Clara Lieu was an Adjunct Professor at the Rhode Island School of Design from 2007-2020. Her artwork has been exhibited at the International Print Center NY, the Currier Museum, Childs Gallery, the Davis Museum, and more. Lieu received an artist fellowship from the MA Cultural Council, has written for the NY Times, and lectured at Brown University, the NAEA conference, and in Vancouver & China. Saw this as a MICA student and smiled. One thing I might add that I found helpful when applying is that MICA tends to favor more cohesive portfolios, often with less emphasis on more "technical exercise" pieces like academic charcoal drawings and more on pieces that are recognizably from the same artist. This doesn't mean they want to see a distinct style, but they do want a cohesive presentation of work. The advisor who I talked to when applying explained that they want to see your personality in your portfolio.

watching this even though I'm still 14 and living in the Philippines lolol
I wonder if MICA became more lenient on community college transfer credits. When I was there a few years ago, one could transfer science and math credits from cc or AP classes but no cc art course credits (or AP art studio).
I will say that my experience with the career fair and center was that it was relatively limited to animation and design major-centered careers. From what I understand, that has continued to be the case. The good thing is that even within the smaller departments (I was in Fiber) the instructors are active artists themselves and they're very helpful with connecting you with interesting job and internship opportunities either locally or in other cities. We had several instructors in our major who lived and worked either in Philadelphia or NYC and came to campus once or twice a week to teach.
Career fairs do tend to lean towards certain majors over others, which isn't always ideal (unless you're one of the chosen majors!). It's great that you were able to find support, though-- that's extremely valuable in the artistic field :) - Mia Rozear, Art Prof Staff
