  • Hello ladies and gentlemen and thank you very much for all the encouragement to keep on making these videos and I am here to tell you I’ll keep on making these videos as long as you enjoy them and you are learning, this is a run-on sentence, and I am not well- versed in grammar 🤣🤣🤣🤣
    But the point being here is, I will be splitting up some of these videos because they are going to be quite long and lots of information I can throw down and voiceover commentary, so if you are enjoying this, let me know and I appreciate you all for being here and watching till the next one which will be coming up pretty soon.

    Mister Stig; you are on fire man! Your somebody who just digs what he does cause you like planes like me. Your job is so very critical, and because your a pro, the company you work for should pay you in gold.     just a day ago, passenger steal off the safety belt from the seat when disembark. New Boarding completed a passenger call the flight crew and said " i have not the safety belt", unbelievable. I had to rush with a brand new safety belt and installed with all the eyes on me.

    The cup of coffee and a baseball cap are the two necessities of being an AP or ground maintenance mechanic. The two things that suck working outside is working at a cold weather airport when it’s below zero and windy or in the middle of summer at a hot weather airport. Although, I got my best tan working at ORD. Jet fuel is a great suntan lotion…

      Have to be careful, wearing a baseball cap around running engines though if it sucked off your head and sucked into the engine then it’s not a good day for you just saying

      I used to work out of Columbus, and we got both extremes. Summer on the ramp in a t-shirt and shorts and sweating buckets, then -14 in the winter with ice frozen in my beard and a mg light stuck to my lips. Never had any coffee on the ramp, but ruined plenty of baseball caps.

    1m21s was an Aero Union A306 (A300-600). They're a Mexican cargo airline that operates a small fleet of A306s and B762. You can mostly see them at MIA.

    When I started at American in Tulsa on the 727's and the first time I saw the cabin and flight deck completely gutted on a heavy C check I thought to myself there's no way in hell this is going back together and have everything work like it should. Well 30 days later and presto everything was reassembled better than it came apart. I often would tell people that if the flying public could see one of these gutted out they'd never want to fly again... LOL. Being retired now for 11 years at times I miss working on these birds and some of the great people I worked with, but I'm really enjoying retirement. You should make a video on what's it like traveling non-rev and the headaches it causes sometimes. People think just because we work for an airline we can automatically get on board... don't we wish. I remember the first time my wife and I got in first class she said this is awesome and can get use to it. I told her well don't expect it every time because it doesn't work that way... LOL. I was so proud to work for AA as my father worked there for almost 45 years and absolutely loved it. Sadly he passed away before i started working there but he would have been so proud that his son followed in his footsteps. Thank you for making these great videos and bringing back great memories for me!

And yes indeed the non rev life is definitely an adventure, but I can’t complain.. in 25 years I have flown literally around the world more time then I can count.. for free. lol.     Once you get the Aviation bug in your system, it will never leave. I left the industry 20 years ago after working in the field as an A&P, avionics technician for 24 years. It’s so true that you still look up at the sky when you hear a jet. Great industry except for some of the negatives associated with it. But I do miss it.

    I’ve been waiting for someone to do a channel like this. I took a second job as a baggage handler so I could be around airplanes. I did it until I was burned out physically. For 12 year I worked 18 hour days. This video reminds me of my days in the ramp. I loved loading aircraft and pushing back. Seeing the passengers faces excited to travel.

      @@StigAviation I had no choice after I left the Navythe airlines were not hiring they were laying off people or going out of business. Then Sept 11 happened. I’m happy with my career choice I make a very good living and had a job no matter the economy. However aviation is my passion. I was hitting the job market at the worst time in aviations history. I know guys who were F-14 pilots who once they left the Navy they never flew again. It was that bad. At DL I knew aircraft by tail numbers and cycles/hours. When I could I would read the log books. I even talked maintenance into letting ride jump seat for a repo. I have 4 years before I hit retirement. God willing l may return or enjoy being relatively young and retired. I have 21 years commuting and working. I’m keeping an open mind.

    Stig could you make a video to explain the nitrogen generator sistem? I know it is difficult to show without disassemble the aircraft but try to do your best. Evriting in your channel is fantastic but the most beautiful thing is your enthusiasm. Keep it at full thrust and never lose your passion

    I Just Got my both my Airframe & PowerPlant and have begun looking For employment and I am so Glad at what you said at The beginning about how it was A 3 day work week 1-8 hour shift & 2-16 hour shifts I am The Type who likes to Get all work done while I am already There especially since because of where I am it would probably be at least 2 hour commutes everyday

      Yup. Nowadays in the airlines.. it’s very flexible with how they do things. So many ways to swap shifts and optimize days on and off.

    Love your videos! Working two 16-hour shifts in one week mightn't allow much time for smelling any roses though :-)
    I work a similar mission-critical job to you, but I'm in a public hospital, looking after defective humans. We aren't allowed to work such long shifts because, as you know, statistics prove all humans fail to accurately function, or follow procedure, when forced to endure extended, dangerous high-stress shifts. Pilots aren't permitted to do it so why are engineers?

      Well, it comes down to a very interesting gray area, according to state law, you have to have at least 7.5 hours in between shifts, so legally we are allowed to work 16 hour shifts. As for fatigue, yes, it does happen in time of time, but that falls under you or the person working, taking care of themselves properly Which I do. If there was ever a factor that I know, I cannot perform my duties, trust me, I will clock out and go home. I will never compromise the safety of my aircraft, nor the souls on board.

      I worked at Mcdonnell Douglas on the MD 80s which you guys had a lot at one time so maybe I am dating myself just a bit

      Well Remy the CSD is a bit of old technology at this point.. aircraft engines have transitioned to IDG (integrated drive generator). Ask for changing the filters it’s usually done on A checks or any other heavy checks. We also would change them out if the Delta P indicator had popped out, which I think you know, is the filter clog indicator

    What a very interesting video!!! As a licensed automotive dealership technician employed in the industry for North of thirty years, and recently became very fascinated with aircraft and flying, this video really gives me an excellent close up look at the insides of these very interesting machines. I guess Boeing and Airbus are the two biggest aircraft manufacturers in the industry.

    He's right. Turbines rarely, if ever, need lube oil changes. The oil's just strained, centrifuged, filtered etc. True of steam turbines, power gas turbines, and aviation gas turbines. AlI of 'em.

    Interesting is that from the tower where I work I can see a bit of smoke coming from the wheel well after takeoff DURING gear retraction, that must be the wheels stopping

      The smoke that you’re seeing is actually the brake dust getting blown off on rotate.

      First of all, thank you very much. I’m glad you are enjoying the videos, I do apologize for the vertical format of shooting my videos, I usually use my phone and I just document few clips here and there when I have a chance. I don’t have professional equipment, and sometimes it’s just difficult to turn the phone sideways while I walk around. I know it’s a bit of a pain, but it does look nice on your mobile device or phone. In the future I’ll try to figure something out. That works better on a horizontal video format. But I appreciate you being here and watching.

    Interesting to see the life rafts in the 737 Stig, fl9wn on the 737 a few times and never saw where they were stowed, were the engines on the 777 GE90s that is my favourite jet. I would l9ve to fly on one, looking forward to your next video stig

    The pilot monitoring will also do a walk around of the aircraft before they depart. The more eyes looking the safer flying is.

      Yes, indeed they do, everybody has their responsibility. But a pilot will not see the level of detail that I see. So it’s important for maintenance to do the walk around way before the pilot gets there.

      I got a really good one for you, so, if you are ever in the flight deck of a 777, look up above the pilots seat towards the flight deck door, you’ll see a black rectangular little box within the overhead panel, tell me what you think that is ?

      16s can be a pain at times , but I have the habit of keeping myself busy with my work. Help out the other mechanics if there’s issues, during downtime I walk around or read my manuals. The hardest part is the back to back 16s.. but get me to work and clock in and a hot cup of coffee ☕️ I’m good to go 🤙

      It comes in attachable pods lol. But on a serious note the Navy has a variant of the 737 called the P-8 Poseidon that carries torpedoes in what would've been the cargo compartment

    Pretty sure that was an Aerounion A-300 (F4-600) not an A-310. The 310 is noticeably shorter.

      There are parking numbers, but sometimes there are so many aircraft and keeping track of them becomes a little bit overwhelming.

    I think wlke around starts from L1 door then you chk your nose lift side then nose doom you go to right side of the acft LDG ENG WINGS Fuselage till action withe APU AREA THIN GO L/H SIDE ALL THE WAY TO YOUR START L1 Door that’s the correct way. Not like what you did correct me if I’m wrong

      There no wrong way of doing a walk around my friend. As long as you do it thoroughly. There is a suggestion guide to help new mechanics, but for someone like be.. I can start my walk around anywhere and I’ll still see everything I need to see. As I said, it takes experience. The was you do your walk around is also correct.. so keep up the good work 👍

      Nothing at all. We have been doing this for decades. We get plenty of down time to rest and take care of ourselves properly. And we work as a team. Not only does the aircraft have redundancy but so do we. Human redundancy where we double check our work.

    Then once we get into the terminal forget it, if i get to see a 717 or one of my NEO Engines. @ 8:00 mr. Stig. The Norwegian 787 stops me in my tracks. I also write messages to my wife on our pylons cause she works in our test area as an engineer.

      Oh, I could care less about the safety cards, you can take them. Cleaning crew usually replaces them when missing, but I have seen people take life vest, seatbelts, ashtrays things of that nature. That’s what I meant.

      I get plenty of breaks in between all of those hours, I’m not constantly working, there is a lot of downtime in between flights.

      I work at LAX, and usually I work the Tom Bradley international and Terminal 4, the gate 131 area is on the other side of the airport, so it’s a bit of a hassle to drive all the way there. That’s what I meant.

      Just depends on cost effectiveness of the aircraft. If it cost more to maintain then a new aircraft then they will either sell it or scrap it.

      Well it’s oil based so I would assume it is. But I’m no chemist.. couldn’t give you an accurate answer.

      @@StigAviation yeah I was working on a Versalift bucket truck and they require “non conductive” hyd oil. So in the process of finding the correct hyd oil, I went down a google rabbit hole. Something about airplanes use the “non conductive” due to a higher flash point ? But thanks, and great channel

    When the 737 is left unattended, but on ground power, is the battery switch off?

      Yes. We usually take the battery off line. This is in case the ground power cord drops out in advertently, we don’t want the battery to drain, the ground power is sufficient enough to provide the bare minimum lights for interior crew.

      Also, with the batt switch off and ground power switch off, one can have cabin lights via the ground service bus switch in the forward cabin.
      In the Boeing, with the IRUs powered off, there is not much time savings for the next crew by having the AC transfer busses powered vs having them start from cold/dark and starting with battery on, then selecting ground power on.

      That was my point. If the IRUs are powered off, there is not much point in leaving the transfer buses powered when the aircraft is unattended.
      At some airlines, if a crew swap is occurring, the oncoming crew can simply perform a quick alignment by switching to allign, then back to Nav. This saves about 5 minutes.

It’s not the same like it was before I’ve been doing this for the past 25 years and I love every moment of it. Not every day is going to be perfect but I still love my job.       @@gev340 the older type ratings I have but obviously I don’t use anymore (because our fleet doesn’t have those aircraft) are the B747, B727, MD80, L1011, B757, B767 and A330. I’ll probably never use those again. But it was a good experience back in the days when I was working on those.

      MH370 is most definitely not lost.. it’s just not told to us as the people, where it is. You can’t just make a 777 disappear like a fart in the wind. But that going into conspiracy theories and I can’t speak on such things. I just know the 777 and how it works.. ask any mechanic that works it… you can’t just lose the aircraft like that.

      @@StigAviation true that I was being sarcastic lol and I agree with you due to the fact that parts and items are showing up on beaches or it’s lies .. there is a good documentary with a scientist that is investigating the barnacles found on the parts they found to determine the life of these barnacles and were they thrive at as far depth and temperatures in the water etc. to try and confirm some facts about this sad story..
