They’re both takes on the same concept- spongebob clipshow- but the game actually goes back over nostalgic moments from the show instead of making up new ones, and it’s interactive which adds enjoyment.
After watching this video, this is what i think: He says "Siblings" a lot when referring to the relationship between bfbb/ the movie game and truth or square, and I know kinda see it as a family. Heavy iron studios and THQ are the parents, Bfbb and The movie game are twins, and truth or square is the youngest in the family, that wants to be as cool as his older brothers. Some examples are: Using music from their games, using similar designs and areas, and uses other similar aspects that belongs to bfbb and the movie game, while bringing in some new aspects to make him like his brothers, but still his own person.

It holds more of a tribute to the first two Heavy Iron games rather than being a new original game. With that being said, it still has care and attention to detail put into it and wipes shovelware like Plankton's Robotic Revenge and HeroPants out of the water (no pun intended). Great review!

+Jaden Cohick personally I did enjoy this game when I played it. it wasa game that came when we got our 360 for christmas. and there were things that I liked about it, like the levels referencing individual episodes and the shows music in the background along with the bfbb and movie game soundtracks. I wouldn't say its a terrible game or that its underrated. id say its in the middle for me, its fine for a few playthroughs

I love this game, it's more of like a nostalgia trip for the 1st decade of SpongeBob. Although, I really wished that heavy iron kept it as Happiness Squared
You deserve SO many more subscribers! your videos are very well made, and they're funny. It can be hard to find a combo of the two.
Truth or Square was the final acceptance statement that there will no longer be good spongebob games, it's like when you have two great conquerors take over a land to bring prosperity and peace, truth or square was the son of the rulers that grew up in the great age and didn't do as well as the parents, but did't destroy the kingdom. Truth or Square's children would go burn down everything the first two established. Neutrality and transition at its finest. If you view it as a final memory and devotion to the first two games then it's good, but if you view it as a sequel to the first two, then it's the start of the end.

I here by say that Truth or Square is not guilty. Why? Well, I really like this game I enjoy playing every minute of it. Hell, I still have this game on my 360. I've also 100% completed it. I find this game WAY better then the one hour special, because of how fun it is and it's plot. I find the plot in the special really dumb and something I don't wan't to see again. Also, at 10:48 I never knew anything about that glitch, never triggered it.
Lastly, I really liked your review, you made a really nice statement.
Truth or squared is my favorite
I agree, I really like Truth or Square. It's really fun.
The glitch looked like it triggered because he jumped just as the ship decided to turn. This seems to have been an issue with every single one of these games in the trilogy. Jumping off of moving objects accelerates your movement drastically, and since that ship turns really weirdly, as in increments that move really fast to give the illusion of smooth turning, you fly way off because of that speed it turns at.
Heavy Iron should make a licensed Invader Zim game, it would work since Invader Zim is returning.
I'm gonna have to wait until I play Truth or Square before fully watching this video, I ordered a copy that will arrive soon. However I started watching the video and I can say it's looking good so far, but I quickly had to pause it at the "Nostalgic Montage" to avoid spoilers haha

Let's take a trip back to 2009, where a trailer for SpongeBob Squarepants: Happiness Squared was shown. It had all the combat & everything from Truth or Square. All Nickelodeon did was make the title change to Truth or Square to promote the episode. (Fun Fact: Each SpongeBob game had one less character. BFBB: 3 The Movie Game: 2 Happiness Squared / Truth or Square: 1)
Hey. I'm sorry it took me a couple weeks since you messaged me to get around to this.
From what I remember of the Battle for Bikini Bottom video (and it's been a year so if I frick something up I'M SORRY), your voiceover needed improvement, which I believe you've definitely fixed here. You're much more energetic, and you've improved your mic quality!
As far as discussing the game itself, you did a spectacular job. Out of the "Heavy Iron Trilogy", Truth or Square was the only one I haven't played, but you described everything so well that it completely filled in an unexperienced player like me. However, I think you also described everything tooooo well. 30 minutes? Hot dayum. I think you could've definitely shaved maybe 5 to 10 minutes off this beast. Even though you still had my attention throughout and I didn't think about closing the video till it was over, I did periodically wonder when it was gonna end.
Only other minor nitpick was I would've chosen a better voice for the Judge. Your dad did a serviceable job, especially considering most instances of getting family members to do VO work for you, at least that I've seen, didn't turn out pretty, and if it was a regular old average judge, I don't think I would've batted an eye, but that's not the voice I'd imagine the Phoenix Wright judge to have. But that's a very minor nitpick.......even though it's apparently enough to warrant its own paragraph which I only just realized I did oops
So yeah, very good video. It'd be much stronger if you could take less time with your arguments and points, but strong outing. Keep it up!
+SmashMasterShow Thanks for the in depth response! Those are all fair criticisms, I definitely go overboard on a lot of stuff sometimes. I actually used the same mic for this video! It was actually just me learning how to edit audio like I'm not in a wind tunnel. I ended up picking my dad for the voice mostly because I was more comfortable criticizing his performance, but yeah even though I liked his performance, he's definitely new to this.

I actually played this game before the other two, and as my first spongebob game, I really enjoyed it. Sure the gameplay seems like a step down from the other two, but the presentation is great, and I adore all the references it throws in.
I think this game is Not Guilty. I appreciate the multiplayer they tried to incorporate (which for my brother worked because he loved the Luma in Galaxy 2, and he adored Plankton in this game). Yeah, it’s short, but this game has a lot of charm, like the references to the show whether it be the idea of visiting older episodes, the little details scattered around, and so on. Hell, I don’t really have a problem with reusing the soundtrack from the previous games, because the choices were pretty solid.
I rest my case.

I remembered the animation but I just couldn't find an example of it. I was mostly playing truth or square when writing the script so I may have missed a couple details.
Weirdly I like this game even though I was 6 when I played but I replayed it when I was 8 and I still liked it

One nitpick: cameras don't pan up, they TILT up. Panning is side-to-side.
Thankfully the show got a lot better shortly after this review. Seasons 9b, 10, and 11 are great. Maybe you could give them a shot? If you do I recommend Sold!, Sanitation Insanity, Old Man Patrick, Lame and Fortune, CopyBob DittoPants, Bulletin Board, Mall Girl Pearl, Squid Plus One, or Pull up a Barrel.

I haven't played any of them, but based on what fans say, when I think of the sponge on game series, I think of Paper Mario. Two game series that each had 2 really good games and others that cannot capture what made the originals great.

One of the interesting things for me was that before the 10th anniversary special, this was actually gonna be a different type of game. Just look up SpongeBob happiness squared.
Truth or Square was meant to be a bigger thing, There is a demo reel for a game called “Happiness Squared” that has similarities to ToS that it you wonder, was this the third game? Why was it completely changed?
Was it Nick’s fault or THQ’s fault? It makes Truth or Square more interesting if looking on that part.

Ayy bfbb came out two months after I was born
I was kind of surprised you didn't mention the PS3 extra levels.
my favourite spongebob games were The Movie Game, Battle For Bikini Bottom, and Creature From The Krusty Krab. These three games are amazing! Creature From The Krusty Krab is a bit odd but it's fun and enjoyable. I think I'll try this game out. I just hope THQNordic eventually releases Spongebob remasters or a new game.
The only memory I have of Truth or Square was when I played it on my DS (Man...it's been a long time since that) and I honestly can't remember that many things about it, I agree with that the game is average and that it should be played, and forgotten. I loved this review a lot man. Are you going to be reviewing any of the other Spongebob games? (Lights, Cameras, Pants!; Squarepantis Atlantis etc.?)

I'm astounded by the quality of this review. Despite your other ones being well off on their own, this one took it multiple steps further. Good job on this one, great review. I've never personally played this game, however, despite Battle for Bikini Bottom quite literally being my favorite game of all time, but I've never seen much of a reason to. I'm going to blame most of its faults on THQ going bankrupt around the time it was released, though... And I just hope Heavy Iron can get a license one day and redeem themselves. At this point, I doubt that will ever happen, but they have stated multiple times in the past that if they were able to, they would make another "sequel" to BfBB, whether it be direct or indirect, and I'd love to see them take another shot at it.
I feel that I strayed a bit throughout my comment. I guess my point is that I want to thank you for covering these games, as most of them are generally ignored, even with the cult followings that BfBB and the Movie game have. Can't wait for your next review.

People seem to forget that the DS and PSP versions of this game can be extremely different from the XBox/Wii versions.
the psp version is pretty much the same, except for the graphics and a new level being included. The DS version is entirely different tho.

So here's the thing. Whenever I see footage of TOS, I want to give it a shot on one hand, and I don't on the other hand. I don't like how they reused the music. People say this is a "tribute" I mean sure, I guess... but I would have preferred a new soundtrack. Only one playable character? However, the graphics are very nice, the gameplay looks good ENOUGH, and I might give it a shot, but it's like... sigh... man...

After finishing Truth or Square in one night, I can agree with your review that it was average. I had high expectations of it to be like Battle for Bikini Bottom, but it just seemed bland and repetitive. But the scenery wasn't bland though, that was pretty good. Hopefully Heavy Iron can somehow retake the SpongeBob license.

Truth or Square is definitely meh. I loved the attention to detail though, like how all the achievements in the 360 version are all episode names, and the things around the house and whatnot. Definitely has some huge flaws though, as you went into. Great review!
the ds version Is really good compared to the console versions, the ds version had mini games more levels loads of original tracks and more
BFBB was the goldeneye64 of spongebob games (not in a good way), RotFD is an underrated game that dared to try something new, the movie game was battle but worse, aaand I never played truth or square because that's about when I stopped caring about spongebob. That's my opinion at least
Not guilty heavy iron made put those music from their first 2 games cause it's a anniversary so it's passble. The grafics were pretty good. It's better than the TV show. And it's way better than Activision game. Plus thq was going bankrupt so they had less of a budget then normal so I don't blame heavy iron. This is the first SpongeBob game i got and I fell in love with it when I was little and love playing it again. Yes it's short but still at least it has a little replay value. So in the end I know it's a bit to much but 7 out of 10 but game combining ever heavy iron game 9 out of 10 hope heavy iron returns to make a 4th game for SpongeBob
