Beautiful pen. I have the Visconti Mirage Mythos Apollo in a gorgeous carmel brown. It has a German nib that is very smooth (especially for a Visconti 😂 )

Good review. The colour of the pen is stunning.
However, I was unlucky when I bought a Visconti Van Gogh 5 years ago. It was the 'self-portrait' one, mostly a light blue colour. The barrel developed a crack where it connects to the section and over time this has worsened. It still functions as a pen but knowing the crack is there my eye is always drawn to it! You can't help but notice it when you unscrew the barrel for cleaning or ink filling. So I am a tad wary now. I paid about £200 for it in the UK at the time. The nib hasn't always been perfect either, though generally adequate.
Well, I have a Michelangelo Back to Black and being all black the section is always stained because it's a damn fingerprint magnet, other than that, it's a wonderful pen. The nib is lacquered in black and it makes it drier than yours, which is good for me because of having small handwriting and needing finer nibs. But their prices, it's the only thing I complain of, otherwise I would build a Van Gogh collection, they are all damn pretty 🤩
Lovely - I have the Dr Gachet which is perfect in every way👍! Problem is a crack in the cap … not sure if I’ve dropped it or if just noticed it 2-3 years after purchase … Any suggestions for a fix/remedy. Anybody sent anything to Visconti?
Mick, do you have a Fine nib that you could do a comparison with? I've not had a Visconti before but really do like the look of them! Curious about the nib size and I always get caught out with the European sizes vs. Japanese sizes! Thanks!
Hello. I don't have a Van Gogh with a fine nib, but if you look at my (very early) review of the Visconti Michelangelo (same design as the Van Gogh) that has a fine nib. Visconti nibs have a reputation for being quite wet and broad for their allocated size, so (from my experience) if you are comparing European vs Japanese, a Visconti nib could be anything from 1-1.5 nib sizes broader than a Japanese. I believe they are made by Bock, but to specific Visconti parameters. My medium nib Pilot Custom 74 is probably half the line width of this Van Gogh.

You wont find a bigger advocate for steel nibs than me! As a true fountain pen user, a good steel nib is often my first port of call.
Yes, I a Diplomat gold and steel and I think I prefer the steel.

I have the Van Gogh Pine Trees (125th Anniversary) - I brought it on the Gold Coast. Unfortunately from the moment I started using it the nib was just awful. I sent it back to the place of purchase twice and it still wouldn’t write. In the end the retailer sent it to the Australian distributor and they turned the nib for me (his name escapes me) and now, I have to say it is possibly the most beautiful buttery smooth writer I now own.
I encountered the same problem with my Visconti Rembrandt. It is now out of use as a whole.
Thai is possibly the finest resin of the Van Gogh series. I think it was the first pen of this series released.
It’s a gorgeous material, and I agree, probably the finest they released. Although some of the others are beautiful as well… this is one is just perfectly suited to it.
I think it was the first Van Gogh released. I got one early on, and sadly, the nib in mine was not great. It had that mushy feel that steel Visconti nibs sometimes have. Beautiful material, though.
