this is unironically one of my favorite strat tones I have ever heard
For real. Sounds mean as fook! 🤘🏻
I'm of the belief that if you have any type of double locking, floating style trem, you should probably get an afterburner.
Very nice silver burst with black head stock and maple neck. Gorgeous guitar.
Cool mod, the Afterburner sounds great! The other option would be the 24 volt mod, works great with EMG’s.
24v mod is good if you want more natural sounding EMG's. It increases headroom and helps the EMG's sound less compressed.
The thing is that the afterburner can only supports 18V
The JP Music Mans and a few other models have that gain boost too. Pretty cool mod to have onboard.
Really sweet strat , cant go wrong with EMG .
You could also use EMG's PA2 switch for the boost. It's just a mini toggle, so there's no accidental rolling the boost down or anything like that, just a simple on/off switch.
In that other hole you should definitely do a EMG Killswitch ❤️
He left it empty because that volume knob spot gets in the way of the picking hand
Keep up the great content!
Awesome so it’s like having an overdrive button. I love it
Definitely an improvement! I really dig the transformation this Strat is going through to make it your own. I see that you have the Orange Micro Dark out. Haven’t seen that little guy in a while. Are we gonna see some work with it in the future?😀🤘
Go Birds! I’m fixing up an old Squier and want to go single bridge route. Thanks for the video.
Ray, I would talk to Sophia tremolos about replacing the Floyd with one of their 292s to help with sustain. It's a drop in replacement and they even have saddles that can take standard ball strings.
Hey Ray, why every time I watch your vids you keep asking me to subscribe but I am already subscribed, 😂
Great idea for a mod! In a future vid, I'd love to hear more about why you think it's better to have this sort of mod installed on the guitar vs. using a boost pedal. Also, can you still use a boost WITH the Afterburner, or would that be overkill for the guitar and amps and just make the sound muddy?
4:54 Kerry King approves.
I'd suggest a sustain block for the floyd rose as well. I had a Squier Stratocaster with a pretty junk sustain block, and as a result, it didn't. I got a better, more substantial sustain block, and it is one of the cheapest and best mods I've ever made to a guitar.
EMGs are awesome. I thought of getting a passive set with the After Burner like they have with the Alexi Laiho set.
For me with it turned to ten it's great for single note leads. But with chords it's muddy or almost like a fuzz pedal tonally. But I can definitely see engaging it when going from rhythm to a lead section.
Love it!! 🎸
Good lord that sounded good
It’s awesome being a rhythmist guitar player😎🤘🏾
hell ya man ive been saving for an afterburner glad to see its exactly what ive been looking for side note the next mod for that strat is it going to be a kill switch
Emgs always good stuff
im in love with this fender lol
Awesome possum!!!🤘😎👍
I've always been a maple neck strat guy.Was my first guitar I bought so ya know.lol
I love my music mans because they all have boosts, it's weird playing guitars without them now
I think it’s cool how your starting to use Floyd roses more
18v mod really opens up the emg's. Should try it.
Awesome mod
Sounds sweet especially without the backline.
Ray, do you still do vocals? I'd like to see your take on radio hits. Or your take on whatever songs you'd want to do.
You should have tried the Seymour Duncan Heavy metal Live wire pickups, I love mine way better then the EMGs. They sound warmer, yet all the attributes of the Active. I've had mine for almost 30 years and the EMGs for 20 ish give or take. I definitely don't run boost or drive pedals in front of the Live wire. Both my EMGs and Live wires run on 18volt. So for me a pretty fair comparison. The Seymour just sounds better to me. Love your content, Cheers!
Xander what pedals are you using on this vid? 🤙 sounds great
Nice demo! I just wish you tried the clean tones if it adds clarity or just more noise.
Do a review about the Orange micro dark!
Could you use it for volume swells on longer sustained notes? First thing I thought of was Tom Morello.
Let it BURN ❤️🔥
The afterburner kicks ass
What gauge strings do you use for your baritones?
Hello my friend. Your video truly inspired me: I modded my strat with the emg sl20 pickguard and I also bought the emg afterburner but I discovered that I cannot install it on a pre wired pickguard. Any suggestions my friend?
I have all my EMG equipment ready to assemble into my parts caster. Unfortunately i find out i have to have surgery soon and won't be able to play for a bit. The body I have to use just sucks but it's all i could afford on a VA disability.
I used the 24 volt mod too. They really rock up around 18 and above
I’ve done both and that mod really opens them up and gives you more headroom and “openness” (God, I hate guitar lingo haha). I ended up going back to 9v in all of them, though. I love the punch and compression of standard 9v EMG’s. That’s why I liked them in the first place. The mod did make a surprising amount difference, though. I thought it was BS until I tried it myself.
@@michaelnugent9758 i traded my last EMG guitar a couple days ago I have one with fishmans and a dozen with passives
What gauges are you running on that, Ray?
I have a MIJ jackson DKMG from 2006 with EMG turbo boost (which is in fact the old version of EMG afterburner) and 2 EMG H3's ; I saw on the afterburner notice that they said it can handle 18V for a cleaner boost . I love the sound of the H3 itself but with the afterburner I 'm a bit disapointed . All I wanted to know is that if you have already try an afterbuner in 18V with EMG HZ ? Thanks .
I wonder if upgraded Floyd parts from fu tone like a block would help with sustaine.. they claim they do but I'm not a Floyd guy
What types of pickups are those? Emg I know, but are they a specific set? I just bought the Kirk Hammett kh20 set that looks exactly like it, and I was interested in dropping an afterburner in and get rid of the universally useless tone pot...
Dime squeals on a strat? Epic
Did you get this HSS setup as a pickguard kit? Or did you install those yourself? I have a Jackson super strat with an HSS setup, and I just bought an 81 EMG humbucker and two active EMG SA singles.
I bought them separate. I got the 81 humbucker from guitar center, and I ordered the two single coils from Sweetwater.
But I, for the life of me, can't find a video on this HSS setup. Not even on the EMG page.
How much noise does this add?
Is this essentially the same as what Alexi Laiho had with his EMGs?
Hey Ray, is this really that much more effective than just using a boost pedal?
You're not boosting the pickup w/a boost pedal, therefor the frequency-band boost would be wildly different & far less targeted.
Just put some 81 85's in my Epiphone SG Standard and kicks ass.
Yup I want one now asa0
have you 24v modded it?
Oh yes ..i modified my Luxe FR. ..emg 85, sa, sa, volume pot 20db boost...no tone 5 way switch
are you from philly? i couldn't help but notice the eagle on your hat,you know , cause it was on your head, i only ask cause i'm from philly, that strat sounds rippin by the way
Can i send you a emg knob to get rid of that top hat knob looks goofy I have a bunch it wouldnt be an issue lol
Man, I'd reach out to Rob Arnold from Chimaira. He's a whiz with Floyds. He could probably give you some tips for sustain. I personally wont use Floyds, so i cannot help.
Bro you know what I else would add a shit ton of sustain…..a brass block. Fu-Tone has a bunch of videos you can check out. A/B it all.
Pickup distance makes a big difference
Fix that volume knob bro!
EMG Afterburner
Hmm? Funny how my strat has no issues with sustain at all?. Mine is bone stock 🤘
Pickup height? Just saying output shouldn't be am issue with EMG'S
Right against the strings, as close I can get them without them hitting the pickup. This guitar just lacks natural sustain
@@xanderraymondcharles That might be the issue. You don't want the strings too close to the magnets.
@@xanderraymondcharles lol fair enough
@@xF1revolution yeah magnets could pull in the strings but not usually an issue with active pickups... magnets aren't as strong
@@xanderraymondcharles Have you considered replacing the trem block with brass? I replaced the alloy one in my schecter Synyster Gates and the amount of vibration transfer into the rest of the guitar increased drastically. It feels like if you laid the guitar down, and plucked the strings, the guitar would vibrate off of the table from the transfer. It also feels like I have more dynamic attack between soft picking and riffing hard. You can really feel and hear a difference. Can't recommend it enough if you haven't already tried it.
Sounds awesome!
Aesthetically, that painted headstock is the only turn off for me.
Painted headstock is the best part, aesthetically the maple fretboard is the worse for sure
@@FeckUpFearzy yeah, rosewood or ebony would look a little bit more cohesive.
I never understand when people talk about headstocks. I could care less about them
@@FeckUpFearzy For sure. Silver burst and a jet black ebony board is just… *chef’s kiss*
Полунегр какой-то😂
Not too shabby bro..
