I just happened to stumble upon your channel, while doing my daily CZcams search, "Day in the life of (insert job interest here)". This has been a daily habit of mine after spending 8 years in sales and retail, achieving a double bachelors in Communication and realizing..... I hated it all.... I'm great at it, but I hate it. You're so very right about nothing being a failure, because it is really helpful in realizing what I want to be, by living what I don't want. Thomas Edison said, "'I have not failed. I've just found 10000 ways that won't work" and this vlog is the epitome of that kind of positive thinking.

Elmify, I love your frame of mind when it comes to the future. The fact that you remain positive in the face of uncertainty, gives me the confidence to just dive into college, albeit not my first choice school, with a major that I don't know what to do with. I'm currently working to change my bias towards my campers, as a counselor. I favor the campers I had last year, to the ones I have this year, though at the beginning of it all I was sure I would be happy anywhere. Upon discovering that I --

a lot of times, when people get rejected from their top career option, they choose a different path...but i feel like its less out of passion and interest, and more out of "i dont really have a choice". we learned that self-esteem is a huge part of our psyche and that we try to make ourselves feel much better about our decisions so there is no dissonance. so many people say "i found out this was actually my passion" because it helps them feel good about the fact that they couldn't get into med school. hopefully you genuinely like it and this isn't some unconscious pat-on-the-back to make yourself feel good about the direction you're forced to take.

Congratulations! Changing your mind just means that you are brave enough to take charge of your life and you will be much happier in the long run.

(Novel: Part One) Congratulations on your grad school acceptance! I actually discovered your channel via your Rejected video because, yes, I was rejected from every medical school I applied to this year. Looking back, I wasn't fully prepared to apply. One thing that you mentioned during that video was (while coming up with alternative Grey's Anatomy referenced nicknames) was that you were reevaluating your life plans.

    WOOO! Congrats!
Just yesterday we made Reuben sandwiches for lunch, and I took the plunge and tried it with sauerkraut. It was equally as good with or without, now I know. Thank goodness I opened my mind, or I never would have made this discovery about myself.

Congrats! You have no idea how much this video hits home for me. At the end of this past semester, it was the first time in my life that my resolve for medicine has been shaken. It's still got a rather large chunk that needs to be mended, and for the first time in my life, I have no idea what I'm going to do. Trudging along though. I suppose I'll know better by the end of summer.

Oh wow! I am delighted for you! I live in Scotland and getting into a PHD program is a big deal, because there are very few and to many amazing students! I am glad you had that realisation before you started medical school. It's like you were meant to be rejected the first time round.

Congrats! I hope you enjoy it! I've had a change of career plans. I had graduated from college with a BS in IT and was planning on being a PC Support Specialist. Due to lack of experience (and probably also that I'm female), I wasn't getting interviews or jobs. Now I work as a Business Analyst, which seems to suit me well. I even get to program quite a bit which utilizes my major. It's definitely not what I planned, but sometimes unexpected things end up working out better than ones you plan.

    Well done!
As a medical student I can tell you that there is no way I could be doing all this if I wasn't sure it's what I wanted as a career, so I think you've made absolutely the right choice in studying something that you actually want to do *double thumbs up* :)

Congrats! I am so happy for you! I was nursing halfway through college and then I switched to biology. Now I've graduated and I'm thinking about going to grad school possibly in a few years doing something environmental.

Elmify, you look so happy! It made me smile. Also, changing your mind is definitely something that needs talking about because a lot of people do.

Congratulations! I changed my mind about the world and myself. I learned that the world is a cruel place full of monsters, and the only way to survive is to carry a tiny little piece of light in your soul. I am sure the meaning of life is to protect this little piece of good inside us, so that we don't loose our humanity. I wish you all the best, you go girl!!! xoxo

Congratulations! The concept of success = more success and failure = more failure is pretty engrained in us, so when "real life" happens and it turns out that's not how the world works ... I don't know, I found that to be really exciting and a way more livable existence than the "reality" adults told me about as a kid!

Congrats! I think you put it very eloquently, whenever I am very sure and enthusiastic about something I always get a bit embarrassed when I change my mind, even though there is no good reason to be.
Looking forward to coming along for the Phd ride!

I have a grad school story too. Namely about where and when I decided to go to grad school. Once i graduated undergrad I always thought I would immediately go back to the states to finish off my masters. It's now little over a year later and I'm packing to start my masters in Sydney and move in with my sister. I honestly think I'm going to be a lot happier this time around. Thanks for making this video. Made me feel much less lonely in feeling like the real world thwarted my idealistic grad plans

Elmify! I'm so glad you've made a decision and will be happy in what you do. I completely agree with you about finding what you like, it may be for the best that you didn't waste a year or three becoming an MD only to pursue academia later on. I'm just about to start a medical biochem undergrad degree after flopping around between anthropology, art and science for two years. Keep us posted and best of luck!
