I was going to mention that.....in the 80s thats what people used in their mohawks to keep it up and in place. I heard it was a pain to wash out though....
@@emily.toombs That's sounds right only egg yolks..Then just add organic oil essence like jasmine or a nice fragrance..Never see Mohawk's anymore anywhere.
The protein in egg white basically functions as a glue. Before oil paint, painters used egg tempera paint, where instead of oil, egg was used as the binding medium. Painting is nothing else than gluing (or bonding) pigments to a canvas or panel, with oil being a very slow drying type of glue (which makes oil paint so popular), and egg being a faster drying agent. Many traditional glues were made of protein. There are gelatine ones from animal skin or bone marrow (I think) and milk can be used to treat cracks in porcelain. Anyway that explains why it had such amazing hold 😊 Hope the people on here appreciate this bit of background 😊
Actually, only the yolk diluted with water is used in Tempera paint. No animal products are used in iconography, as you suggest. Nothing slaughtered is allowed in the church. Only hard-boiled eggs at Easter.
@@Mary-Ann_B_Mabaet you're in the same boat as me then! That's what we used in the late 70s and early 8Os to get spikey styles. When hair mousse and gels came out it was received like a gift from the hair gods!
We used to use it for our curls as teens, but we beat the whites first to make it more the texture of mousse and it was much easier to apply to our hair - cheers!
This was so fascinating to watch, and yet horrifying at the same time. I could feel the texture and sliminess of the egg through the screen, but I couldn’t look away because it looked so interesting 😂
I use to do this as a kid in my native country to define my curls!! We didn't have acces to gel. If you do It often enough your hair is going to get really shiny and thick!! ❤❤
As a kid and teen, I tried many things I had laying around. Trust me so many things can be helpful w/beauty. My Tia Lupe used lemon juice on my hair like hairspray. 😉
I feel like this is ground breaking because that’s probably good for your hair too, like a keratin treatment. It reminds me of when people use flax as a hair gel! I’d love to see if it also works on curly/textured hair!
I’ve did egg and mayo protein treatments before. I don’t think it was any better than the standard protein treatment from the store but it definitely looks like a great gel!

I am wanting to do finger waves on my short hair for my wedding. I was wondering what would make it stay in place- I will be suggesting this to my hair stylist 😂💖
We can't buy eggs in Australia at the moment, due to bird flu, but I might try it out when they're available again. My mum used to make hair masks with eggs and mayonnaise for her hair when I was younger. She had beautiful, long, thick blonde hair, and was a hair model for years. So she had to really look after her hair so it wouldn't get destroyed by old style chemicals.
I know someone who uses egg whites to get her straight hair to scrunch up! It seriously looks like she has really curly hair that stays scrunched. Just don't use too hot of a dryer or you'll cook the egg whites and then you'll have to shower and wash your hair (& yes, she learned that the hard way while we were roommates).
I have genuine questions: how does it sit in the warm/hot weather? Will it smell or become cooked in the sun after a while? I've seen people in the comments who used that in real life, maybe they'll help)
Try beating the egg whites until they can form peaks next time 😊 It is so much easier to apply to your hair when it is a foam and it seems to permeate the hair better instead of sliding off the hair strands. None of our punk/goth/alt hairstyles were achieved professionally back in the day but were instead achieved by a friend the vast majority of the time. I somehow became the resident goth/punk/alt hairdresser/stylist and we went through an inordinate number of eggs 😅

If your hair is stretching, absolutely. If it's dry and frizzy or healthy it doesn't need it and it'll end up brittle, dry and dull.
