    It will begin to refill after this wet western slope year tons of snowpack. The low levels of the reservoir
    is a combination of the Arizona Project taking more water and the drought of the last decade. We waste
    so much water in the form of DUMB grass lawns in suburbia. Lawns should be illegal in desert climates.

Look on the other side.... it goes way deeper... it can hold more but that doesn’t mean it’s drying up. A couple good rain falls up river and it will be fine.

    good luck on the lake refilling itself, the colorado is a choked up mess with less than half of historical flow, river has large areas of silt filled up and down the river. Arizona has its paws in the lake mead supply as well, with I believe the saudies are growing food nfor their own country since they used their own water resources. check into this, they are using az ground water for their own countries use, forcing az to buy into lake mead/colorado river. this sucks, but it's true.unless this country comes together with a huge project of diverting flood water from the midwest to the colorado river and on to western water reservoirs. we can dig ditches, bore tunnels, some places bring the pipeline above ground. the benefits of a project would be huge. less flooding, far fewer claims for flooding, less destruction, some new jobs for a while, etc. etc. Everybody meaning all states and feds get involved and help with the cost. right off the top of my head legalize weed, the taxes and money from that would be huge. stop putting people in prison for weed. save that for murderers, rapists, and child molesters, and 3rd strike burglers and theives. just some ideas for people to muddle with

    I think maybe Las Vegas built a huge underground reservoir to ensure it has a ready and bountiful supply. Once that underground reservoir is topped off, things should resume back to normal.
    At least, let's hope that's what happened.

    • @dmannevada5981

      @@1Ocqueoc well actually, the huge underground water Reserve did happen. Nevada has stored essentially 7 years of water usage Underground as a reserve.

    • @dmannevada5981
      @dmannevada5981 Před 5 lety

      @@1Ocqueoc Nobody said the excavated anything. The geology reports commissioned by the SNWA told them exactly where they could store the water and of course with a geology would accept it. Of course, some of that went into part of Arizona( which is why both States entered into the agreement to do it). Lastly, if you say 20 years is a long time, ok. The origins of that agreement go back to the mid-1990s. It also wasn't simply about replenishing the aquifer, the SNWA also recognized it would reduce evaporation, hence increasing its water supply.

    • @dmannevada5981
      @dmannevada5981 Před 5 lety

      @@1Ocqueoc While I'll admit the numbers are tricky(technical), Nevada actually Banks about 100,000af of water every year. That happens because of conservation, and the fact that Southern Nevada now recycles much of its water, returning it to the reservoir(receiving credit from the BLM). In fact, the last data that I've seen is...Southern Nevada recycles about 93% of its water. The seven-year number is simply based off the fact that it's essentially the amount of water currently stored, and what Southern Nevada would use over seven years if it didn't get one drop from the Colorado River going forward. The fact is, the water Banked has essentially guaranteed Southern Nevada's Water Supplies until 2050 when you factor the Banked water, and the projected draft from the Watershed. Nevada has so much water banked, it has repeatedly sold some of it to California,(the last time was 2016/2017 I believe). You don't have to believe me, you can simply Google it. I'm repeating myself, but because of the massive conservation that has gone on, and the water credits received because of it, Nevada isn't even close to using its full allotment, which is only 2%(flow rate) to begin with. A couple of caveats... S. Nevada has reduced usage by 1/3 with a population of over two million, then when its population was 600,000. Think about that. In addition, Southern Nevada jumped on the conservation, reclamacion, and recycling long before other western states did. It was never about drought, climate change, the elevation of the water in the reservoir (the water is actually owned by Arizona and California anyways), whatever. The policy change came about because of the understanding that Nevada received such a small water allocation, it understood that it had to get into massive conservation for the city to ever grow, knowing it was highly unlikely the allocation would ever be increased. Lastly, just to be technical, Mexico's water allocation is actually stored in Lake Mohave, not Lake Mead. It's why Lake Mohave's elevation never changes, as it's water rights are guaranteed on demand per the compact. That's the story, Google what you need to Google if you don't believe it.

      Dman Nevada yes. The inflow comes from snow melt-offs each year. In an average summer a lake in the dessert should lose some of the of water in evaporation. But the rains from other places and snow should make the difference. In fact it did for a long time. No over population is the main culprit.
      The lake is deep enough and narrow enough (despite being large) that evaporation shouldn’t be that big of an issue. The Colorado River use to flow into the lake almost year round. Now days they are lucky for a trickle.

      A tunnel heading will connect intake No 3 with intake No 2.
      Intakes 1 and 2 are not interconnected and connection between Intakes 2 and 3
      allow pump station 2 to pump water from intake tunnel 2 or 3 with
      better quality of water coming from the deeper Intake 3.
      source= CBSNews
      LAS VEGAS -- September 24, 2015 the intake was unplugged Wednesday to
      finish flooding an $817 million tunnel and complete a complicated and
      perilous "Third Straw" project to draw drinking water for Las Vegas from
      a shrinking Lake Mead.
      An 8.6-ton steel ball was hoisted to a barge, Southern Nevada Water
      Authority spokesman Bronson Mack said, in essence pulling the plug on a massive lake-bottom structure built somewhat like a big bathtub drain."It's a milestone. We're ready for operation," project chief Jim Nickerson,
      of Vegas Tunnel Constructors, said ahead of the final act in the six-year project.
      The next step will be completion in 2020 of a third pumping station.
      That job begins next month and will cost another $650 million.
      Anyway, lets just say something is going on at the bottom of the lake. ;-)

Why don't they build a water pipeline to the dry States of America? Our governments say they don't know what to do about the excess water? When the water is high we can send it south and when it's normal we close the valve. I doubt even the tree huggers won't try to stop the pipeline from being built being it's only water!! There are groups who are trying to to convince the Powers That Be to remove the Glen Canyon Dam to let all of the water it stores in Lake Powell be stored instead in Lake Mead. I would rather have a set of pipes installed at the base of the Glen Canyon Dam that could be shut off when the next wet cycle comes around. Or reopen the side tunnels that were built before the dam was constructed to divert the Colorado River's flow while the dam was being built (this would probably be easier than installing the pipes) which, again, could be closed again when the next wet cycle comes around. The side tunnels were closed after the dam was completed. This is a standard thing that is done when building dams like the Glen Canyon and Hoover dams. Of course closing these pipes or tunnels assumes we, humans, are still here when the next wet cycle come around.
