Epiphone "Inspired by Gibson" ES-339 (Has Epiphone Fixed Their Quality Issues?)

  • I loved my old Epiphone Dot, and with them rebranding several of their higher-end guitars as a new "Inspired by Gibson" line; I figured I should pick one up and check it out. I grabbed an ES-339 in Pelham blue and wanted to share my thoughts on if this is a new era for Epiphone or not.

    I just bought one 4 months ago…. I bought a 335 but changed my mind.., after years or strats it was just too damn big, but I wanted that Gibson / Epiphone feel …. The 339 is PERFECT… besides the glossy neck, but I’ll sand her down sometime soon 🔥

    Take some extra fine steel wool to the frets. Very easy to do. Just make sure you put a towel over the pickups

      I define fret nibs as where the binding is raised at the end of the fret so the nickel fret ends at its inside edge.

      White or grey 3m scotch brite pads. Does what steel wool does without the steel fragments to worry about.

    My producer had one last night. My $2,200 White LP Custom sat on the couch as I used a $600 Epi to record.

    I'm not a fan of the 339's fret nibs but always like the form factor of the model. Does this have them or is it more like the hollowbody Casino Coupe?

    • @Randolphguitars
      @Randolphguitars  Před 7 měsíci +1

      I can't speak to anything about the casino, but the front ends on this guitar were great. That's why I was so frustrated at the top of the neck when the frets themselves weren't finished great and they were

      Epiphones do not have fret nibs. Only Gibson has fret nibs.

    I had one in 1991 and I still regret getting rid of it. Great guitars for entry level hollow players to get that sound for the quiver. Plus it’s got the iconic look. Can’t go wrong. Always a easy guitar to resell on the off chance it’s not your thing.

    Ok spend $50 on a professional fret dress and polish, add a touch of thread lock on the input jack. Ready to gig! Every guitar will have little niggles that need to be addressed in some way until you get to the $5k price point. The guitar looks pretty sweet for sub $600 and I am surprised such high quality is coming out of China. Now go practice some more. ;)

    You've made some really good points, thanks. I'd just like to make one. You should say either, "Has Epiphone fixed its..." or Have Epiphone fixed their...". The former treats Epi as a company, a single entity, the latter treats it as a group of people, a plural. Both are correct, and, no, it's not "it's", it's "its".
    By the way, I know it's not that big a deal. It's not that much of a deal either! But "it's not that big of a deal"? Really! That's not for you personally, it's for all Americans everywhere. Anyway, I'm going to buy one in Cherry this afternoon.

    Play that guitar into a high gain tube amp ..and feel the F holes Blow Wind ...Set the truss rod , bridge and loosen up the tail bar . New American Strings then do your Demo !

    • @Randolphguitars
      @Randolphguitars  Před 7 měsíci +1

      I'm confused. Fender bass breaker is a high gain tube amp, the guitar is set up, and the strings are fresh

    This isn't a review it's a self indulgent waffle. Incidentally, I have one of these and i love it. It's been turning heads since I started playing it live. For the price it's great.
