I live in Joliet Illinois, south west of Chicago. There is no oil fields here, but father south there are some. We had thunderstorms in the area at that time, I thought it was just thunder. But I did feel the quake, it was very weak. My cats were acting scared but again thought it was the storms.
How the Rocky Mountain Range was formed is something that gets me. An earthquake in the Illinois area takes my mind to the that mountain range. Not sure if they're related, but that's my uneducated guess.
The west coast lull always gets my attention. Kinda like when your little kids get quiet, haha. You know somrthing's up. Maybe the west coast is a child, lol.

I live in Cicero Illinois- didn't feeling it , was surprised to hear this just now. Aurora Illinois has had Earthquakes, even Cicero Illinois had an earthquake 45 years ago I heard. My Mom was taking about it when I was younger..... John
No oil fields in DeKalb. Northern Illinois university is there. We had Severe Storms visit the Northern Illinois. More severe weather tonight.
No oil fields that I know of around here but lots of high power transmission lines and surprisingly more nuclear power plants than you'd think

Isn't that the northern track of the New Madrid zone? I think Cairo Illinois rattled during the 1811-12 series.
Cairo is at the southern tip of Illinois, much closer to New Madrid, MO.
