  • With his full-length ballet Onegin, John Cranko secured his place in the pantheon of great 20th century choreographers. Based on Alexander Pushkin’s dramatic verse novel „Eugen Onegin“, he tells the story of the arrogant and world weary aristocrat Onegin who rejects the love of the naïve country girl Tatiana only to realize - upon meeting her again years later - that in her he threw away the only woman who ever truly loved him. On the occasion of its 50th anniversary the Stuttgarter Ballett has come up with a special cast featuring Alicia Amatriain as Tatjana, Friedemann Vogel as Onegin, Elisa Badenes as Olga, David Moore as Lenski, Jason Reilly as Prince Gremin, Melinda Witham as Madame Larina and no other than the wonderful Marcia Haydée as nurse.

    the way she is running around at the very end it's a little creepy....but Friedemann's acting is EXQUISITE!!! Sooo genuine...so truthful.....

      Her acting was amazing too... she danced according to choreography, it has nothing to do with acting

    I just ordered DVD, glad found it. Love Oniegin story of Pushkin and love Tchaikovsky's music and Cranko's choreography is the best. I don't like the modernized versions. PS. I love my DVD.. recording is perfect, nice clarity focus, lots of close-ups so I can see all facial expressions, nice booklet with all the information and a second, bonus DVD that is almost 2 hours. I also have one from Bolshoi with Smirnova and Lantratov and recording is sloppy, blurry, no focus, looks like recorded from a mile away, no close-ups and it's impossible to see the faces and expressions. No booklet or information of any kind.

      As far as I know he danced some ballets with Semionova, not Smirnova, and not Onegin, where did you see it?

    • @mathildewesendonck7225
      @mathildewesendonck7225 Před 4 lety +1

      BytomGirl yes, of course he also performs with Semionova, as they are both in German companies. But they haven’t done Onegin together, as far as I know. Friedemann performs with so many different ballerinas, he’s one of the best male dancers after all.
      There was a documentary on German television about Friedemann. He traveled to Moscow to dance Onegin with Olga Smirnova. They portrayed their rehearsals, they had never met before and had to go straight to the studio and work on Onegin. Very little time, next day was stage rehearsal and performance.
      The documentary was basically about Friedemann Vogels life as a dancer with all his invitations to other companies. The television crew accompanied him for one year and filmed his performances in Tokyo, Stockholm, Moscow, Stuttgart etc.

      Wouldn't there be a clip somewhere of that Onegin? There nothing anywhere on internet as far as I have seen, many it was intended but never happened, otherwise there would be something to be found.
