detailed illustrations and or explanations of the wiring!

      The best thing to do is to never waste your money on this thing. I am a slow learner and I have purchased 2 of them. Both had the same problem. Comes on for a few seconds and gos off and beeps. Tried to call the company but they don't care , wont return calls or reply to letters. Waste of money
