For us, BLLB has always been the most "Adam" book ..just...so much character development!!
Adam has been such a mess in The Dream Thieves but now he's finally coming into himself, accepting his new role as the Magician. He realises that he's not the only one feeling lonesome, (and that he had only known part of Ronan and had assumed it was all of him.👀) He learns that he isn't as unkowable as he'd always thought he was and that it's okay to accept help sometimes, that friendship isn't charity. He's finally feeling awake for the first time in years. ("What do you want, Adam? To feel awake.")
