    It’s amazing how easily you do this. I’m just now learning and practicing on my couch with 185 lb rated wire and it’s giving me a hell of a time.

    This is the only video I have seen where you use the swivel to twist the wire instead of trying to align and twist the wire itself. Makes all the difference in the world!

    I have got the twist and the barrels sorted, I am not having great success breaking off the tag end, I am using 39lb afw, I'll keep practicing. I am chasing small bluefish for shark bait

    Oh ok, And you use crimps to attach the mono to the swivel that the wire is attached to as well as the swivel that goes to the main line?

  • @Taylormade0992
    @Taylormade0992 Před 12 lety +2

    when I attempt to twist the wire, all it does is spring back out. A little help?

  • @Taylormade0992

    oh okay, how many strands minimum must the wire be to tie the haywire?

  • @nigeltoudouze
    @nigeltoudouze Před 12 lety

    So you use the haywire twist attaching it to your hook and to your swivel? And then just attach your main line to the swivel?

      Trevor Belton Braided cable[wire] needs to be sleeved, BUT it wont kink as badly as plain stainless wire. It's Expensive too! I use Malin's coffee colored fishing wire. Capt Roy Allan

    I'm trying this with 3 feet of #15 AFW 240lb wire and a 15/0 Mustad circle hook (seems smaller than the typical 15/0 circle though) and it just isn't happening: the wire's much to stiff to handle it like you're doing in the video with supposedly even thicker (?!) wire. I looked for a haywire twist tool locally and online and the only economical ones (read: non-table units) are only good up to #12 wire. I'm just getting into LBS fishing with a older Penn 9500SS, 12 ft mh-action surf rod, and 500 yards of 50lb braid with 8 feet of 400lb mono to the wire, but anything above #12 wire seems like overkill to me if I'm just going to wade-out to waist-high level and cast (what? 50 yards??) from there. Or do I have it all wrong?? All I know is that my hands currently look and feel as if I walked a handstand a couple miles down I-10 in this hot, blistering July sun. I'm in Pensacola - lots of bulls and blacktips cruising the beaches around here - but from where I'm going to be fishing/casting, I don't think I'd be looking at anything above 5 or 6 feet in length. Or, again, do I have it all wrong? Any input would be appreciated.

    Great vid!!!! What is the purpose of the haywire twist why not not a simple wrapped eye?

    • @jeffsmith825
      @jeffsmith825 Před 5 lety

      Barrel wraps will slip under load if there is no haywire twist. The critical part of the haywire twist is having both pieces twisting around each other whereas barrel wraps are only twisting the tag end around the main piece of wire. Barrel wraps are really just locking the haywire twist in place. I usually will do 5-6 twists followed by just 3 or 4 barrel wraps but it's all preference.

    • @BlacktipH

      Ibnu Pasha Papadimitriou For single strand you need to use a haywire twist. For cable, you need to crimp and use sleeves.

      It's possible, but you will lose a lot of sharks. If a sharks teeth touch that mono under pressure, it's going to cut.
