Footage looks amazing mate! The people who don't like the out of focus halos are just too in love with the modern, clean, crispy, hermetic and fake look and they forget that life is beautiful because it has imperfections!
Couldn't agree more!
It makes me laugh because lots of shooters absolutely obsess over sharpness, but once they have it they're buying $700 tinted diffusion filters to take it away again because oversharp footage screams video and they want the "film look." You get the same thing from this lens for $50. Buying those filters to tame the sharpness down is really the long way around the barn. Fun fact: Remember the falling-in-love sequence from "Tom Jones"? They got that dreamy effect with a piece of netting off an old hat.
Absolutely true. Old Pentax lenses are Gold. I recently acquired a 400-600mm Reflex Zoom by Pentax. It's 3-4 decades old. It's in perfect condition and takes gorgeous pictures that are not "too sharp" - more realistic than what I get with modern lenses. It also gives me the joy of manual focusing that requires skill and effort - that's how I started photography as a teenager/young adult of the late 20th century.
even modern filmmaker use hallation effecct on their footage to get that vintage look :)
My dad gave me his camera gear years ago, which included three super taks (35, 50, and 120). I usually shoot black and white film, but this video has inspired me to load it up with color film for that gorgeous warmth from the yellowed lens! Beautiful video⊠Thank you for sharing this project!
Every day is a warm day in Autumn with a properly yellowed Super Tak.
My god the footage looks amazing
Any still frame from the footage looks like it was taken on 35mm film. Quite pretty! I have this exact lens and my photos on 35mm look a lot like this, never tried to do video with it!
I have several Super Takumar lenses. They were state of the art in their day and are still excellent, though nowadays I usually use them with an adapter on my Canon DSLR. They also make geiger counters nervous... đœ
Good to know!
Oui! Will buy one for my pentax k32, love ur content, thx for sharing Mathieu
Me at the start of video:
"Is this asmr?"
this is the most beautiful footage iâve ever seen. just made me tear up, mathieu! i gotta get that lens now. thank you â„ïž
Glad you liked it!!
Another amazing video Mathieu đ
I feel like you should mension that while intact radioactive glass is quite safe you should be careful if they are broken since they may release radioactive dust.
I really enjoy mine. The focus throw is short so it can sometimes be tricky to focus moving objects but it creates a beautiful image.
I loved the color grading!
Yellow tint and that vintage softness that makes it appealing
Have this one as well as 50mm an 135.. these are amzaing lenses - one of the best vintage glass - definately the best build quality
Great results... thanks for sharing
My TAKUMAR lenses are some of my best. I love them.
Radioactive beauty
Beautiful jaw-dropping images. Super Taks are on my list of vintage lens sets to get. Gwaaanmyooot!⊠đ
They make up 90% of all my lenses.
Awesome lens and very informative!
Glad you think so!
Love the content!
thanks a lot Maxim
Hemming and hawing about adding this lens to my bag. This video made my decision.
It really wasn't obvious from the footage that the lens glass had a yellow tint to it.
It would be really amazing to see a comparison with a lens that's had the uv treatment.
the takumar are probably my favorite vintage lens, they lack of vintage look for some people cause the coating wass really great ! but for me its a perfect mixed between vintage and modern look.
i have a macro takumar 50mm f4 (the first version with magnification 1:1) i love it
Love the video! what camera body did you use for this? I just saw that info in the notes! my bad!
Thanks for the thorough review! Do you know if auto-takumar 35/f2.3 is radioactive as well?
Lovely footage! Velkommen tilbake! âšđłđŽ
good show mate. I have takumar 50m 8th and I love it. how dose this lens compare to CZ 35m flexigon overall?
Takumars are just so good! Thanks for the great video. Can you please do a video on the Minolta 35mm 1.8 MC Rokkor HH? It looks really promising
Nice! :)
Have a good week!
Did anyone know about etareta camera or etar lens, i would love to know more about it
I have the takumar 35mm 3.5 and would love to upgrade it one day to this f2 version
The F3.5 has a different look, I have both, and they're both excellent imo.
I got one of these, came with my Pentax camera.
proud owner of a yellowed Super Takumar 105mm f2.4 đ
I'd love to buy this lens. Yeah, someday.
I have a question for you sir. Can you do a comparison video on the SMC Takumar 35mm F2 versus the Konica 35mm F2? Thanks.
This is the Super-Multi-Coated... I was looking for Super-Takumar...
Which 35mm f2 lens is better for the price. Fd ssc or takumar
Norway? That's where I live! :-)
I also have that lens. I didn't even know it was one of the radioactive ones, I guess someone did the UV treatment on mine before I bought it. Very nice lens!
My Super-Multi-Coated 35mm f2 definitely had some bloomy highlights, but I haven't noticed it on my Super-Takumar...
I am planning to buy a Super Takumar but couldnât decide 35 or 50 I should buy :(. And that yellowish tint, does it effect the picture color? Also I read that if you leave it under UV light or sunlight for certain amount of time, it will turn white, is that correct?
i have a takumar 50mm, will this happen too
No blood this time?
haha , no I went for a more educational approach
still looking for a cheap one to overhaul and present in my site
If it was - Edit: particularly (pun intended) - radioactive you would need to load film and shoot quickly before exposing/fogging the lot.
The opening sequence here was masterful. Truly wonderful.
Depends on the kind of radiation (alpha, beta, gamma?), its strength and distance, and how well the film is shielded by the metal shutter and body. Since these lenses are said to be legendary, there seem to be no serious problems... Any geiger counter will tell you how radioactive they are.
@@ralfjansen9118 some Canon fd lenses were radioactive too, highest ive ever seen one to have was 65000 cpm
Cant wait for mine to arrive from Japan. My takumar line-up is increasing : 28mm, 35mm, 55mm and 135mm. I just need an 85mm (and some skills đ). Any color grading applied? Sepia notes are noticeable
Did you try the Auto-Takumar 35mm F2.3? I think it is even better.
what do you think, which lens is better this one or canon fd 28mm f2.8 s.c that you also reviewed ?
I would compare the 35 f 2 to a 35 f 2
I need to make the full comparaison between the canon FD and takumar and Konica versions.

beautiful footage. is this sweden ?
Norway :)
I got emotional yo
I have them yay
Hello, I just bought Super Takumar 50mm 1.4 from Tokyo. the seller said I can take international flight with it (but not really sure because of the language barrier) . I just want to make sure is it ok to bring it during International flight?
Check my videos about radioactive lenses
They are harmless and you can travel with them
Seems to show a distinct 3-D look and feel; when comparing to more modern lenses. Do you concur? Or might you have a more profound sense of 3-D effect with other lenses? VERY nice lens. Thanks!
Yes, exactly, there is a nice organic 3D feel for close ups
I said "noo!" to myself quietly when I saw this. I'm excited to see your video, but I've wanted this lens for so long and now I'm worried the prices are going to skyrocket on eBay!
no one watched this video so your pretty safe to buy it for cheap :)
@@MathieuStern Sure... a couple hundred thousand subscribers won't be interested and fighting for this lens now after this video right?
next month iÂŽm gonna make a music video, and i might buy this lens for it. =)
I have the 55mm 1.4 version of this lens and it is a dream to use!! Footage comes out quite similar but is a bit hazyier when wide open!
I also have the 55mm f1.4
I use this lens more and more. Great for night shots. Great for macro with a macro ring.
@@Ronny_van_Gerwen I want a macro ring for mine, I love how it does close ups and being able to get in closer would be awesome!
@@RoseDCLXVI You donât need expensive rings. The only thing to keep in mind when you set it to f1.4 is the very VERY narrow depth of field. But it is razorsharp
@@Ronny_van_Gerwen awesome! I'll check some out! Did you uv treat your lens or keep it tinded from the thorium?
@@RoseDCLXVI I just have an UV and Polarization filter.
This lens vs Canon FD 35mm f2 Concave version.
90% of my lenses are Takumar ... they are wonderfully made lenses.
Olympus OM system lenses, you won't be disappointed.
I love the lens but I honestly am afraid of having it because of its radioactivity. I dont know where to store it and/or if it may contaminate my camera, the camera bag or the cabinet where I usually store my stuff. Could you help me with those concerns? Plus I have a kid (5yo), who often sneaks and uses my camera. Thank you in Advance!
did you watch the video, because I explain whit it's not dangerous in the video.
Intact things like this or uranium glassware or ceramics should be safe (tho the glassware and ceramics can be quite a bit more radioactive than this.) You should however be careful if it breaks, if you notice a crack you should probably put it in a sealed plastic bag to contain any dust if it cracks more. Then contact someone who knows more than me to find out how to dispose of it.
Again as long as it is intact and you are careful to keep it intact it should be fine. (Might want to keep it out of reach of small children however to minimize the risk of it for example being dropped but I feel like this goes for all lenses as they are not exactly cheap things.)
Is it for Full frame sensor?
yes
Yes.
Most old lenses in the common mounts (m39, m42, Pentax, Nikon, canon fd, etc.) cover full frame, that was the common film format. (There are a few exceptions, like some Russian cinema lenses with m42 lenses with super16 or super35 coverage. But those are very rare exceptions)
âSmall sensorâ film lenses typically look weird and come in mounts like C-mount, D-mount, PL, arri.
The yellow tint on the 50/1.4 makes the difference đ€

35mm f1.8 rokkor next ? đ
But Mathieu! Le Crop-Facteur! You use Speed-Boosteur?
No crop factor on a full frame ! Sacrebleu
If you don't feel the radiation burn a little bit, how else would you know it was working?
Hello! Do you have this lens now? If yes, then check it for RADIOACTIVITY with a dosimeter. Some Pentax lenses emit RADIATION. There is no information about Cosmicar 8.5 mm. TV anywhere. You will help me a lot if you fulfill my request.
2 millirem... Not great, not terrible
Send the lens to the infirmary!
Thoriated glass lenses are for babies. My Kiev 86 lens has a Caesium anti-fungal coating that emits 3.6 roentgen per hour. It has an official not great, not terrible rating from the Russian standards institute.
đđ
Strange that radiation turns the glass yellow and human parts hard like a rock!!! (Seriously and Did I drive anyone's attention?)
Might be "hard" to sell a lens named Medusa
