Great video and great playing. You have great taste! Anyone who is into Mike Bloomfield is a serious blues guitar player. He was a highly influential, extremely talented guitarist, unfortunately with a tragically short life. He is not appreciated today like he should be.

One could argue that pre Super Session Mike had a tendency to overplay. Now, Mike overplaying is still better than 99% of the things out there, but letting notes breathe is what hits the spot..I think Greeny was king of this. But cue "His Holy Modal Majesty" and does he play his arse off...
      RIP MIKE

I knew Michael; He'd tell you to play your blues but he also said often that he was all B.B.King! I saw Michael Jam with BB and Super Session at the Fillmore East, that was an incredible night as were all the Super Session gigs I attended. Go listen to Maryann as that is some of his sweetest most subtle playing also listen to Between a Hard place and The Ground the way he kicks that off soloing. You're doing great playing Eddie and couldn't be following a better mentor even if he's no longer with us..

Nice to see Bloomfield being "kept alive" by the younger generation. I'm 69 and remember the Electric Flag days like it was yesterday. I have most of his recordings and just bought the box set that has the documentary with Carlos Santana, Bill Graham, etc speaking about him. He was so intelligent. Such as shame he died. He had so much more to give us.

I could hear one or two notes and know it was Mile. That Whole step bend with vibrato most iconic Michael Bloomfield.
If you're not a Bloomfield fan then you're not familiar with his work. He was one of the finest guitarist of his generation.
Not convinced? Listen to him on Janis Joplin's, "One Good Man" and you will understand what a monster that kid was.

  • @whimpypatrol5503

Bloomfield was realy underrated. Clapton took the wind out of Bloomfield's sail with volume screeching marshalls. No doubt, Carlos Santana's greatest influence came from Bloomfield before he moved from blues, aka Santana blues band, to latin Influenced rock. That's when blues pretty much disappeared from pop music.

Nice video. Bloomfield had several iconic phrases. These seem less iconic than some of the ones I enjoy most. Ever heard him play MaryAnn? Near end of solo listen for quick burst of notes reminiscent of Eric Clapton's signature lick that he milks. Mike played it once and that was enough for him. Milking fast phrases was not his style unlike SRV, Clapton and the myriad players that followed. He had an musical honesty that puty musicality over showmanship. Love Clapton, SRV, Albert King, Robbin. 2 cents worth.

Really nice job Brooks!! Ive been playing guitar for quite a while but just started listening to Bloomfield. I have so many other influences that reference Bloomfield I just thought I wouldn't pick up a lot. But that was really stupid - i should have listened long ago! He is phenomenal but moire than technically awesome it's his (probably chemically induced) energy. He really lived the Blues and it's great to see a young man like yourself also interested in the Blues and Blues Giants! Subscribed! All the best.

I’ve often noticed differences in the compliance of strings (articles have been written on this recently, some have referred to this as “tension” but thats not technically accurate) when changing the break angle behind the bridge. I notice the biggest differences myself going between the maestro or using the bridge as a wraparound on my ‘67 Gibson [SG] Melody Maker, or when using a “buzzstop” on a Fender Jaguar/Jazzmaster.
Nice “conversion” btw, ditching the poker chip and using the trapeze give it an early look. I got the Historic truss cover for my 2005 standard so I can dig it.

get a guitar strap stop being so nervous and play some real Bloomfield licks. i know he changed my whole style of playing when i heard super session and as the great Santana said " when i heard Michael play he changed my life"

Thanks Johnny, I will get a strap soon. However, if you truly know Miichael, he was nervous all the time partly because he was on a lot of drugs lol Listen to him as he introduces the band at the fillmore and you can tell he was really nervous and spaced out. So just trying to be more like Mike I guess. Take care.

Ignore the comments concerning guitar straps. He was also known for not using a guitar case.

Brooks, many thanks for your love of Mike. That being said, you offer nothing with respect to insight as to his approach. Last, get rid of that Les Paul. It appears to be a early 50's trapeze model. Sell it to a collector.

Doesn't look like an early LP to me. It doesn't have the dished maple top, and the trapeze tailpiece isn't original. I owned a '52, and it has a whole different look.

Thanks denAlexVA, But before Mike owned his 59 lp he traded his tele to get a early 50s goldtop before trading that one for the 59. There's a couple pics on google. But, I am keeping this bad boy. best guitar ive owned. Thanks for the kind words! Have a great day!
