Yeah. No pokemon battles in the ranger series.
You only "capture" wild pokemon by conveying how friendly you are. Convincing them to follow you for a bit and do a small favour for you. Like destroying a rock or melting some ice
Although they do attack sometimes but you don’t have health they just do thing that make them trickier to encircle

The only Pokémon a Ranger keeps are their partner Pokémon, which they have a close bond with
Best way I can describe it is you’re kinda “borrowing” the Pokemon. They only come with you up to certain points and you’re basically like “Hey man, can you douse this thing that’s on fire? Thanks bud! See ya later✌️” Though you do have a partner Pokemon that willingly comes along with you for the remainder of the game. But I think it’s cool that they choose to come with you

you capture the pokemon with the lasso and after that they go on their being free you dont capture capture them
