Canción compuesta y escrita por el compositor español Sebastián de Iradier y Salaverri hacia 1863. Es una de las canciones más populares que se han escrito, ya que ha sido producida e interpretada en diversas culturas, escenarios, arreglos y grabaciones los últimos 140 años. En el cuento Cuando salí de La Habana, válgame Dios, de José Emilio Pacheco, se cita esta canción en varias ocasiones.
Ahora se las ofrezco con esta versión rítmica más alegre.

I have been listening to music for 78 years. I play 8 instruments…some well, and some not as well. IN MY OPINION, the two performers who display a mastery of breathing technique are Raphael Mendez and Alfredo Redondo. Of course, they employ totally different breathing techniques, but the result is similar. Both performers could perform for unlimited time without one note being “Paused.” Raphael Mendez could take in air to his lungs while still playing the trumpet. I even watched him play two trumpets at the same time! I have heard him play with tremendous speed for several minutes with no break. I was privileged to play with him in the 1950’s. My estimate at that time was approaching 30 notes per second in “The Flight Of The Bumblebee.” Alfredo plays continually using inhale and exhale. Tomorrow, I will have my heart restarted to hopefully put an end to atrial fibrillation. Sooo, in case I don’t make it, I have to choose which composition from 78 years to be my last. I am choosing Alfredo Redondo’s “La Paloma” because of all the music that I have heard, it is the one I keep coming back to when I want to feel good. Thank you, Alfredo!!!
