The RMS Titanic has forever been the most iconic and famous ocean liner to ever exist. It infamously sank on there maiden voyage in April 1912 and ever since has been at the centre of interest and curiosity, popularized many times in pop culture over the last century. With all of that interest, some intrepid individuals have dreamt up their own modern creation and have set out to build replicas of the doomed liner. In this episode, I'm taking a look at some of the better known attempts at building a Titanic II and how almost all of them were eventually Cancelled...

It's an utter shame the Olympic was not preserved in permanent dock like the Queen Mary.
Irs true but you know whole world was facing economic crises in great depression. So they had to dismantling it
problem is that while the titanic and britannic disasters were tragic, they were just big ships at the end of the day, and the olympic had been outclassed multiple times by the end of her life. she was just an ordinary luxury liner. only with the titanic movie the ship gained the traction it holds today.
think of it like the costa concordia today. if someone decides to make a movie about it in 2097 it would probably be the same in 100 years

I think the Titanic 2 has a serious business case, even if it just stayed as a floating museum, it could travel around the world to port cities. Guaranteed to be a huge hit wherever it stopped and you would never have to worry about it getting old for the locals since you'd just move it.

I toured the SS "United States" and attended the week long auction of its furnishings in 1984 at a pier in Norfolk, VA. She was the fastest liner ever built, with over four times the horsepower of the "Titanic" (being government subsidized as a potential military troopship). She's about a hundred feet longer, and slightly broader, but weighs less due to her aluminum superstructure. After being towed to Turkey where she was gutted and the asbestos used in her construction was removed, she was returned to Philadelphia where a group is trying to save her from the scrapyard. I have often thought it would have been easy to convert her into a "Titanic" replica due to the similarity in the size of both vessels. Modifying the sharply raked bow of the "United States" to look like the vertical bow of "Titanic" would bring her length down, and using only one of her two boiler rooms to power two of the four propellers would still allow her to make more speed than a modern cruise ship. I'd really love to see the "United States" preserved, in one form or another.
They're actually planning to build a replica in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. It would only be the front half and would only be a floating museum, but it would probably be a big hit. There's a Titanic museum in Halifax and its also where a lot of the graves for Titanic victims are located.

true but think of it from the white star's perspective. its the great depression. the rms olympic is sailing with less than 20% capacity, and youre loosing money from it. it's also becoming out dated, and so, being in need of money, they scrap it. of couse we got to save some parts but back then keeping it as museam ship just wouldnt have made sense.

@@deadlyplumjellyproductions You would think they would’ve kept the one lucky ship that survived out of the all the ones they sank. As a historical landmark at least in honor of Titanic victims. SS United States still sits at a port in Philadelphia. I imagine the same could’ve been done with Olympic.
@@MicklowFilms well not really. The SS United States was built in the 50s, not during the Great Depression, when the White Star Line was in desperate need of money. By then, other ocean liners heavily outdated the Olympic class ship.
If anyone is interested, there's a project to entirely recreate her virtually, in the game "Titanic Honour and Glory". They're doing an incredible job at investigating the real Titanic to recreate her perfectly, as she was.
It's also much more affordable than a cruise, as long as your computer can run it.
Plus you can see parts of the ship that would never be allowed on a real cruise.
Titanic did not 'do' cruises : she was an Ocean Liner and designed to transport people between continents .

That's my biggest problem with anything Titanic related. People forget that this is an actual story about people who died. I've been to the Titanic graveyard in Halifax. It's a solemn place. There are graves of children, of literally entire families.
Agreed. I read about weird Leo DiCaprio fangirls visiting that place, thinking that the character was true to the real Jack Dawson... just no. I don't mind that the writers tweaked some of the details to make the story more relatable, tho. I like that they went to so much trouble to point out the horriffic classism that killed so many innocent women and children. I like the nod the movie gave to the Captain and the shipbuilder. I liked the (fictionalized) reference to the French Revolution in the story of the diamond. I loved the sets and the COSTUME PORN. Anything set between 15thc and WWII if it's well done. I love old architecture and clothing :) But I know the difference between reality and movies.
@@XenaBe25 the passengers on the titanic didn’t board the boats by class. In fact, the crew actually did their best to allow easier access for third class to the boat deck. Actually almost all men of second class died while some of third class survived. The reason so many people from third class died is because their section was located far beneath the boat deck so they couldn’t find their way up. The crew did their best to help them tho.

Of course the crew didn't want anyone to die, it was just the set up of the boat itself that lead to some unfortunate deaths
Here’s an idea: if you build a replica, don’t turn it into a cruise ship. Rather, turn it in a museum to show people what it was like for a lot of passengers struggles to escape the ocean liner. If you do it, do it in its birth place and do it by the company who originally built it (Harland & Wolff) the fee for the museum would go strictly to pay for maintenance of the museum and preservation of artifacts.

I'd probably have either a panic attack or a nerdy breakdown the second I stepped on board. That being said I think that's one of the best ways to go about it- the ship already gives off a semi-ominous vibe, just due to us knowing how it all ends, so why not harness it?

I remember hearing about this back in 2016. I used to be fascinated with the Titanic growing up and was excited to see where this would go. Year after year, the maiden voyage kept getting delayed. I'm not really surprised that it's not going anywhere. Maybe it's the world's way of saying: "Don't do this," given the ship's tragic end.

Honestly... I'd love to sail on a replica of her, with all honor and respect to those who were lost while I'm sailing. But if we could even just get a 1:1 scale recreation and have it dedicated as museum and such, that would be pretty cool too - but not a hotel/museum. Just a straight out museum. Not just a handful of rooms, but the whole ship. To be able to see how it was. Because currently the real ship is degrading faster and faster. Some estimates put the wreck as disappearing by 2030.

To be fair, I've read that the wreck isn't actually going to disappear anytime soon. Apparently that is just something James Cameron says to get money for more dives to the wreck. Most of the wreck should remain intact for at least the next hundred years.

James Cameron has done so much work on the titanic, he has so many documentaries investigating it and talking to descendants about how he portrayed their ancestors and what he got right and wrong and how while it was a romanticized story he wanted it to be as accurate as possible to history. It's how they discovered what happened to the main grand staircase.
I had hoped for years they would do this. Would have been so awesome to watch it sale into NY since the original never had a chance to. I think if they did this it would make a fortune in cruises for Titanic enthusiasts like myself. I have been fascinated with it since I was a kid.
But, The Olympic, her virtually identical TWIN, sailed into New York, all the time, as she was identical. I think she was more beautiful, because she lasted!
@@judydenver5362 Olympic .... also known as "the old reliable". Definitely my preferred choice as a name now for recreating the Olympic-class steamliner. Calling it Titanic II would create too much of a controversy on the actual ship that sank, and would perhaps amount to stamping on someone's grave.
Since the Olympic was unfortunate in that it ended up as a victim of the Great Depression and got scrapped for its metal at a junkyard, but with an impeccable career as an oceanliner and troopship, would make it much more honorable as a service to recreate her.
Also, following the sinking of the Titanic in 1912, the RMS Olympic went through a big refit as well. Including adding all the luxuries that Titanic had, like the Café Parisien etc. Knowing Titanic was about 1.000 tons heavier, but was soon equaled by Olympic during her refit.
I find it a bit disrespectful to the people that died on the original to be honest…

Olympic SAILED into New York many times ; along with Lusitania , Mauritania , and of course Aquitania , which was a larger ship than her two sisters and comparable in size to the Olympic class .

Biggest issue no one talks about. It's incredibly unlucky to give a ship the same name of a sunken ship, especially a ship that had many deaths. It's just bad juju, and I doubt they'd find a captain to sail it.
Ya. I’ve heard that sailors are very superstitious when it comes to the sea, and there are definitely things they consider bad luck. I imagine this would be right up there with things they wouldn’t go near.
Yeah it was always insane to me that TWO Essex-class carriers were named after sunken Yorktown-class carriers. But, hey, both of them are museums now

As someone who grew up down the road from Palmer’s resort and remember constantly hearing about his batshit projects, I remember seeing ads for this on the back of my local newspaper. Doesn’t mean I still didn’t feel some sort of whiplash seeing him appear on my screen. Great video!

I think people don’t realize, compared to modern Cruise Ships, Titanic is comparatively small and would likely be less than smooth sailing compared to the massive floating city sized ships of today.
Can you quantitate “less than smooth sailing”, and if you don’t mind my asking what are your qualifications?
Not to mention the function of this ship isn’t to become a massive port-to-port cruise ship anyway.
The titanic was built for Trans-Atlantic travel while today’s modern cruise ships are built for port to port travel.

@@operator91210 I always found it so crazy with all the technology in the world, and yet our technology is considered too modern to rebuild former cruise liners, historic steam locomotives, etc. it’s kinda like if 10,000 Irish men built a ship rivet by rivet with a hammer than they can build a titanic with a 3D printer likely more exact to the blueprints than the original itself.
@@jwrailve3615 I think the problem isn't the technology, it's all the old trade masters that used to do it have died off. So efficient techniques that were used to assemble said products is all lost skill because their grandchildren didn't take up their trades. few reproductions have been made, mostly old cars re-manufactured from scratch. I believe there was a steam locomotive that was built from scratch that took 20 years to assemble and fabricate (A1 peppercorn I believe)
@@operator91210 they are building from scratch the T-1 steam loco, 2-2-2-2 wheel configuration, I feel like if that project goes well we will see a huge progression in passion restoration projects across the country, despite all the economic woes I think we as a country are more nostalgic than ever for things before our time of the previous world.
I’m not a big believer in bad luck, but when it comes to Titanic I fully believe the ship and any projects having to do with it are jinxed. Obviously, the Titanic itself sunk and any projects wanting to build a 1:1 scale replica suddenly lose their funding at some point. There was a cruise remembering the 100th anniversary of the sinking that tried to sail on the exact days of Titanic’s maiden voyage and serving recreations of the first class menu in its restaurants but had to return to port only a day later because someone had a heart attack on the ship and, I believe, passed. Even James Cameron’s film ran into several issues: their food was somehow spiked with PCP sending both Cameron and Bill Paxton to the hospital, Kate Winslet got hypothermia and almost drowned, two stunt actors were almost crushed during the sinking scene, etc. I think it’s best to remember it for what it was - a tragedy - and not try to romanticize it by building a second Titanic or turn it into a theme park attraction.

I really hoped that Palmer’s plans would come to fruition. I’m a Marine Engineer, and wanted to apply for an engineering position on Titanic II. My grandfather’s uncle survived the actual disaster, and I had a slim hope that that would give me a inner track to employment😄 Oh well.

Sad but true. The latest update on Wikipedia said "Palmer began to doubt the economic viability of the ship once initial interest and curiosity had worn off." There's even fan videos making jokes about Titanic returning even Jack coming back alive like a Zombie.
They were never planned to actually happen. It was just one big PR stunt, both times.
The biggest cruise ships now are much larger than the Titanic. It would lose money to build a ship that way instead of the floating hotels that are most popular.

Never underestimate how much people from Asia love the movie Titanic. I have many coworkers/ friends from Laos & Vietnam, and that movie makes them cry like little kids.
I'm honestly shocked that no one has yet built a cruise-worthy replica Titanic. If it ever happens, it will be a huge success.
perhaps not, because around the time of the titanic the quickest way to traverse the atlantic was via cruiseship. However now that's obviously not the case. It would be cool, but I hardly believe the ship would stay operational for very long when the novelty wears off.
remember - Titanic was transportation (commerical airplanes weren't invented) and Titanic has three classes - So who wants to stay in 2nd & 3rd class rooms which look like jail cells. And the 2nd and 3rd class dining rooms looked like a warehouse etc..

A comment above you said they should rebuild the titanic, not make it a ship that can go on water but into a museum so people would get the feel of it if what it was like inside. It’ll make me feel a little uneasy. I’d constantly be thinking people who lost their lives. It shouldn’t really be a tourist attraction. Respecting the 1,500 people- they did not make it off that ship
Palmer's Titanic II was apparently designed by Deltamarin. They've designed a lot of cruise ships (the Oasis class for Royal Caribbean for example) and other ocean-going vessels and they're quite good at what they do, so that part of the project was legit at least.

Designing cruise ships and ocean liners are two entirely different disciplines ; the only ocean liner in the world today is the RMS Queen Mary 2 ( the flagship of the Cunard Line ) and entirely different in design and purpose from a cruise ship .

I remember when the wreck was discovered back in 1985 and how poor a state it was in. Over the years I've watched it deteriorate and I've always thought a replica should be made with the same interiors and fittings as on the original Titanic. As a history and Titanic nut, I would definitely visit it and sail on it.

I wholeheartedly agree. The Titanic is something I’ve spent my life researching about, and would do anything to stay or at least visit a replica with all the traditional fittings. However, who knows how feasible that would ever be. I’ve been to both the titanic museums, which as far as I’m aware are unfortunately the closest thing we have, but even those are nothing like you’d see in a true replica.
Thank you so much for doing this Historical piece! I had searched recently, to see if I could find any information on both of these projects. I actually also heard about a 3rd one, another landlocked one, that i had seen on Google maps, but i guess it was cancelled.
I wanted to hear this, MAINLY because, it is THE OLYMPIC, that I treasure, and cared about. NOT the Titanic.
I breaks my heart, that no one had the wisdom, the forsight, to preserve that gorgeous ship!!! It was nearly identical to the Titanic, and pictures of it were often used, to show people what the Titanic looked like, even for reference photos for the Titanic film. The beautiful staircase, the irreplaceable woodwork, etc., etc., all carelessly destroyed at a scrapyard!!!! It turns my stomach!!!
But The Olympic ship is the real star, of this line, as she survived and thrived for so long, even with a couple of collisions in her history. She made so many happy memories, and helped our troops, during the war, too.
I really wish that you would do a whole feature on her, if you haven't, already, and i wish she would be honored more often than the Titanic, because the Titanic, unfortunately, is a grave, a cemetery, for over 1,500 people, never had any successful history, and was merely heavily romanitcised in a largely fictional movie.

I love hearing anything about her, because that Ship is the one that should have been saved, and possibly still being run, today, as an historical ship, or at the very least, protected and preserved, forever, like The Queen Mary, on dry land as a treasure, a museum. I would love to see you do a video on Owens Lake, California. The entire town became a dust bowl after the Owens River was diverted to Los Angeles in the 1920s. The lakeside resort town was reduced to a decrepit mostly abandoned town in the desert. The town eventually sued the state over the bad air quality and won, so it costs millions of dollars a year to maintain it.

I had a whole nerd paragraph typed out here, then the 4 minute mark hit and it basically became a checklist. "Proper work began in 2012? Check.", "2016 maiden voyage plans? Double check." I haven't been obsessed with the Titanic and all it's goings-on since I was like, 12. I'm 20 now, and (probably due to that submarine) all of a sudden that little switch has been flicked back on. No matter the video, no matter how lengthy or in depth it is, I haven't been able to stop myself from clicking on it, and lo and behold, one of my favourite documentation channels already has a video on it.
I semi like the I deal of having a 1to1 replica of an Olympic class ship built in Maritime museum/park like they had with the queen Mary, just expanded. A walk through maritime history living museums and use the Cruse lines as floating hotels.

When visiting Halifax in 2010, we went to the titanic museum and i have to say it was one of the most interesting things ive ever seen in my life. I may have only been 10 years old, but ill never forget being able to see an actual piece of the hull itself and some of the possessions of the people on board. Would highly recommend visiting if youre ever in the area !
Obviously there was alot of renewed interest in the Titanic after the movie came out in the late 1998. Even in the early 2000"s their where rumors of a second Titanic ship that was virtually a replica of the original.
I would sail on it--wish they built ships like this again.
I completely agree with the complicated sentiments in this video. I would love to cross the Atlantic and sail into New York on RMS Titanic 2, but it’s also better to leave the great ship as a lesson of history. RIP RMS Titanic.

I remember closely following this project when it was announced back in 2013 during my final year in high school. I WANTED this to happen so badly and I wanted to work as steward on the vessel. But seeing the delays did puzzle me and seeing Clive being the absolute lunatic that he is kinda worried me, but I STILL held on to hope that this would happen. I even got a Titanic II pin from some ausse seller on eBay and I treasured the hell out of it. To the point I would take a souvenir pin of a plane out of it’s little box and put the Titanic II pin in the box to preserve it. Nowadays I just roll my eyes and say to people ask me and I just say “no it’s not”. I remember at one point as well Clive Palmer actually criticised the Chinese government saying “the Chinese just shoot their own people” or something among those lines, granted he’s not exactly wrong. But I knew this would be REALLY bad news for the Titanic II

For anyone that wants to get the tiniest glimpse on the original ''feel'' of the White Star Line ships, have a look at Daniel ''Danny'' Adamson tugboat.
Supposedly when the Olympic was refitted in the early 1930's some of the original leftover panelling went to this little ship and into it's ''grand staircase look''. After a massive conservation effort this little tugboat is now sailing round the UK and honestly a lovely little glimpse into how amazing the decor and design was part of the Olympic-class ships.
Also the SS Nomadic in Belfast. It's a much smaller ship built alongside the RMS Olympic to ferry passengers to and from the ship at Cherbourg, where the water was too shallow for the ship to come all the way into port. It had the same styles of furnishings and it's been fully restored to its original condition.

I would love to visit a finished replica one day. Not to romantizise the tragedy, but to be able to experiece part of what it was like to be on board a 100+ year old luxury liner at that time. The closest thing we currently have is the Queen Mary museum, which is kinda closed most of the time and has increasing repair and funding issues since almost 20 years now.

Kind of weird how no one can build a decent Titanic replica these modern days, while over 100 years ago Harland and Wolff pumped out three of these beauties in a shorter timeframe. I like Palmers idea and the model looks really good, nice combination of history and modern technic.

Yeah the thing is, there's literally no profit incentive to plan, build, sail and maintain a ship that operated 100+ years ago when today you could catch a plane or take a cruise ship around. While we defiantly can build as many life size Titanic replicas as we want today, the unfortunate truth is that nobody wants to spend 4 days on a ship if it doesn't come loaded with all the amenities and entertainment facilities that are found on all cruise ships today.
The closest we ever got to a modern titanic 2/ replica was the set used in the movie
White Star Line was having financial difficulties at the time and tried to see RMS Olympic. Unfortunately, they couldn't afford to turn it into a museum, so the decision was made to scrap her in 1937

Given that WW2 was about to start, she could've easily ended up serving the Axis (unless, of course, she got the Aquitania treatment and was kept around long enough to join the British troopship fleet). Also Olympic's scrapping provided employment and money to a town that was particularly hard-hit by the Depression, which seems like a fitting end for a ship called Old Reliable imo
There is a ship related to the Titanic which is now a museum ship in Belfast called the SS Nomadic; which was one of the tender ships specifically built for the Olympic Class ships.

I’m from Southampton and recently visited the grave of Frederick Fleet (the lookout on the Titanic) at Hollybrook Cemetery Southampton.
The Titanic Museum in Gatlinburg, TN recreated some of the interior of the Titanic. It was pretty amazing. I definitely recommend it!
I think the same company owns the Titanic Museum in Branson, MO. It’s pretty interesting to visit.
I really think bringing back the Titanic would be a great way to keep the idea of it a round, and keep the history alive and known. I hope it can happen, for a fully functional and nice cruise ship with possible museum decks or cabins for touring and for people on the cruise to learn about the whole ship, the original and new.

As a (LONG time) TITANIC Historian, I remember when Palmer's TITANIC II 'project' started. My immediate reaction was, "It'll never happen. It's a publicity stunt to cash in on the movie's current popularity". And every time it died and was resurrected, my belief was further reinforced. So this comes as no surprise to me.
By the way, at 3:06, observe a tragic irony in the "Popular Mechanics" illustration: in the background, you can see the World Trade Center, and if you want a real chill along that same line, in that bad "Raise the TITANIC" movie, near the end, there is a scene where the resurrected TITANIC, entering New York Harbor, passes abeam of the WTC in the background. Considering history, it's positively eerie.

I'll be honest, I would've saved and scrimped for a Southampton - NYC crossing on any rebuilt, modernized Titanic II. Probably brought a few "period appropriate" self-sewn outfits to wear on deck as well. If anything, that would bring me closer to that time and those people, to understanding what happened on that awful night. I don't get people who go on about how it's disrespectful and stuff, seriously. By that logic, the movie shouldn't exist either.
It all comes down to the fine line between telling a story about events and profiting from them. If it wasn't for her dramatic and horrific sinking, Titanic would probably have been overshadowed by her 'older sister' Olympic, there is an excellent 'what if' video on that by Oceanliner Designs here on youtube. So to create a Titanic II over say an Olympic II would be using the tragedy exclusively for financial gain.

“Horrifically gauche” seems to be the unifying theme of these _Titanic 2_ projects.
I am kinda bummed out about this. I kinda figured this would probably never happen. I remember being so hyped about this and writing and article about it in 5th or 6th grade.
If I were to have the resources to build a Titanic replica, I wouldn’t be doing anything like what have been tried so far. Rather, I would build one that’s an exact replica of the original, right down to the original number of lifeboats etc., but use it strictly only as a static, floating museum ship.
It will still be technically seaworthy, with functional coal boilers and everything, but - as a mark of respect for those who lost their lives in the original tragedy - it will never accept any sailing passengers or set sail, but instead permanently docked at either the Southampton White Star Line Dock - where it sailed from - or Pier 34 at New York City, its original intended destination.
There would also be at least one plaque on or near the entrance to the ship honouring the lives of those lost on the original ship, and the whole thing will be aimed more at educating people about Titanic’s history, the tragedy of the sinking, and the repercussions it had afterward on the survivors, the maritime industry, etc, rather than as some entertainment or theme park attraction. Basically, treating it with the respect it deserves, rather than belittling it as some cheap piece of entertainment.
I like the idea of a sailing museum of the once beautiful vessel but at the same time I feel it would be a bit of a smack in the face to those who tragically passed especially, if they were to ever sail over her final resting place, I genuinely think we should build an ocean liner similar to the three Olympic class ships but call it something different and have it be a sort of younger modern brother to the sisters that came before

I would pay for a cruise on a Titanic 2 should it be built. I would love much of the passenger areas to remain as similar as possible to the original ship(except maybe have free Wi-Fi for the guests), but have the modern safety features that modern cruise ships are built with.

I'm honestly glad you did a video on this subject, Jake. I love anything having to do with the titanic and had always heard about the titanic 2 project and wondered what ever happened to the idea. It's good to get some kind of backstory and update on the projects. I honestly think it would be interesting to see it come to fruition even if it only becomes a museum or tribute to the original ship and those that sadly perished that night.

Such a shame that Olympic got scrapped. However, some of her interior was saved and is now in White Swan hotel in Alnwick, England (dining room and railing from grand staircase). The other way of experiencing Olympic class liner would be to see a wreck of Britannic, but you need special permissions from Greek goverment and be a specialized technical diver.
Almost all of her interiors were saved and still exist. Most went to a paint factory that bought up a lot of the interior. I own a segment that originally came from the 1st class smoking room. Olympic deserved to survive the 1930s she was still in very good shape for a ship over 20 years old they even said her engines were running the best they had ever run in her entire career.

I know that there still are enthusiasts of the story of the Titanic out there, but so much time has passed since the movie came out and even since the 100th anniversary of the disaster that I think the massive hype around it has died down. So even if the Titanic II came to fruition, it probably wouldn’t be profitable. Not to mention that it would be disrespectful, not to mention tempting fate, to recreate the Titanic and sail it with paying customers.

I don't think so. The DiCaprio film was hardly the first movie about the Titanic, and there have been hundreds of books written about it. People are still very, very interested in Titanic, and will continue to be. There's just something about it. And I don't think it's ever disrespectful to remember, to learn, to put yourself in the shoes of people in the past. If it WAS disrespectful, then all museums about any war (or the holocaust) would be disrespectful.

When it comes to Titanic, people aren't gushing how they want so badly to ride in a copy of it. What people would dig on is a "Titanic Sinking Immersive Experience" of what it was like to be a 2nd or 3rd class passenger as it hit the iceberg and went down. Build that instead.
I think probably the best way to handle a concept like this while being respectful is to make a Titanic Museum.
A few of those already exists, but never to full scale.
But I don't know how successful a 1 to 1 replica would be, given most people would probably want to go on the deck, bow, living quarters, dinning rooms and the grand stair case... and that's about it. It would be too expensive to be supported by casual observers.
Historians and fanatics(such as myself) would love to see something to scale, but at the end of the day, it would end up being a huge waste of money for any finacer.
Who would ever want to go on a cruise or ocean crossing on a “Titanic 2”? Could you imagine the prospect of it retracing the original Southampton to NYC route, and which cruise line would have the bad enough taste to even suggest it?
The only way I’d ever step foot on it would be if it was just a replica that was permanently docked, like the Queen Mary in Long Beach. Some of my ancestors died on the Lusitania, so I prefer not to tempt fate.
As some have rightly pointed out; titanic was a tragedy. Real people, men, women and children died, it’s not something to be made into a tourist attraction .
Now a replica Olympic class I could get behind, but give her a new name and make her a tribute to the whole class not just a cheap cash in on a century old tragedy.
No one's downplaying the severity of the loss and death that occured that day, but just because you were mortally involved in the incidental destruction of a property doesn't mean that it's mere likeness belongs with you in the grave. Example would be like as if I died driving a 2003 Jeep Cherokee, and someone like you would want people to not continue to drive the model of the car I drove out of respect, assuming that it's what Id even want as a dead person too or some shit; not asking others to replicate the vehicle or incident whatsoever. No that's stupid, of course that Jeep example is less specific than the literal Titanic; a ship that was one of a kind, but that doesn't denote my point. Honestly I think tragedy should be blanketed with a layer of acceptance and nihilistic happiness, and all that happens to me is a different form of expressing understanding, which is what I'm assuming you'd want people to do. As knowing what occured obviously paves more room for exhibiting empathy. But truthfully I think there's no benefit to exemplify the impact of horrific shit longer than you need to, the message is out there, and the sadness is there, and just because people don't choose display their realization of that outwardly with consistence doesn't mean it doesn't make those people not understand or care. And for those who are willing to trek under the covers and dive further into these kind of stories, they can, but just because they're spending more time acknowledging the depressing history, doesn't give them some right to nasal gazingly look down upon those others with resentment who chose instead to revel in the less negative side of things.
You can get as graphically descriptive as you'd want about whatever event you're discussing, the person listening would reasonably be affected, or touched. But don't always assume that because it's gotten them to blankly stare out of the recognition of terror, or utter gods name out of the impact in reaction, that it means they know it's bad anymore than they had before.
Also attractions are good way of educating people on the event through entertainment, and you're looking for empathy through understanding by probably wanting people to dig a little deeper, and well that's where you're going to get it. Hell that's where most of our greatest, serious lessons can come from, is entertainment. It's how they leave impressions on us is because the good is usually tempered with the heavy, sad/bad deep shit. Anyways Titanic II would've been cool, and the sub folks maybe should've invested some of their money into that instead of purchasing a glorified casket. Very tragic.

Titanic 2 is a hoax. Clive Palmer from Blue Star Line is a liar and a con man. He has been promising another Titanic for years and has never even started building anything. He releases bogus press releases about it every few years to get attention for himself. He already screwed over an entire town in a nickel mine scam and is now facing a 5 to 10 year prison term in a separate fraud case.
Clive even once claimed that he was going to build a real Jurrassic Park, with real cloned dinosaurs.
The one being built in China is a completely different project and will be a stationary vessel and a permanent part of a theme park there.
I wish someone would rebuild this ship. To see it’s true beauty would be a once in a lifetime opportunity. There are thousands of people that would love to see the interior and maybe even cruise the ocean on such a ship. I don’t care if there are cruise ships much bigger now, I want to see a replica in person.

I was beyond exited for this, so this is kinda heart breaking.
They really should build a replica of the Titanic but it should be permanently moored or in dry dock at the Titanic museum in Belfast.
Yeah, it would be like a hotel! That’s genius. The hotel employees are characters that come from 3rd to 1st class. Even maids and crew members would be there.
