I was at Penn State when Franco and Lydell was the backfield. I shot poll with Lydell and his 'tutor' [who I went to high school with] and met Franco because of Lydell. The first thing I remember about Franco was his smile. Me, a nobody, and Franco treated me like I was a member of the football team smiling the whole time. So when the Steelers drafted Franco, I was over the moon because I knew Franco would be solid...little did I know how solid! I remember the Immaculate Reception like it just happened [and the controversy mostly pushed by Al Davis and 'motormouth' Madden...can you tell I didn't like the Raiders - still don't] And was I ever pissed at the Steelers in 1984 when they waivered Franco - I called the Rooney's ever name in the book. When I heard about Franco passing...a piece of my heart said bye-bye. I know Franco is now flying with his Mom and Dad. I wish Franco's Wife Dana and son "Dok" many blessings in this very trying moment. May this weekend be a celebration of greatness Franco Harris gave to the Steelers and Steeler Nation!
