Thank you for listening 🤘 This feels like the first time I've been real in my career of nothing but clickbait. Hopefully the CZcams algorithm doesn't punish me and I can continue making stuff like this.
So excited! This is my favorite thing you've ever put out, so happy for you \m/ >_< \m/
Don't sell your soul to youtube. It is a cruel master.
Whatever the case, you deserve recognition for all this and more, this is a hell of an accomplishment.
Been jamming to this since my copy arrived in the mail. I sincerely hope you get to keep making the music you want to make, you deserve everything!
This is fantastic! You are such a talented artist. Glad you put this out!
So, because I have too much free time, I reorganized the tracklist into a story arc.
1. Jetpack Race (31:47) Our protagonist is in a dead end job as a worker in a crippling futuristic monarchy. His only solace is in the planetwide jetpack races. One day, he says fuck it and joins the races, winning and cementing his place in high society.
2. Hyperspeed (11:53) The protagonist meets a beautiful woman who brings him comfort in the cutthroat and corrupt nobility he's found himself in. He takes her on a hyperspeed date where they fall in love.
3. Army of Tigers (16:28) The Mad King of Earth decides to go to war with the Sun. He creates an Army of Tiger mechs to crush the sun's core. No one thinks this is a good idea but he's the King.
4. Storm the Castle (20:35) The protagonist refuses to stand for this and forms an rebellion to take down the Mad King. The fighting is fierce but the protagonist fails and the Sun has its core crushed. He is seperated from his lover. The rebellion is ruined.
5. Final Frontier (39:09) Several Arks set off for a new planet, hoping to find somewhere new after the destruction of Earth. The Mad King still reigns but some of the Arks are not pleased with his rule.
6. 10,000 Light-years (35:27) Some of the Arks tear away from the Mad King's flagship and get lost in the wilds of space, hoping to create their own society. The prisoner ship the protagonist is on gets stranded on Alpha Centauri and all he can think of is his lover.
7. Starship Velociraptor (24:02) A wandering alien pirate fleet offers to sell the protagonist and the remaining stragglers of the rebellion a ship. They take it.
8. Man the Cannons (27:52) The rebellion learn how to work the ship, become pirates in their own right, and decide to launch an assault to liberate the colony of New Earth from the Mad King's tyranny.
9. Glory or Gold (0:00) The campaign is growing more and more powerful. Many of the Arks team up to take down the King and restore the people to their former glory. Finally, only one obstacle remains, taking the Mad King's head.
10. Settle It With a Swordfight (8:02) The final showdown for the fate of New Earth begins. The protagonist has a swordfight with the Mad King and wins, freeing his people forever and rescuing his love.
11. Best Band in the Universe (3:30) Rather than becoming the new King, the protagonist takes to space as a traveling musician, love at his side. His most loyal crewmates form his band to fill the corners of their galaxy with their righteous tunes.
And yeah. That's my idea for the story of this album.
This is plain genius. I'd also rather be in the BEST BAND IN THE UNIVERSE than rule a galaxy.
This....this is incredible. Dude that is such an amazing storyline!! GET THIS MAN TO THE TOP!!!
This is amazing. I can't not upvote this.
I love it.
Up vote. Comment. Boost this incredible story line.
“We’ve been trying to reach you about your starship’s extended warranty.”
I kind of wish this album had an associated feature length movie to watch. It sounds like an epic story.
Did you watch the best band in the universe animation
Like Interstellar: 5555
Well, it isnt. Some of them songs dont fit one another. This is also but a sumarisation of his best songs, not a proper album. There is one wich also has "Man the Cannons" in it, its completly about them pirate songs.
Or how would a fury race destroying their king fit into a perfect society that has jetpack races in the future or even earth getting destroyed by a core explosion? I think not at all. 2 of them songs have their own animation at least so there is that (Final Frontier and Storm the Castle)
@@christianresel8051 By definition, and album is "a collection of recordings issued as a single item on CD, record, or another medium." (via Oxford Languages), there is no such thing as a "proper album". Anyone can put any song into an album, and it will still be an album. None of the songs have to fit a theme, or anything like that. Anyone saying it does is objectively wrong, as you don't need any of that.
Having it fit with theme or genre is only for consistency, plus, it would suck to hear country or pop on a metal album, but there's no law saying it has to be like that, therefore your statement about ait not being a "proper album" is wrong, since no song has to fit together for it to be an album.
And no, saying it's not a "proper album" isn't subjective, since it implies that there is some rule or medium that HAS to be followed to make it an actual album. using that term, implies you think you're objectively correct, of which, you are not. A theme makes it better, and more effective/interesting, but as far as I could tell, there is no rule or law saying such, so unless it is in a contract with a music company, what you have stated is objectively wrong.
wat h gurren lagann, same feel

Jonathan Young: consequently the best musician in the universe.

As the best band in the universe once said; "Rock so hard it fuckin' hurts"
I've listened to the album but I don't understand what you mean.
@@redforest9269 depending on how connected you think the other tracks are, it moves from just "haha cog in the wheel let's escape daily life struggles through a fun jet pack race" to "this is a society that is undergoing impending ecological and societal ruin and revolution and this is a guy who has given up on trying to find solutions."
in context of the "Final Frontier", lyrics like, "you know we're all the same; the world's a joke and life's a game and even altogether we're alone" is even darker.
@@subversiveasset While I don't disagree with your interpretation, I don't think the songs are all that connected. An album with ridiculous, over the top songs like Army of Tigers, Best Band in the Universe and the titular Starship Velociraptor doesn't strike me as one that would weave all the songs together with one narrative. Not to say an album can't have a cohesive narrative while also being balls to the wall dumb fun at times, but that's my take on it.
If the CZcams algorithm doesn’t suggest this to more people, I’m going to settle this with a swordfight
I over 9000% agree
A swordfight against an algorithm? That would make a great over the top music video! I mean settle it with a swordfight has non so far( I think).
MF I had to search this up
Need some help.
@@ellyneil8219 for what?
Glory or Gold puts me in a mood so hype I can't even explain it. Just fills me with energy and joy instantly.
Best Band in the universe is just so ridiculously over the top and that ending just absolutely unleashes my sides into orbit
Settle it with a swordfight puts me in mood to watch 80s action movies. The drums are so on point rocking my feet into rhythm!
Hyperspeed tickles me down to the bottom of my gut and just hyping up so well. It just builds constantly and doesn't fucking let you go, dragging you along in a musical adventure.
Army of Tigers gives me the feeling of a fucking neon Doom-like game just running through this whole cyberpunk-ish jungle and then you hear the lyrics... And I'm floored from laughter that I can't breathe.
Storm the castle, like a synth-filled power metal love letter to Sabaton while fully embracing what makes you special as an artist Jonathan. Absolutely amazing.
Starship Velociraptor yet again continues the trend of Glory or Gold and Hyperspeed. Once again opening the adventure sense. But unlike those two that seemed to individually focused on the purpose, and the journey. This seems to lock down a goal of some sort. Like Undertale, it fills me with determination.
Man The Cannons is like Sea Shanty turned into metal and invites you to sing along. Gives me feelings of unity, and definitely seems to catch a crowd inviting them to sing or roar along. Very pirate, very space, very shanty. Fucking love it!
Jetpack Race seems like an outlier in the theme of the album, but welcome as an outlier, for while it seems like an outlier, it holds onto the same spirit of the rest. A spirit of adventure. Taking a chance. Seek your dreams.
Ten thousand light years, the space metal ballad required of any good metal album. Keeping both theme and spirit of the rest but also serving to slow things down for the big finish.
Final Frontier slows things down again, knowing you've been rocking out for a while. This is the destination of the journey. Then it just slowly picks up, giving that feel of a journey ended with it's heavy drumming slams and tones. It's a journey well spent. A promise fulfilled. A dark song, but one that promises more.
The pace of the album is perfect, it starts high and keeps the pace throughout all the songs. Each one setting up the next in line so very perfectly. Jetpack Race is the only outlier. And it slows down very well to give a good sense of fulfillment and one chapter of the story closed... But setting up for more.
Absolutely brilliant work, Jonathan Young. I'm so glad I noticed you. And so glad I follow you. I could hear renewed energy in every song. And it warms my heart.
Great rundown of the vibes, props to you Bob.
Such a great review
i believe army of tigers is a reference to the million lions vs the sun meme xD
you left out how Starship Velociraptor is just a catchy add
I was going to write a lengthy comment detailing how Jonathan is a musical genius, but someone beat me to it.
Three more things-
1. He made his own genre. 2080's melodic power metal (with some major funk)
2. Starship velociraptor might be a hyperbole of adds pushing sales, or maybe I'm overthinking it. Either way, it's a bitchin' ride, and Jonathan would make a great car salesman, if he didn't have so much soul.
3. Someone give me a link to buy this album please.
"Man the cannons, draw your sword, they'll remember us forever more!" 🤘🤘🔥🔥
CZcams algorithm: "I aint recommending this."
Army of tigers: "So you have chosen death."
Army of Tigers: "SO YOU'RE THE SUN!"
Starship Velociraptor... that is the sickest name for an album ever. And a cartoon show that I very much want to be a real thing now.
I second that!
It reminds me a lot of Ninja Sex Party: ridiculous/whimsical themes but awesome music and great singing.
Ninja Brian's appearance and the passing resemblance between the band members and TWRP certainly strengthen the comparison XD
@@feffy380 Well, if you're gonna be a rock band, why not name your band or album something so totally crazy and ridiculous? Jonathan Young's next album? Giant Robo-Turkeys from Planet 39 1/4th.
@@feffy380 We need all three. Jonathan Young, NSP, and TWRP. The holy Triforce. it would be the best collaboration ever. I mean, we kind of half got it with Ninja Brian being in one song, but that still doesn’t cover it.

I bought the CD to listen to on long hauls across the states, and my new truck doesn't have a CD player. Thankfully one of the best albums I've heard in YEARS is on CZcams. Been rocking out for about 1500 miles now.
Jonathan, you've created an entire album that is stuck in my head.

Ten-Thousand Light-Years is a daily *must-listen* for me. The romantic solitude vibes on that song is just.. unreal. This album as a whole warms my heart. I already know Im gonna be listening to these incredible songs every moment I can
That thing where music has always existed in your mind and every song sounds like "oh of course, that song" even when it's original. Every song is that song.
Evey song here is equally awesome, so equally that it's kinda hard to distinguish them. That might be the reason.
Not even exaggerating, this is my favorite album. Every song hits so hard. I want so much more of this.
7 months late on finding this album but i'm finally here and this is great ^_^
It feels like an indie band that i would have stumbled across and loved in like 2000,
The songs are super creative and self aware enough not to be cringe which just makes the music feel awesome while going in a different direction than other peoples, Keep up the Great work!
Also Starship Velociraptor (the ship) reminds me of an old animation called Starship Goldfish (was never finished but looked cool)
Bought and paid for! Your voice is just too good to ignore! Thank you or everything you share, covers to originals: they're amazing!
10,000 Lightyears has to be one of my new favorite songs. It conveys such a clear and compelling story: A broken down starship floating aimlessly in space, a depressed crew awaits their final end. A bottle is passed around and people start confessing their biggest regrets. A normally guarded pirate wonders what his life would have been like if he had swept that girl off her feet like he wanted to in that moment before duty or money or friends or nihilism lured him off to a life of adventure, ever looking over his shoulder at the specter of his would-be life, kicking himself for ever hesitating.
It's just beautiful and tragic and a good song.

Swarm tactics is a legitimate strategy in both war and gaming. But it does have its limits.
Let's not forget there's something we're missing here... If a billion tigers were able to organize and develop space travel then there must be a winning strategy here, but if it's physics where a planet inhabited by a billion tigers is consumed by the sun then that's just a bad day for all

Then I'll just leave a reply to show engagement, because the algorithm likes that and this album is freaking amazing
Incredible. Raising the bar
THANK U
Yo I actually adore this album.
This is kind of the perfect Workout Mix, while also being the perfect Vibe Mix all at the same time.
Damn, what a legend- CZcams Music Legend!
This album sounds great in the car. Love listening to it on road trips.
I work from home doing phone support but sometimes I am fortunate enough to work strictly on emails. I always put this album on when I'm working emails because I've noticed it is engaging enough that it drowns out the monotony without being too distracting and is such a fun album that the serotonin boost actually increases my productivity.
I hope Galactikraken makes a return in the future.
That "Storm the Castle" song is damn hype as hell. I wanna make a comic or game just because of the song alone
STORM THE CASTLE KILL THE KING!!!!!
GLORY OR GOLD IS INCREDIBLE
i agree. fav's gotta be man the cannons, gold and glory, jetpack race, swordfight, and, of course, starship velociraptor
edit: who am i kidding? all of them for me
What an amazing album opener!!
It's amazing how I went from not really caring that much about his covers, to being kind of a fan of Jonathan Young. I'll be looking forward to more original music from him.
I hope you know people are still enjoying this. My favorite is Jetpack Race and Storm the Castle, but every song is a banger.
This is some Gloryhammer level nonsense. It's awesome and I love it.
GloryHammer is the essentially like a result of a D&D campaign going off the rails and everyone just going with it. Which is why it is so glorious.
@@Nempo13 this is a space pirates campaign
Gloryhammer and Galactikraken crossover when? Just imagine the keyboard battles...
THE MADMAN PROVIDING THE ENTIRE STREAM
I don't usually enjoy original songs from cover artists, but this album is absolute fire.
That's sadly because most cover artists (NOT ALL) aren't really artistic enough to produce high quality OG content
If you like this album i recommend listening to one of his other songs "The Land of Broken Dreams", sounds a bit similar to this album but more power metal.
@@christopherbronson3275 playing music is pretty different from actually composing music, so it's not really that they are less artistic. It takes a different skill set. Same goes with improvisational music like jazz.
@@phillewis2630 fair point! I misspoke
@@phillewis2630 Oh, no, they're definitely less artistic.
Even years ago, you could see the difference in JoYo's version of a cover vs some of the other people on CZcams covering the same song. He's always been able to make his arrangements pop, be it a genre shift or something else to make them special, and when translating Anime to English his translations always just hit better.
This has got to be the best album I have ever seen! I usually don't listen to music (just because I don't really have any motivation to), but I think I have listened to this album so many times I'm addicted. Definetly going to buy the album and will recommend this to everyone I know!
Welcome to the Rabbit Hole!
I've been looking for this sound. It's like a mix of Iron Maiden and Atari games. I love it!
I had no idea that "Space Pirate Metal" was even a thing, let alone one of the best albums I've listened to in a while.
highly recommend Gloryhammer for more of this kind of thing, storm the castle in particular is very reminiscent of them
The text of Storm the castle is a bit too serious to be Gloryhammer. Musically there are definitly some similarities with some gloryhammer songs.
I listened to Army of Tigers and Storm The Castle on my TV, and now my cat wears an army bandana, and won't stop talking about the revolution
I haven't listened metal for 8 years until now. Your music reminds me that i still like this stuff and it's amazing. Thanks. Live long and prosper.🖖
This album IS FIRE!!! I want this on vinyl plzl!!!!
The true “i wrote all of this” album we have been waiting for. I hope this does well :)
"extinguish Heaven's light" is the most fucking raw and badass line there is.
And it's in a song about a man destroying the sun with an army of tigers.
Truly Jon is a master lyricist
Jonathan, every piece of music you make is a treasure. We love you no matter what you choose to do, never forget that!
Well shoot. Not only is this a banger, but it deserves more views then the algorithm could produce. I can just hear the joy and passion put into creating these beautiful creations that can only be described as art for my ears. MOAR we need MOAR!!!
